  1. Bad light stops play at Canterburypublished at 17:40 BST 4 September

    Kent 238 & 358 v Worcestershire 217 & 84-3

That might be that for the day.

    Twelve overs scheduled.

Adam Hose and skipper Brett D'Oliveira have dug in to take Worcestershire from 39-3 to 84-3 when the light dimmed too much.

Their seemingly academic target for victory is 380 but at least they have the (slight) psychological boost of getting that under 300 now to a mere 296.

I'm sure they'd be very happy to come back fresh tomorrow now.

  2. wicket

WICKETpublished at 17:37 BST 4 September

    Pepper b Coles 3 (Essex 190-6 Target 329)

Michael Pepper may not feeling at his best given his finger injury and this won't make him feel any better.

James Coles spears on towards the channel outside of off stump and gets it to turn sharply through the gap between bat and pad.

  3. 150 lead for Durhampublished at 17:35 BST 4 September

    Northants 263 v Durham 205 & 223-4

Ben Stokes and Mayank Agarwal fashioning a plump-looking cushion for Durham now.

They have 32 and 38 respectively with only six fours between them. They've scampered well and keep the strike rotating against the spinners.

Seven overs minimum left today, Plan A would be to have these two still there at the close.

Hull lbw Pennington 97 (Notts 451-8 dec v Leics 233-5)

    Josh Hull falls just short..

What a shame that is for the 22-year-old who goes for 97 after being pinned lbw by Dillon Pennington.

Just three runs short - I think everyone who is not a fan of Notts would have been willing Hull to get to a maiden first class century here.

Despite not making it to 100 that is a remarkable innings for the one-Test England bowler who arrived as a nightwatchman yesterday and batted superbly all day.

His previous highest score was 35!

  5. wicket

WICKETpublished at 17:24 BST 4 September

    Harmer c Leaning b Karvelas 16 (Essex 181-5 Target 329)

Fourth stump channel and Simon Harmer jabs down his bat in an effort to nudge into the off side but the ball takes the edge and leaps into the hands of Jack Leaning standing at a wide first slip.

MIDDX WIN BY 160 RUNSpublished at 17:24 BST 4 September

Middlesex celebrate the win over Lancashire

Naumann Ali chips Ryan Higgins hoping it goes over Toby Roland Jones at mid on but the big man takes one, two, three, four steps back and jumps to grab it over his head.

That is it and, to be honest, it caps a second fairly miserable display with the bat from Lancs.

Credit first to Middx who won the toss and chose to bat which may have seemed a questionable thing to do on an overcast day on day one but their 247 proved the match high point and therefore vindicated the choice.

Luke Hollman (54) and in the second innings Max Holden (51) proved the key men in both knocks. Lancs for their part could not put together any meaningful partnerships throughout.

Bowled out for 151 in the first innings and 136 in the second they had no answer to Tom Helm with the tall seamer taking 8-76 in the match as Middx pretty much cruised to the win.

So its 19 points to Middlesex and just three to Lancs.

  7. 50 runs

50 for Matt Critchleypublished at 17:22 BST 4 September

    Essex 177-4 Target 329

Matt Critchley takes a single from Ari Karvelas and he has his fifth half century of the campaign.

The all-rounder has been a most consistent performer this season with an average of over 50.

  8. SURREY BEAT YORKS BY ONE WICKETpublished at 17:21 BST 4 September

    Surrey 83 & 187-9 beat Yorks 185 & 82

Dan Worrall whips the second ball of the over for four and Surrey have done it.

A remarkable days cricket but ultimately it's Josh Blake who's won it for Surrey.

He's unbeaten for 183 balls scoring 43 showing incredible resolve.

Tough on Yorkshire who bowled well but they'll have to reflect on their second innings with the bat when they let a winning position slip.

Surrey move above Yorkshire in the table.

  9. Postpublished at 17:19 BST 4 September

    Surrey 183-9 v Yorks - target 185

A swing and a miss from Josh Blake and then another one goes past the bat.

It means number 11 Dan Worrall will now face.

  10. Postpublished at 17:18 BST 4 September

    Surrey 183-9 v Yorks - target 185

George Hill beats Josh Blake twice.

The first time Johnny Bairstow tries to run Blake out with an underarm throw and is all smiles as the crowd react.

  11. 200 runs

200 up for Durhampublished at 17:16 BST 4 September

    Northants 263 v Durham 205 & 202-4

Ben Stokes and Mayank Agarwal continue to frustrate Northants.

They've taken their stand beyond 50 and that's massive in the context of this match.

Durham won't feel safe - far from it - though.

The lead is approaching 150 on 147.

Still plenty of turn out there too.

Stokes and Agarwal have their eyes on stalks as they play everything.

  12. Worrall survivespublished at 17:15 BST 4 September

    Surrey 183-9 v Yorks - target 185

Dan Worrall survives two balls of Ben Coad's over.

    Over to Josh Blake now.

Surrey need two runs, Yorkshire one wicket. One for a tie

  13. wicket

WICKETpublished at 17:12 BST 4 September

    Nabi c Wharton b Coad 9 (Surrey 183-9 v Yorks - target 185)

Incredible! Auqib Nabi hits a six to put Surrey within two and then skies one to be caught by James Wharton and Yorkshire are one wicket away.

  14. Postpublished at 17:11 BST 4 September

    Surrey 183-8 v Yorks - target 185

It's been an astonishing effort from Josh Blake and he does brilliantly to keep one out from George Hill that keeps low.

Next over Auqib Nabi hits a six and Surrey are two away.

  16. Postpublished at 17:06 BST 4 September

    Surrey 173-8 v Yorks - target 185

Josh Blake takes a single off the first ball of George Hill's over.

Auqib Nabi survives the rest of the over though misses with an attempt at a huge shot last ball.

Surrey 12 away. Yorkshire 2 wickets.

And to add to the fun the light is fading.

  17. 50 runs

50 for Joe Phillipspublished at 17:02 BST 4 September

    Glos 237 & 105-2 v Derbyshire 278

Joe Phillips' half-century moves Gloucestershire over 100 runs in their second innings and gives them a lead of 64.

  18. WARKS BEAT HANTS BY AN INNINGS AND 129published at 17:02 BST 4 September

    Hants 115 & 154 f/o v Warks 398

Manav Suthar has the final say as Kyle Abbott miscues an attempted big shot and Dan Mousley takes the catch.

It's been a great return to the Bears for the India spinner who has seven in the match.

Hampshire offered some resistance after lunch notably from teenager Ben Mayes but they fell away after tea and overall it's been a sorry display.

Warwickshire underscore their title credentials with a fine team performance. The batting of Rob Yates and Mousley in gloomy conditions on the first day was notable.

  19. Postpublished at 17:00 BST 4 September

    Surrey 172-8 v Yorks - target 185

Well that's one way to approach it on your debut Auqib Nabi.

He lofts Ben Coad in the air. The ball lands on the turf and Surrey add two more.

13 needed. 2 wickets for Yorkshire

  20. wicket

WICKETpublished at 17:00 BST 4 September

    Bailey c Roland Jones b Helm 10 (Lancs 120-9 Target 297)

Tom Bailey has a big helicopter hoik off Tom Helm and the ball skies up to mid off.

Toby Roland Jones races around from mid on and takes the catch tumbling as he grabs it with two hands.
