Councillors say huge cracks on Lavinia Walk in Swindon have been an issue for many years

Repairs are due to start on "hazardous" paths which have become a "real concern" for a community, councillors said.

Photos show huge cracks running down Lavinia Walk in Priory Vale, Swindon which have been an issue for "three or four years," said Swindon Borough councillor Vinay Manro, who represents Priory Vale.

"The cracking around Lavinia Walk is among the worst we have seen locally and has continued to deteriorate," Cllr Leanne Stevenson said.

Work to repair the road and surrounding paths is due to start on Monday and is expected to take between two and three weeks.

Councillors say the road is a particular issue for people with mobility issues

"The extensive cracking has become a real concern, particularly for anyone using a wheelchair, mobility aid or pushchair, as well as residents walking through the area every day," Manro said.

The work will cover both stretches of Lavinia Walk, and the stretch that goes from Dydale up to Queen Elizabeth Drive, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

It comes after the council said the issue had been repeatedly raised by residents with temporary repairs failing to solve the problems.

Stevenson said the routes are important for families across Taw Hill including school runs and everyday journeys.

"The resurfacing around Lavinia Walk will help keep important walking routes safe for families," she added.
