A County Armagh man has been given a life sentence for murdering a 23-year-old nursing student.

Odhrán Kelly's body was found beside a burning car in Maple Court in Lurgan in December 2023.

Gary Damien Scullion, 34, was one of five people arrested and charged in the aftermath of the murder.

The length of time Scullion will spend in prison will be determined at a later date.

Scullion, who is from Edward Street in Lurgan, had appeared at Belfast Crown Court in November 2024, where he denied the charge of murdering Kelly.

On Tuesday, Scullion, who was flanked by two prison staff in the dock, confirmed his identity to a court clerk.

As the deceased's family sat in the public gallery, Scullion was then re-arraigned on a charge of murder.

Asked how he now pleaded, Scullion replied "guilty".

Following this, Mr Justice Fowler said that in light of the plea to murder there was only one sentence that could be imposed "and that is one of life imprisonment".
