Shrewsbury Town midfielder Jack Price will be out for "the foreseeable future" after suffering a hamstring injury.

Salop head coach Gavin Cowan confirmed the 33-year-old will miss a number of weeks after a scan this week showed the extent of problem.

Cowan said Price, who returned for a second spell at his hometown club this summer, initially suffered the injury during pre-season.

"Jack's had quite a bad one on his hamstring and we're waiting on timescales but he'll be out for the foreseeable future," Cowan told BBC Radio Shropshire.

"He's absolutely devastated because he's had such a strong pre-season and the lads were cooing over him about how we can utilise him this season and what he's going to do for us.

"No-one's more disappointed than me and Jack, but we have to get round him now. It's nothing to do with his old injury, it's completely separate.

"It's just an unfortunate one that's come about in a really strange part in his hamstring, but when the time comes he'll be a massive asset to us."

Cowan added that although Price's main focus will be to regain his fitness as quickly as possible, the former Wolves player will likely have a part to play off the field helping guide the club's younger players while he recovers.

"I managed the group collectively and individually, but I've got [assistant head coach] Dave Edwards and if the midfielders need a tip, there's a good one there," Cowan said.

"Jack and Boyley [Will Boyle] can manage people as well, but Jack's not here to be a cheerleader; he wants to play every week.

"But with an injury we look at how he can affect the group - he's extremely humble, has played at a high level and can offer something. I think he will do that."

Teenage midfielder Will Gray has signed a new three-year deal with Shrewsbury Town.

It is the 17-year-old's first professional contract, having made his League Two debut towards the end of last season.

He featured in the squad 19 times during the 2025-26 campaign, starting four games and appearing as a substitute twice in the last nine matches of the season.

Salop boss Gavin Cowan told the club website, external that Gray's contract is proof that "if you're good enough, you're old enough" and thanked the chairman Roland Wycherley and chief executive Liam Dooley for their backing on the deal.
