Man found stabbed after car crash 'brought happiness to everyone'

A 20-year-old man who was found stabbed when emergency services were called to a car crash has been described as a "wonderful son, loving brother and doting uncle" by his family.

Jamie Evans's red Ford Fiesta and a grey Audi crashed in Orme Road, a residential street in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire, just after 17:00 BST on Friday.

Passers-by tried to help him until paramedics arrived but he died from a single stab wound after being taken to hospital.

Staffordshire Police said three men had been arrested - two on suspicion of murder and a third on conspiracy to murder.

His family, who are being supported by specially trained officers, said Jamie, from Stone, had a "warmth, kindness and great sense of humour" that brought "happiness to everyone around him".

"Jamie was so passionate about cricket and fitness, enjoying every opportunity to be active, challenge himself and spend time doing the things he loved.

"These passions reflected his determination, energy and zest for life."

They added that he would be "deeply loved, profoundly missed and never forgotten", and thanked members of the public who went to his aid and tried to help him.

Staffordshire Police confirmed earlier it is understood the victim suffered the stab wound before the crash.

The men being held on suspicion of murder are aged 20 and 22 and from the Newcastle-under-Lyme area. They remain in custody after Staffordshire Police was granted extra time to question them.

The third man, 19 and also from the Newcastle-under-Lyme area, was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder and also remains in custody.

An online portal has been created for people to submit information.

Norton-in-Hales Cricket Club also paid tribute, saying on social media that it was "deeply saddened".

It said he spent much of his childhood watching his father play cricket, before starting his cricket in the 2nd XI, alongside his dad, before making his first XI debut at just 14.

"Even at such a young age, Jamie's talent was clear for all to see," it said.

"His career continued to go from strength to strength, including scoring his first 1st XI century at just 16 years old."

It described him as "an exceptionally talented cricketer", "lovely lad" and "great friend".

"Rest in peace, Jamie. You will never be forgotten."
