Police have appealed for information after a man was stabbed at a railway station in East Sussex.

The man, in his 40s, was stabbed at Portslade railway station shortly before 19.20 BST on Thursday.

He was reportedly injured during an altercation outside the station involving four men and two women.

The victim was treated for a single stab wound at hospital and is in a stable condition.

The six people involved in the altercation were believed to be in their late teens or early 20s, Sussex Police said.

Det Insp Jennifer Pietersen said: "This incident will have understandably caused concern for local residents.

"Knife crime has no place in our communities, and we continue to work at pace to establish the full circumstances of what happened and identify those involved."

Anyone who saw the incident, has relevant CCTV or any other information is asked to contact Sussex Police.
