In the days pre DRS, David Bedingham might have got away with it. Not these days.

    Big wicket.

Yuzvendra Chahal floats one up and Bedingham gets a big old stride in. It lands very close to the line of leg stump and just straightens.

No bat. All shin. Shouts everywhere.

    Finger up.

  4. Tea at Chelmsfordpublished at 15:46 BST 4 September

    Essex 94-3 Target 329

There are 235 more runs needed for Essex to get the win but first a session to negotiate which will be no easy task on a pitch that is offering something to spin.

Charlie Allison (18) and Matt Critchley (3) will need to get the home side a significant amount of the way there if they are to pull off an unlikely victory.

  5. Tea at Bristolpublished at 15:44 BST 4 September

    Glos 237 & 48-1 v Derbyshire 278 - Glos lead by seven runs

Shoaib Bashir took the wicket of Cam Bancroft early on but since then Joe Phillips and Ollie Price have moved Glos on to 48-1 and put the home side's noses back in front.

  6. Tea at Trent Bridgepublished at 15:41 BST 4 September

    Notts 451-8 dec v Leics 159-3

Half-centuries for Rehan Ahmed (not that surprising) and Josh Hull (a little surprising) have been the highlights of a Foxes fightback.

Hull has gone on to 59 not out since reaching a maiden 50 in first class cricket - he came in as a nightwatchman yesterday and is still going strong.

Notts would have started this morning when Olly Stone and Dillon Pennington were racing in thinking if they can take a few early scalps the follow-on might not be too far away but they have only taken one wicket all day - that of Ahmed for 54.

Leics are still way behind in terms of runs but are doing a great job in frustrating Notts.

  7. wicket

WICKET - and tea at Canterburypublished at 15:40 BST 4 September

    Hasan Mahmud run out 6 (Kent 238 & 358 v Worcestershire 217)

Not sure how to describe this one.

Hasan Mahmud pulls Adam Finch down to long leg and he and Chris Benjamin trot through for an easy single.

    Job done.

    Well, no.

The throw is not great. Henry Cullen misses it and the batters decide to run the overthrow.

Beyers Swanepoel's hurl from the other side of the ground is much better. Cullen nips the bails off and Mahmud is short by a whisker.

    Dear. Oh. Dear.

Kent are all out. But, no real worries. Worcestershire need 380 to win.

  8. Postpublished at 15:36 BST 4 September

    Lancs 70-3 Target 297

No hat-trick for Naavya Sharma as Rocky Flintoff keeps out a decent effort, pushing the ball towards mid on.

  9. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:36 BST 4 September

    Quinn b Swanepoel 1 (Kent 238 & 357-9 v Worcestershire 217)

Off stump looking for a 10.0 for artistic impression.

Matt Quinn aims the heave-ho at Beyers Swanepoel. He misses. The ball hits. Stump is out of here.

  10. Parrot not deceasedpublished at 15:34 BST 4 September

    Mark Church
    BBC Radio London commentator

"You can tell there's a bit of tension now.

Nobody is moving in the seats, apart from the parrot (spectator in fancy dress)."

  11. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:31 BST 4 September

    Harris c Helm b Sharma 0 (Lancs 64-3 Target 297)

Make that three in eight balls as Naavya Sharma strikes again.

Sharma has two in two and will come back for a hat-trick attemped at the end of Ryan Higgins's over.

He gets a good ball to rise at Marcus Harris and leave him off the pitch and Tom Helm takes a very good catch despite the distraction of having Harry Duke dive across him at first slip.

    Lancs are wobbling.

  12. Surrey getting closerpublished at 15:31 BST 4 September

    Surrey 144-7 v Yorks - target 185

Josh Blake drives George Hill for four and Surrey are now just 41 runs away.

Blake has been at the crease for three hours now and it's slow going for Surrey but the tension is building.

  13. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:30 BST 4 September

    Singh c Robson b Sharma 4 (Lancs 64-2 Target 297)

Harry Singh waits around for the umpires to confer on this after Sam Robson takes the ball low at second slip.

But the pair are happy the opener got his fingers under the ball (replays suggest he did) and the Lancs man is on his way.

That is two wickets in seven balls as the Lancs effort crumbles.

  14. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:27 BST 4 September

    Rhodes run out 27 (Northants 263 v Durham 205 & 123-2)

Couldn't be more of a gift if it came out of Santa's sack.

Will Rhodes goes back and cuts at Nathan McSweeney. It's gone behind square so, technically it's Alex Lees at the other end whose call it is.

But both batters start running and then stop in that classic 'yes-no-hang-on-there's-never-a-run-there-oh-no-sorry' style.

The throw from Calvin Harrison is over the bails and Lewis McManus does the rest. Rhodes is on the floor. Short.

  15. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:26 BST 4 September

    Albert c Barnard b Suthar 27 (Hants 115 & 105-4 Warks 398)

Manav Suthar gets his first of the second innings.

Toby Albert, who survived a hundred deliveries, tries to defend against the spinner and edges low to slip into the hands of Ed Barnard.

  16. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:26 BST 4 September

    Westley c Simpson b Carson 33 (Essex 79-3 Target 329)

Tom Westley throws his head back in frustration after clipping a reverse sweep through to John Simpson.

Good take behind the stumps with zero reaction time and a big wicket for Sussex.

  17. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:24 BST 4 September

    Jennings c Geddes b Higgins 38 (Lancs 57-1 Target 297)

Ben Geddes makes amends for his drop earlier by trotting in to take a catch at short leg after Keaton Jennings pops up a bat pad off Ryan Higgins.

50 for Josh Hullpublished at 15:22 BST 4 September

    Notts 451-8 dec v Leics 112-3

    Josh HullImage source, Shutterstock

What an innings this is from Josh Hull.

A maiden first class 50 after coming in as a nightwatchman yesterday.

His half-century comes via a thick outside edge trying to play a late cut and arrived in 158 balls with three fours and two sixes.

Hull, 22, was given his one and only Test cap so far almost two years ago to the day when he took three wickets for England against Sri Lanka at The Oval.

Of course that call-up was mainly for his bowling ability but he's shown he can bat here too.

  19. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:16 BST 4 September

    Elgar b Crocombe 35 (Essex 69-2 Target 329)

Essex were going quite well and quite quickly at approaching five an over but that man Henry Crocombe has the breakthrough.

That was unplayable, angled in from around the wicket and straightening perfectly as it rose to clip the top of off and send the stump cartwheeling.

Sussex just needed that to arrest the momentum.

  20. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:11 BST 4 September

    Milnes lbw b Finch 20 (Kent 238 & 340-8 v Worcestershire 217)

    Extreme plumb-idge.

The old Bakerloo/Picadilly predicament as Matt Milnes, who's enjoyed his cameo, gets on the wrong line to Adam Finch.

The ball thuds into his pads, as Milnes aims his drive through cover, and is taking pretty much everything out.

    FINALLY a wicket for Worcetershire.

Feels very much too little, too late.

    Kent's lead is 361.
