A new community project designed to reduce loneliness and bring people together has been launched in Peterborough.

Seeds of Friendship is being run by the Friends of Woodston Library throughout October, encouraging people of all ages to take part in creative workshops and share messages of hope.

Participants are invited to make seed packets and include uplifting messages, which will then be given to neighbours, friends, or anyone who may need a boost.

Jenny Storey, from Friends of Woodston Library, said: "We are excited to launch the project. The seeds will be passed around the community and then be sown in the area, which we hope will show the strength of the community."

Storey said everyone was welcome to get involved, regardless of age or experience, and encouraged residents to share the seeds with people who could benefit from a gesture of friendship.

A variety of flower seeds are being used as part of the scheme, to encourage wildflowers to grow across the area, she added.

People can take part by attending workshops during October at Woodston Library on Orchard Street.
