  1. Pak 107-8published at 25 overs

    Shakeel 43, Abbas 0

Saud Shakeel looks like he's going to keep the strike in a bid to get Pakistan somewhere near 150. After edging one for four, he charges off after pushing the ball through mid-wicket because he knows he can get back for two.

Ollie Robinson has taken 19 wickets for 124 this series. Averaging 6.5 and a wicket every 20 balls.

    Phil Tufnell
Former England spinner on Test Match Special

Ollie Robinson has really been metronomic with a lot of skill. He's had a golden summer.

Robinson has changed his tact after lunch and is bowling genuine awayswing now.

  4. Pak 101-8published at 24 overs

How long can Muhammad Abbas survive? Saud Shakeel is still there on 37.

Abbas gives the pitch a sheepish stare after playing and missing to Robinson.

Ollie Robinson just tossed one off and Razaullah has been having a swing since he arrived.

Ben Duckett with those little hands manages to hang onto one.

  6. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 23.3 overs

    Razaullah c Duckett b Robinson 11 (Pak 101-8)

Three balls. That's all it takes after lunch.

Razaullah Khan, one of the debutants, wafts loosely at his first delivery after the break. The ball takes the edge, Ben Duckett holds onto this chance and Ollie Robinson has his third wicket.

    Too easy.

  7. Pak 100-7published at 13:45 BST 9 September

When Bangladesh toured England in 2010, they had to follow-on in both matches and lost 2-0. Tamim Iqbal did score a century in the second match though. Is this Pakistan side worse? Do we have to look further back for a more one-sided contest?

The players are back out after lunch.

  8. 'Pakistan challenges left me questioning my future as a coach'published at 13:39 BST 9 September

Former coach Jason Gillespie says some of the challenges he faced while working with Pakistan left him questioning whether he wanted to remain a coach in the sport.

"I questioned whether I wanted to be involved in coaching any more because parts of that experience were absolutely fantastic, exhilarating, but dealing with the other stuff, the external people, I found that incredibly challenging and incredibly deflating.

"I questioned whether coaching was something I wanted to do going forward. I am still a little scarred from that experienced by time tends to heal."

  9. Pakistan's 'external influences' impacting cricket - Gillespiepublished at 13:34 BST 9 September

More from former Pakistan coach Jason Gillespie: "I went in with my eyes wide open. I knew things were done differently. I saw it as an opportunity to help the national team get better and an opportunity to be involved in Test cricket.

"To say Pakistan was unique is an understatement. It was very different to anything I have experienced. Once outside influences come in and start to take over it compromises how you work with the players. External influences make it hard.

"Seeing the score at lunch here it is heartbreaking to see because I have worked with a number of these players."

Former Pakistan coach Jason Gillespie asked if he is surprised by Pakistan's struggles: "The short answer is no. Decisions will be made from above if a result isn't what is wanted, whether that is the chair of selectors or the PCB. If a result or two doesn't go the way the hierarchy wants, that is what happens.

"When I was there I was involved in five Test matches. There always seemed to be a lot of things going on behind the scenes and a lot of messaging from different sources."

Pakistan made four changes for this match and sent their coach and bowling coach home. It has not made any difference so far.

They have rattled through coaches, some of them legends of the game, at an alarming rate in recent years.

One of those is Jason Gillespie, who resigned as coach in 2024. He's speaking to TMS about the situation now. You can listen at the top of this page.

It has been horrible from Pakistan.

There are plenty of reasons for this, each of which can be debated in time. But the result has been the worst performance by a touring side in England across a series since...

You can answer that question for me too...

So many changes but, so far, it has been the same old story for Pakistan on this tour.

England well on top at Edgbaston. They'll hope to wrap up the tail sharpish after lunch and then pile on the runs.

That'll be the plan anyway. To see how that goes - and to reflect on an eventful morning session - here's Matthew Henry.

Credit to England, once again, producing outstanding bowling on a pitch that didn't have a lot on offer for the pacers but somehow they made their own. Partly also because Pakistan were pretty ordinary with their technique and mindset.

It's been difficult for Babar Azam, in particular. Seven changes and he had to deal with it and he had to sort out the dressing room confidence as well. It's been tough batting for them once again.

  19. Lunch - Pak 100-7published at 23 overs

    Razaullah 11, Saud 37

Razaullah Khan flays the last ball of the session over cover for four to bring up the 100 for Pakistan.

A positive end to an otherwise horrendous morning for the tourists.

England will be thrilled to have taken seven wickets on a pretty good surface. Three wickets for Josh Tongue and a couple each for Ollie Robinson and Jofra Archer.

Pakistan's false shot percentage so far today sits at 40%, the second highest in the opening session of a Test since 2006.
