    Yorkshire 390 v Essex 25-2

Essex are a little stuck after a depleted bowling attack plus two early wickets.

George Hill bowls a probing line from wide of the crease and Dean Elgar has one hand off the bat as he defends a little awkwardly to mid on.

    Maiden over.

Back under way in Nottingham and Hampshire are over the 200-run mark in their first innings.

Jake Lehmann is still leading the way for the visitors on 76 not out and has found a good foil in Scott Currie who is on a very careful 12 from 64 deliveries.

228 is the all-important follow-on mark and Hampshire are not too far away from it now.

  3. Postpublished at 16:02 BST 9 September

    Sussex 263-4 v Surrey

Adam Thomas is over the wicket to Charlie Tear, who is up on his toes to block to mid on.

A wider ball, back of a length is played to deep cover.

Tear keeps the strike and moves on to 88.

  4. Postpublished at 16:00 BST 9 September

    Yorkshire 390 v Essex 25-2

Full, outside off from Kuldeep and Charlie Allison drives to long off for four runs. Lovely shot.

Four more cut to backward point from the crease as Kuldeep drags one down a bit.

    Anderson lbw Williams 0 (Lancs 134 v Glos 212)

Wonder how Sir James Anderson feels about the decision to let Will Williams leave Lancashire at the end of last season.

The Red Rose skipper is lbw first ball to one that cuts back off the seam and Williams finishes with 6-24 from 13.5 overs.

They are career-best figures and have earned Gloucestershire a first-innings lead of 78 at Old Trafford.

Williams will be on a hat-trick - of sorts - at the start of Lancashire's second innings.

    Sussex 260-4 v Surrey

Spinner Rahul Chahar is bowling at the other end.

Patient from Charlie Tear, waiting for the flighted deliveries, playing carefully into the off side.

    He's on 86 now.

  7. Five-wicket haul for Will Williamspublished at 15:57 BST 9 September

    Lancs 134-9 v Glos 212

And against his former employers as well....

An inswinging delivery cleans up Mitch Stanley and Will Williams has five wickets in an innings for the fourth time in his career - and first time for Gloucestershire.

  8. Postpublished at 15:57 BST 9 September

    Yorkshire 390 v Essex 17-2

Charlie Allison sees out the last ball of the Kuldeep Yadav over and now Yorkshire all-rounder George Hill will bowl for the first time in the match.

Dean Elgar nudges a single. There's a bit of drift in the air for Hill as Allison gets a thick inside edge into the leg side for one.

Elgar is beaten outside off. Good angle, bounce and movement.

    Zaib c Lategan b Waite 110 (Worcs 200 v Northants 233-6)

The pull has been a productive shot for Saif Zaib today but now it has proved his undoing as the final session gets under way at New Road.

Matthew Waite finds a little extra bounce and Dan Lategan takes a good catch in the deep to send Zaib on his way after a 150-ball innings including two sixes and 14 fours.

Lewis McManus has been clearen to bat after yesterday's bang on a finger and has been joined by Louis Kimber.

  10. wicket

Kent all outpublished at 15:55 BST 9 September

    Stewart b Andersson 48 (Derbys 300 v Kent 219)

A very useful 37-run stand for the final wicket has moved Kent a little closer.

But they will still face an 81-lead deficit for the second half of the game.

Grant Stewart finally falls after striking 48 in 64 balls.

He goes to swing Martin Andersson down the ground but is cleaned up by one that cut in.

3-39 for Andersson as Derbyshire get ahead.

    Durham 252 & 101-1 v Middlesex 203

Ben McKinney's unbeaten 56 and 37 from Alex Lees has put Durham well on top in this contest and they have a lead of 150 runs at tea.

A little earlier, Brydon Carse took five wickets and Ben Raine three as Middlesex were bowled out for 203.

Durham's promotion charge is very much on at present.

Talking of not enforcing the follow-on…

In the final of India’s Duleep Trophy, East Zone put up a colossal 708 before bowling South Zone out for only 336.

Despite their gargantuan lead, East Zone are batting again!

Almost certainly because the day four pitch is about to crumble and spin and batting last will be a serious task.

    So unlike Grace Road basically!

But East Zone do only have a day left to win the game.

    Sussex 255-4 v Surrey

John Simpson faces the medium pace of Adam Thomas on 43.

    Charlie Tear has 83.

Simpson, possibly surprised by a full toss, plays it harmlessly into the off side for no run.

  14. Yadav with 'dramatic double strike'published at 15:53 BST 9 September

    Yorkshire 390 v Essex 15-2

    Nick Gledhill
    BBC Essex

Yorkshire’s patient application which extended their first innings to 390 was rewarded with a dramatic double strike by Kuldeep Yadav just before tea.

Kuldeep was left unused when Surrey won by one wicket last week. Here Johnny Bairstow handed him the ball in just the 11th over. With his fourth ball he trapped Paul Walter LBW and with his eleventh Essex captain Tom Westley was bowled by one that pitched middle and leg and hit off.

Earlier Matt Critchley had hastened the end of the Yorkshire innings to complete a second five wicket haul of the season. It was the first indication of the role spin is likely to play.

Sam Cook was nominated to replace Mitch Killeen should England not require him. Killeen stays in the game as the replacement for the injured Jamie Porter. The problem for Essex is that Cook’s chance to make any real impact may have been and gone.

  15. Evening session begins at Headingleypublished at 15:51 BST 9 September

    Yorkshire 390 v Essex 15-2

One ball left in the Kuldeep Yadav over after dismissing Tom Wesltey with the last ball before the break.

Charlie Allison takes guard for the first time in this innings.

Sam Cook has come into the Essex team as a replacement following that Jamie Porter injury - but he'll need a score to bowl with.

    Hope-Bell c Young b Woakes 2 (Glam 69 & 12-1 v Warks 391)

    Experience trumps youth.

Jack Hope-Bell could have left that delivery from Chris Woakes, but pushed out at the ball and edged to third slip where Will Youing took the catch.

Glamorgan skipper Kiran Carlson comes to the crease with his side in need of something approaching a miracle.

    Derbys 300 v Kent 219-9

These are handy late runs for Kent.

First Grant Stewart pulls Ben Aitchinson through square for four and then No. 11 Khaled Ahmed swings at Brett Randell and takes him over midwicket for another boundary.

    The deficit down to 81.

  18. 100 runs

100 up for Durhampublished at 15:47 BST 9 September

    Durham 252 & 100-1 v Middlesex 203

100 on the board for Durham in their second innings and a lead of 149 runs.

They still have nine wickets intact and a lot of time to play (weather permitting) so you have to say they are in a very strong position at this point.

We still haven't had tea at Chester-le-Street by the way.

    Glamorgan 69 & 9-0 v Warks 391

Relief for Jack Hope-Bell, who avoids the dreaded pair on first-class debut with a single off Chris Woakes.

The former England seamer then finds the edge of Asa Tribe's bat, but the ball flies wide of fourth slip and away for four.

  20. Play resumes in Cardiffpublished at 15:37 BST 9 September

    Glamorgan 69 & 4-0 v Warks 391

Right then, it's time for Glamorgan to show they are made of.

A repeat of their day one batting performance and the game could be over this evening.

Warwickshire, though, will be expecting stiffer resistance as they seek the 10 wickets to bring them a fifth win of the season.

Jack Hope-Bell is on a pair and it is opening partner Asa Tribe who gets the scoreboard moving with a boundary to mid-wicket off Ethan Bamber.
