    Substitution time for Salford.

Ben Woodburn and the booked Abraham Odoh are off.

On in their place are Jorge Grant and Adebola Oluwo.

  2. 'Salford can now exploit space'published at 18:54 BST 26 September

    Oldham 1-3 Salford

    Sue Smith
Former England forward on Sky Sports

It is such good play from Salford. That is what they have got - real quality in the final third.

The keeper has to do better, he gets a hand to it, but the move and build-up play from Salford...take nothing away from it.

The trouble for Oldham now is that when they commit men forward now, Salford will have the space which they can exploit.

  3. CLOSE!published at 61 mins

    Oldham 1-3 Salford

Oldham try something inventive and again it's Calum Kavanagh whose strike is deflected wide of the near post for another corner to the home side.

The resulting corner is dealt with comfortably by Salford.

  4. goal

GOAL: Oldham 1-3 Salfordpublished at 18:49 BST 26 September

    Brendan Wiredu (57 mins)

Salford make Oldham pay for their missed opportunities.

It's a flowing move from the Ammies, they carve through Oldham here.

And crashing into the box is former Plymouth midfielder Brendan Wiredu who takes a good touch before striking right-footed into the bottom corner.

Mat Hudson in the Oldham goal might be disappointed when he sees this one back. He gets his hands to it but cannot keep it out.

  5. 'Another chance missed'published at 18:48 BST 26 September

    Oldham 1-2 Salford

    Sue Smith
Former England forward on Sky Sports

You can see what they are trying to do, Oldham.

They are trying to use that space in front of the wing-backs, the space in the channels and the players in the middle of the park are certainly capable of finding those passes.

It's another chance missed. They are creating the chances, which is a positive, but they have to be getting more on target.

We wondered how long this intensity was going to continue. We knew it would be high energy and big challenges, but in minute 55 there is still a real tempo to the game, which is great.

  6. CLOSE!published at 54 mins

    Oldham 1-2 Salford

A great ball into the box somehow evades everyone in blue.

Oldham's Jamie Robson receives a nice one-two and his ball into the box cannot be turned home despite the efforts of Mike Fondop and Gus Scott-Morriss at the back stick.

  7. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 53 mins

    Oldham 1-2 Salford

Calum Kavanagh tries to get past Dan Scarr and goes down inside the box with Scarr holding his shirt but it looks like it was a little bit of six of one, half a dozen of the other, on this occasion.

  8. Postpublished at 52 mins

    Oldham 1-2 Salford

Calum Kavanagh is playing with real confidence today for Oldham.

He is involved in pretty much everything and is always a goal threat.

  9. Postpublished at 49 mins

    Oldham 1-2 Salford

This game has continued just where it left off before half-time.

Kelly N'Mai gets down the right but his effort is high and wide.

  10. CLOSE!published at 47 mins

    Oldham 1-2 Salford

This would have been an outstanding goal.

Calum Kavanagh, still confident from his goal in the first half, is so close to equalising here and it would have been really special.

He's picked out by a floated ball from Oliver Norburn and on the swivel, he hits a first-time volley which goes just wide of the far post.

Think Marco Van Basten in 1988.

Kavanagh then has another strike from range which is deflected over for a corner.

  11. KICK-OFFpublished at 46 mins

    Oldham 1-2 Salford

The second half has just got under way.

Oldham have made a change at the break. Noah Chilvers has been replaced by the attack-minded Kane Drummond.

  12. 'The ref has to take responsibility'published at 18:37 BST 26 September

    Oldham 1-2 Salford

    Luke Chambers
Former Premier League defender on Sky Sports

The referee has to take responsibility because it is his mistake, but he has got them back on, finished the half and, thankfully for Salford, they didn't concede a goal in that period.

Isaac Searle certainly had a lot on his plate over that 45+ minutes...

    ● Rochdale's Aden Flint has overtaken Peter Clarke (52) as the top scoring defender in the EFL since the 2004-05 rebrand, netting his 53rd goal today against Fleetwood Town (excluding play-offs).

    ● Cheltenham’s Charlie McCann has scored in six of his eight appearances in League Two this season, with only Reading’s Jack Marriott (8) scoring more goals than McCann (7) across England’s top four tiers this season.

    ● Crewe Alexandra (W2 D6) have avoided defeat across their first eight league games of an EFL campaign for the third time in the club’s history and for the first time since 1953-54. However, Crewe failed to land a single shot on target in a league game for the first time since February 2026 against Fleetwood.

    ● Bristol Rovers have won each of their last 11 home league games, setting a new club record in the EFL.

    ● York City’s Harry Boyes provided two assists against Gillingham today, reaching six assists in League Two this season – no EFL player has more in 2026-27 (also six for Bristol City’s Rio Cardines).

Some facts and figures from our friends at Opta around the action today in the third tier.

    ● Burton Albion have won two of their four away games in League One this season (L2), more victories than the Brewers managed across their final 15 away league matches in the 2025-26 campaign (W1 D7 L7).

    ● Cambridge United have conceded first in each of their last four league games, but haven’t lost any of them (W1 D3) – only Notts County (7) have gained more points from losing positions in League One this term than The U’s (6).

    ● Stockport County were 1-0 winners against managerless Peterborough United today – the Hatters have won the joint-most home games in League One in 2026 (10) while the Posh have lost the most away games (11).

    ● Jayden Stockley has been involved in all four of AFC Wimbledon’s away goals in League One this season (3 goals, 1 assist); today’s opener against Cambridge United means he has scored in five consecutive away starts in the Football League for the first time (3 for AFC Wimbledon, 2 for Port Vale).

    ● Danny Ings netted on his Wycombe Wanderers debut today against Reading, netting his first goal in League One since May 2011 for Bournemouth against Huddersfield Town, 15 years and 131 days ago.

  16. HALF-TIMEpublished at 18:22 BST 26 September

    Oldham 1-2 Salford

    Well that was fun.

An enthralling first-half of local derby football has absolutely flown by.

Salford broke the deadlock inside the opening five minutes when Luke Molyneux's deft ball into the box evaded everyone and ended up in the far corner.

Kelly N'Mai's exquisite chip doubled the Ammies lead before Calum Kavanagh halved Oldham's deficit just over a minute afterwards.

It's had chances, bookings, disallowed goals, and even the referee blowing for half-time.... twice.

I'm off to listen to some whale music for a few minutes.

  17. CLOSE!published at 45+4 mins

    Oldham 1-2 Salford

Back on to the field, Oldham win a corner.

The ball is sent in and only cleared as far as Oliver Norburn who fires over with a half-volley on the edge of the box.

    Decent strike.

  18. Postpublished at 45 + 3 mins

    Oldham 1-2 Salford

    What is going on here?

The fourth official signalled for four minutes of additional time but the referee blew up for half-time at over two and a half minutes.

Most of the players left the pitch - and there were even volunteers with children's sized goals out for the half-time entertainment - but now referee Isaac Searle has sent everyone back on to the pitch, admitting his time-keeping error.

Just when you think you've seen everything in this sport...

  19. CLOSE!published at 45+1 mins

    Oldham 1-2 Salford

Another good chance, this time for Salford.

There's a bit of grappling in the box and the ball misses everyone in the centre - reaching Taylor Allen at the back post but he shanks his effort wide.

  20. INJURY TIMEpublished at 18:16 BST 26 September

    Oldham 1-2 Salford

There will be four minutes of additional time at the end of the first half.
