Vintage style returns for 1940s weekend

A 1940s weekend is returning to Lancashire for its 15th year, bringing wartime-themed entertainment to the county.

Visitors to Lytham can see live performances, including Winston Churchill re-enactments and 1940s music, but have been warned to avoid using barbecues or anything that might pose a fire risk.

Taking place on Saturday and Sunday, the event will also feature military vehicles, vintage traders, military charities, dancing and a resident 1940s DJ. There will also be BSL signing in the main marquee.

Fylde councillor Jayne Nixon, lead member for tourism, leisure and culture, said: "The weekend offers something special for everyone to enjoy completely free of charge."

Organisers said they have altered plans given the prolonged sunny weather and dry ground conditions and the government's emergency alert sent to mobile phones on Friday warning of a "very high risk of wildfires nationally".

The message asked residents, landowners and visitors to not undertake any activity that could cause a fire "including disposable barbecues, firepits, garden incinerators of fireworks".

The battle re-enactment will still go ahead but the ground-based pyrotechnics and explosions will not.

While the cannons will still fire changes have been made to the powder mix and angle of firing, organisers said.
