Shop fire started accidentally, investigation finds
GoogleA fire which severely damaged a shop in Derby was started accidentally, an investigation has found.
Crews from Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to Cardigan Street in Chaddesden at about 09:15 BST on Monday.
Firefighters from Alfreton, Ascot Drive, Kingsway, and Nottingham Road stations arrived to find a well-developed fire in the roof space, a spokesperson said.
A joint police and fire investigation has since found the fire was caused by the "inappropriate use of electrics in the roof space".
Fire officers said crews tackling the blaze were supported by an aerial ladder platform and breathing apparatus was used to contain the incident.
During the fire, the roof of the building became unstable, forcing crews to leave the property to continue firefighting operations from outside the building.
Crews left the scene at 19:22 BST after the blaze was fully extinguished.
