Court date for two men charged with murder of cyclist

Two men charged with murder after the death of a 27-year-old cyclist in Leicester will appear at crown court.

George Glover was punched as he rode along Narborough Road, close to the junction with Noel Street, at about 06:30 BST on Monday, and died in hospital on Thursday, Leicestershire Police said.

Chae Smith, 31, and 24-year-old Joshua Cook, both of no fixed address, have been charged with murder and one count of robbery, said the force.

After appearing at Leicester Magistrates' Court on Monday, they were further remanded in custody and will appear at Leicester Crown Court on 12 October.

Smith has also been charged with possession of a bladed article, police said.

A third person - Louise O'Connor - has been accused of one count of robbery, and the 39-year-old, of Noel Street, was also remanded in custody ahead of the October crown court date.

In a tribute released by police on Friday, Glover's family said: "George was a much-loved son and big brother to his three siblings. His loss is already felt so deeply."

They described him as "'loving and loyal with a good sense of humour".
