Notable quote from manager Russell Martin in his matchday programme notes.

Addressing the fans he says "Our job is to give you a team that runs for you, fights for each other and plays in a way you can be proud of.”

It’s fair to say Leicester supporters didn’t see enough of this behaviour last season.

I made my way through a very busy fan zone full of laughter and smiles.

Beaming sunshine, the pitch looks lush. The Burton fans on my train journey here made a lot of noise. From their perspective, this is the perfect setting to cause an upset.

Rochdale went through so much drama last season with that game against York and then that play-off final against Boreham Wood they will be hoping for some good old fashioned normality and getting a few early wins on the board to try and get a foothold in League Two.

Crawley need to be better disciplined because getting two sent off every week will lead to only one thing, a season of struggles.

Colin Kazim Richards team will look at today and target three points against a team potentially battling with them to keep their Football League status.

Rotherham United and York City have been waiting 13 years for this day - and it is these kinds of games that remind us why we love football so much.

The Millers and Minstermen were separated by two divisions last season, but relegation from League One for Rotherham and promotion from the National League for York means they meet in the middle at long last.

It was a chastening welcome to life in the fourth tier for Rotherham on opening day, going down 2-1 at Cheltenham Town.

York, meanwhile, carried on where they left off in 2025-26 with an excellent 3-2 win over promotion favourites Bristol Rovers in their first EFL game for 10 years, brushing off the surprise departure of former manager Stuart Maynard with new boss Scott Lindsey registering a victory in his first league game.

  12. Bromley seeking respect in League Onepublished at 14:50 BST 22 August

Bromley got their League One campaign off to a flying start with a one nil win at Barnsley

Bromley's introduction to League One couldn't have gone much better.

A 1-0 win over Barnsley sees their record yet unblemished in the third tier but it'll be their home crowd they will want to please.

Their first opponents on home soil will be against a familiar foe though in fellow promoted side Cambridge and the Ravens failed to win either of their meetings last season.

But for Bromley, the opponent doesn't matter this season. It's building up their own reputation that does.

"I don't want to show any team's respect," boss Andy Woodman said.

"I want us to go out and do our stuff and before long, people will hopefully start showing us a bit of respect."

  13. 'Football fairytales do exist'published at 14:49 BST 22 August

    Bromley v Cambridge (15:00 BST)

    Charlotte Richardson
    Final Score reporter

Football fairytales do still exist. Just ask Bromley fans.

A few years ago, Andy Woodman’s team were kicking off the season against Eastleigh in the National League. Two promotions in three years, now the chance to compete week in, week out in the third tier.

This is the highest The Ravens have ever flown as they host a familiar foe, a fellow promotion outfit, Cambridge United.

Neil Harris brought his club back to this level at the first time of asking following their relegation. Two places and five points separated these teams last season.

A competitive clash at the Copperjax Community Stadium awaits.

  14. Which set of Robins will be rocking?published at 14:46 BST 22 August

    Swindon v Cheltenham (15:00 BST)

Second game of the season and we're straight into a West Country derby. Just how we like it.

Swindon go into today's clash after getting their League Two campaign under way with a point at Northampton after a drab 0-0. They'll want to improve things up top today having not registering a shot on target against the Cobblers.

Ian Holloway captured the loan signing of teenage midfielder Anthony Munda from Newcastle in the week for his first spell in senior football. Will we see him in the squad?

Cheltenham will be buoyed heading to the County Ground after kicking their season off with a 2-1 win over Rotherham.

A debut strike from Leicester loanee Jake Evans sealed that victory for Steve Cotterill's side and, with the 18-year-old winger celebrating his birthday yesterday, it could well be a dream couple of weeks if he makes an impact again today.

The last time these two sides met in the league it was Swindon who picked up a 2-0 win in December last year and will be looking for successive victories in this fixture for the very first time.

Leicester players celebrate their goal in the 1-1 draw at Notts CountyImage source, Shutterstock

Two years ago, it was Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League in their first home game of the season for Leicester City. This afternoon, it is Burton Albion in League One at the King Power Stadium.

And if anyone thought the Foxes were nailed on for an easy ride back to the Championship, last weekend's tough opening day draw at newly-promoted Notts County served as a timely reminder that it won't be so simple.

This EFL grind is tough and Russell Martin's side let a lead slip to draw 1-1 at Meadow Lane - and such is the nature of the beast at clubs the size of Leicester, anything but victory today might see pressure start to build even at this very early stage.

As for the Brewers, they have been clinging on to League One status for the past two seasons and will really hope to avoid flirting with danger once more.

Gary Bowyer's men also started the campaign with a 1-1 draw, suffering a late hammer blow at home to Stevenage having led 1-0.

    FT: Luton 2-2 Notts County

    Adam Hassell
    BBC Radio Nottingham commentator

That's full-time. Another point for Notts - they've played the two title favourites in their opening games and haven't lost to either of them

Luton came at them for final quarter but they were resilient enough to hold on. Over the course of the 90 minutes, you'd say a draw is probably a fair result.

  19. FULL-TIMEpublished at 14:35 BST 22 August

    Luton 2-2 Notts County

A pulsating encounter finally comes to an end and it's honours even.

There are a few boos to greet the whistle from the home support, presumably feeling they should've had a penalty for handball by County's Ishe Samuels-Smith.

After a lengthy stoppage for an injury to Luton's Jordan Clark, Nahki Wells put the home side ahead, but they were quickly pegged back by Callum Roberts.

Then in the second half, Ollie Cooper slotted the Magpies in front, but similarly, they were then immediately reeled back in by Luton through Callum Marshall's first goal for his new club.

Great game, probably a fair result and you'd imagine the visitors will be the more pleased of the two sides.
