In case you were wondering about the situation at the top of Division One, Somerset's win at Leicester has taken their points total to 189, five ahead of Warwickshire, who won at Glamorgan yesterday.

Should Nottinghamshire beat Hampshire, they would earn 22 points and move above Warwickshire on 185. Defeat, though, would leave them on 169.

  3. wicket

WICKETpublished at 17:07 BST 10 September

    Lomror b Hunt 58 - Sussex 393 v Surrey 250-6

Sean Hunt has the new ball from the Sea End.

He got Dom Sibley and Rory Burns out earlier today.

Bowled him! Mahipal Lomror goes for the big drive and gets an inside edge into his middle stump, knocking it out of the ground.

Tom Lawes is in at eight for Surrey.

  4. Close of play at Derbypublished at 17:06 BST 10 September

    Kent 3-0 v Derbys (Target: 434)

That is, indeed, regrettably, that for the day at Derby.

The rain has proven too much, coupled with the poor light, and it leaves us with a single full day ahead of us tomorrow - Kent need 431 runs for victory and Derbyshire require ten wickets.

  5. Postpublished at 17:04 BST 10 September

    Sussex 393 v Surrey 250-5

Adam Thomas drives and gets a thick inside edge to James Coles at mid-wicket. We have a bit of sunlight over the field with darker clouds around the perimeter.

    Could be a short spell.

Thomas is across the line again and the ball runs out into the gully off his thigh pad.

Maiden over. That last ball kept a bit low as Thomas blocked into the off side.

  6. Bad light stops play at Trent Bridgepublished at 17:00 BST 10 September

    Hants 61-6 v Notts - target 178

Fraser Sheat is four balls into his latest over but the umpires decide the light isn't good enough for play to continue.

There are another 24 scheduled after this one but that looks very optimistic.

Ben Mayes is 21 not out and Scott Currie has 13.

  7. Close of play at Old Traffordpublished at 17:00 BST 10 September

    Lancashire 134 & 120-6 v Glos 212 & 169

As the clock ticks to five o'clock, we have the expected news.

Pools of water are forming on the covers, the rain is still coming down and we will hope to resume again tomorrow.

Remember, Lancashire need 128 more runs to win and Gloucestershire need four wickets.

  8. new ball

New ball taken at Hovepublished at 17:00 BST 10 September

    Sussex 393 v Surrey 250-5

Now then - Jaydev Unadkat is coming on and the new ball has been taken in the 85th over.

  9. Postpublished at 16:58 BST 10 September

    Sussex 393 v Surrey 250-5

Adam Thomas is again back and across, trying to run Jack Carson to deep third. Missed.

He connects with a drive down the ground for one to take Surrey to 250 and a batting point in the 84th over.

  10. Postpublished at 16:56 BST 10 September

    Sussex 393 v Surrey 249-5

Lomror lets the last ball of the Jack Carson over go outside off. There's still some spin and bounce there so it feels like a fair shout not to take the new ball at this stage.

Adam Thomas is back and across to Jack Leaning to push a single to long on.

Lomror is playing a little more conservatively this time with a careful push into the on side and then a neat block into the off side.

  11. 50 runs

50 up for Hantspublished at 16:53 BST 10 September

    Hants 50-6 v Notts (target 178)

Given the situation, Ben Mayes is looking remarkably confident.

He's hit four boundaries so far and flicks Tom Giles uppishly for a single as the total reaches 50.

  12. Lomror escapes againpublished at 16:52 BST 10 September

    Sussex 393 v Surrey 248-5

Sussex have not taken the new ball and here comes Jack Carson.

Mahipal Lomror is down the pitch, swings, misses - and John Simpson of all people misses a stumping behind the sticks.

A charmed life indeed for Lomror.

  13. 6 runs

Lomror six and nearly out!published at 16:51 BST 10 September

    Sussex 393 v Surrey 248-5

Here comes Jack Leaning. There goes Jack Leaning!

Short, Mahipal Lomror is right back to hook high over backward square for six. That's out of here. New balls please.

A single apiece for Lomror and Thomas.

Edged by Lomror and dropped by Tom Haines at slip.

    Lomror reprieved on 57.

  14. 50 runs

50 for Mahipal Lomrorpublished at 16:46 BST 10 September

    Sussex 393 v Surrey 239-5

Mahipal Lomror is forward to drive Jack Carson and the ball is stopped at mid off.

He gets the next one away, down the track and just over Jack Leaning's head for four. He's on 49.

A shorter ball is dabbed to point. No run and he's stuck on 49.

He drives again, up in the air and the ball lands safely in deep cover with three fielders in pursuit.

Not his best shot in an otherwise good innings but he'll get his 50 off 105 with six fours and a six.

His first 50 for Surrey in his third game for the club this season.

  15. Postpublished at 16:42 BST 10 September

    Sussex 393 v Surrey 234-5

James Coles is out of the attack and Jack leaning comes in to bowl a bit of off spin.

He tosses it up to Mahipal Lomror - who works the ball away for one to move to 44 not out.

    Adam Thomas cuts for one.

One more for Lomror to backward point. He's on 45.

  16. rain stops play

Rain at Derbypublished at 16:40 BST 10 September

    Kent 3-0 v Derbys (Target: 434)

We have been off because of bad light at the County Ground but, in the meantime, it has begun to rain and the covers are now being hauled over the middle.

It looks quite ominous at the moment and there is not a whole lot of certainty we will be back out again this evening.

  17. NORTHANTS BEAT WORCS BY SIX WICKETSpublished at 16:39 BST 10 September
    Breaking

    Worcestershire 200 & 182 v Northamptonshire 289 & 96-4

George Bartlett strokes Brett D'Oliveira through the covers for four and Northants win to move up to second in Division Two.

They take 20 points away from New Road, putting them five ahead of Kent, who have so far only taken three bonus points in their game at Derby.

D'Oliveira's 64 was the only noteworthy score in Worcestershire's second innings but he became one of four victims for Yuzi Chahal.

Set 94 to win, Northants slumped from 49-0 to 53-3, but Saif Zaib (24) and Bartlett - who finishes on 19 not out - added 37 to carry them to the brink of victory before Zaib hold out in the deep.

Mahipal Lomror is forward to block Jack Carson - who is bowling with two close catchers plus the keeper.

The off spinner gets one to turn and fizz past the left-hander outside the off stump. Over bowled. Two left before the new ball is due.

  19. Postpublished at 16:38 BST 10 September

    Hants 34-6 v Notts - target 178

Double change by Notts, with Fraser Sheat and Tom Giles coming into the attack.

Olly Stone took 3-15 and Dillon Pennington 3-18 in their seven-over spells with the new ball.

  20. Postpublished at 16:37 BST 10 September

    Sussex 393 v Surrey 229-5

The floodlights are on at Hove.

Width from James Coles and Mahipal Lomror flashes the ball through backward point for four.

Four more runs to Mahipal, pulling a marginally dragged down ball square.
