The fight is on. This partnership has got to work, and for a very long time. Pakistan are up against it.

If they can survive the next 20 minutes, it will be great.

Meanwhile, in the County Championship, a certain Ben Stokes has hit a half-century for Durham in their match against Derbyshire. He made 53 before being caught and bowled by Anuj Dal. You can follow all of today's county cricket here.

  3. Pak 38-2published at 11 overs

Gus Atkinson appeals for lbw against Abdullah Shafique but receives a slow shake of the head from umpire Allahuddien Paleker. Struck the batter above the knee - too high.

Lunch is at 13:10. It's getting very complicated all of this.

We could even see the extra half an hour being taken at the end of the day. That's a lot of extra time for Pakistan to try and force a fourth day.

The target for Pakistan right now is just to survive the day of cricket.

  6. Pak 38-2published at 10 overs

Sharp work from Jamie Smith behind the stumps, diving and sticking out a big right paw to stop a rapid delivery from Jofra Archer. That drifted right across the left-handed Shan Masood.

Masood and Abdullah Shafique trade singles to finish to over. Pakistan's deficit is an even 200.

    Masood 17 (22), Shafique 10 (13)

Shan Masood nods in approval as Gus Atkinson's opener wobbles past his bat.

    Just a single from it.

    Time for a breather.

Jofra Archer has been bowling aggressively and hard. He's gone for quite a few runs but he's been very effective.

  10. Pak 35-2published at 8 overs

Pakistan are playing positively against Jofra Archer. Abdullah Shafique helps a short, wide delivery over the slips for four and follows it with an easy two.

Archer responds with a couple of nipping deliveries.

Here comes Gus Atkinson, replacing Ollie Robinson.

  11. Pak 29-2published at 7 overs

One sits up nicely for Shan Masood who plays square for four. He wears the final delivery of Ollie Robinson's fourth over on his thigh.

Josh Tongue's green socks are causing consternation on the TV coverage.

Surprised by the Smith criticisms. He has been a highlight for me in this Test, his keeping in the first innings was excellent, far better than it’s ever been. Props as well to Sarah Taylor who has clearly had a massive influence.

  13. Pak 23-2published at 6 overs

Better from Shan Masood, easing Jofra Archer square for four. Abdullah Shafique also collects a boundary, driving.

Nine off the over. This feels like it will be the crucial partnership for Pakistan.

That is the 10th catch taken at leg slip under Joe Root's captaincy, more than under any other England skipper since 2006.

Virat Kohli is the only other Test captain to have seen more catches taken at leg-slip (20 catches) in the same time frame.

  16. Pak 14-2published at 5 overs

Shan Masood, so familiar with Headingley having spent two seasons at Yorkshire, is yet to settle. Ollie Robinson has beaten his outside edge a couple of times, getting the ball to jag off the surface.

Masood takes a single off Robinson's penultimate delivery. Abdullah Shafique blocks.

England have done their research when it comes to bowling to Shan Masood, with Ollie Robinson immediately switching to over the wicket.

Masood averages just under 25 against right-arm pace from over the wicket, compared to 37 from round the wicket.

Joe Root, trying to make Archer tighten up his line, bringing all dismissals into play. I wonder if Azan Awais knew he was there, he was almost too confident.

  19. Pak 13-2published at 4 overs

Joe Root offers a round of applause to Jofra Archer as he jogs past him at the change of ends. 2-10 from his first two overs. Both Pakistan openers gone.
