Two people have been taken to hospital following a crash involving a vehicle that had previously been pursued by police.

Leicestershire Police said in Leicester city centre on Wednesday, officers came across a VW Passat, which subsequently made off. The force said a pursuit was authorised as the vehicle travelled across the city.

Pursuing officers lost sight of the vehicle, but it was found a short time later at 11:25 GMT, having been involved in a crash with an Audi A5 in Red Hill Way.

Police said two people inside the Passat fled the scene and two in the Audi were taken to hospital as a precaution.

The road was closed as emergency services responded to the crash, but has since reopened and police inquiries continue.
