Eight people have been arrested after police were called to a fight involving a group of men with weapons.

Leicestershire Police said armed officers were deployed to Winstanley Drive, in Braunstone, just after 17:00 BST on Thursday "in the interest of public and police safety".

No serious injuries were reported and the men - three aged 18, two aged 23, two aged 20 and one aged 21 - were arrested on suspicion of affray.

The force is appealing for anyone with information or footage to come forward.

The 18-year-olds were also arrested on suspicion of possession of cannabis with intent to supply, with one of them also being detained on suspicion of crack cocaine with intent to supply.

Reassurance patrols

All eight have been released on bail while inquiries continue, police added.

Det Insp Paul Hawkins, from the city's criminal investigation department, said: "Our investigation to establish the circumstances and motive of this incident is continuing and I'm appealing for anyone who can help to get in touch.

"I'm particularly keen to speak to any witnesses or anyone who has footage on a dashcam, doorbell or CCTV camera."

Insp Ryan Hayes, from the West Leicester neighbourhood policing area, added reassurance patrols had since been taking place in the area.
