Call for 30mph limits in four villages on A15

A Lincolnshire MP is calling for a 30mph speed limit to be introduced in four villages along the A15.

Alicia Kearns, who represents Rutland and Stamford, said Langtoft, Thurlby, Northorpe and Baston are among the few areas on the route without lower speed limits already in place.

Kearns said: "Our communities deserve to walk, cycle, cross and live alongside the A15 without feeling unsafe."

Lincolnshire County Council said anyone who wants to request a speed limit change should contact their local county councillor.

After gaining the backing of parish councils, Kearns wrote to the county council calling for 30mph speed limits in all four villages, arguing they were not treated the same as other communities along the A15.

"People tell me that they don't feel safe living in such close proximity to the A15. It cuts through the villages. Walking around, I feel the exact same way," she said.

"We all know that drivers do their best to drive safely but the reality is, if there is an accident, driving at a slower speed limit lessens the chance of someone losing their life."

Kearns added: "I look forward to the council's response, hope common sense will prevail, and will keep pushing until our communities along the A15 receive the equity of safety we deserve."

In response to Kearns' letter, Sean Matthews, leader of Lincolnshire County Council, said: "Anyone who thinks a speed limit needs to be reviewed can go to their local county councillor and raise the issue.

"From there the appropriate process of review, plan and scrutiny will be put in place with that desired reduction delivered where possible.

"We will always listen to concerns about the roads that are raised with us."
