A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving after a woman was seriously injured in a three-car crash on a motorway.

A Mercedes van, a Volvo, and a Vauxhall Insignia collided on the M62's westbound carriageway near Rochdale at about 22:00 BST on Saturday, Greater Manchester Police said.

The force said the woman, in her 60s, was in a "serious condition" in hospital.

A 20-year-old man remains in police custody for questioning.

The road was closed between junctions 20 and 21 but has since reopened.

GMP is appealing for any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage of the crash to contact the force.
