School pupils are backing Corby's bid to become the UK's first Town of Culture in 2028 by sharing stories of where they live.

The town-wide initiative, where youngsters and residents write their tales on a postcard, was launched last week.

Corby is among a shortlist of 15 towns bidding for the title, which comes with a £3m prize.

Town council leader Simon Rielly said the area had "a great chance of success".

It is up against places including Great Yarmouth in Norfolk in the medium towns category.

Students from Tresham College and other sixth forms are due to design the official bid logo, while a social media campaign is being prepared.

Partners met on 13 August to discuss further ideas, including getting high-profile ambassadors linked to Corby to support the bid.

The final case needs to be presented by 30 November, ahead of a visit by judges in the new year.

"It was a really productive meeting and the work to make a strong bid for Corby is under way," Rielly said.

"There's a lot of exciting strands to this and I'm looking forward to the great creativity that will come back as a result. Corby has a great chance of success."

He added other opportunities for residents to get involved would be publicised soon.
