Two balls remaining in the session and Razaullah Khan calls the physio out after taking a whack on the gloves.

It was an off-cutter from Josh Tongue but the ball kicked up to surprise Razaullah. Painful but he's fine to continue.

That's good batting. Razaullah Khan picked up the length early and smashed it.

That's the best way to bat on this surface. If you're part of the tail you may as well go for it.

  3. Pak 96-7published at 22.2 overs

Smiles from Josh Tongue as he bangs one in short and sees Razaullah Khan take it on, somewhat unconvincingly, and get the ball to the mid-wicket boundary.

A wild swipe follows. The Pakistan man connects only with fresh air this time. This could be an entertaining innings...

  4. Pak 92-7published at 22 overs

Ollie Robinson is relentlessly targeting Saud Shakeel's pads and hits them two balls running.

The first is angling down leg - and runs away for four leg byes - so, despite an appeal, England don't review.

The next is also heading down leg and another leg bye comes. Robinson finishes to a good one to Razaullah Khan that nips back and takes a bit of glove before looping into the leg side and landing safely.

Time for one more over before lunch.

  6. Pak 86-7published at 21 overs

Razaullah Khan is the third debutant pushed into the firing line for Pakistan and gets off the mark with a solid push through mid-on first ball.

That brings him two and he keeps out the last.

Ollie Robinson is going to return for a quick burst before lunch.

Excellent full delivery and he's broken a stump as well.

Tremendous delivery and it's impossible for Mohammad Imran to track down.

    Pakistan go further down.

    Imran b Tongue 5 (Pak 84-7)

Josh Tongue strikes again - another broken stump as well.

It's just top-class fast bowling from the England man. A fast yorker, zeroing in on off stump and finding its target.

Mohammad Imran had dug in well to that point but he was beaten all ends up there.

  11. Pak 82-6published at 20 overs

Mohammad Imran is farming the strike now! Another single from the last ball, a leg bye this time.

Just two from the over prior to that, tucked into the leg side. An over that will help Gus Atkinson's economy rate somewhat.

We've got a little more than 10 minutes left in the session.

    On Babar Azam's innings:

He disintegrated. It's tough for him. He's got to explain all this mayhem and then he has to look after himself and then he's got to work with the lot that are more T20 in nature than Test cricket.

  13. Pak 79-6published at 19 overs

Saud Shakeel nails another drive but this time finds the cover fielder.

He pushes through point for a couple before nudging a single fourth ball.

Mohammad Imran, also on debut, is left with two balls to face and does so. But the last is well down leg and Jamie Smith does well to stop it going for four byes.

In fact, it works well for England, just a single and new batter Imran will stay on strike.

Test cricket needs a good Pakistan side but hard to see them getting better any time soon. The score, bad as it is, actually flatters them.

Saud Shakeel has looked pretty fluent. That shot looks a bit desperate but he's playing the situation.

This innings is in serious turmoil. Saud Shakeel has to be helped. Let's see how the tail plays this time.

  16. Pak 75-6published at 18 overs

No one else seems to know what to do but Saud Shakeel is playing very nicely and unfurls another fine drive that races to the boundary.

It's typical of Gus Atkinson's luck in this series that he's the England bowler who has been left bowling to the only Pakistan batter who has shaped up nicely today.

Four more from Saud as he stays on the attack. He opens the face but this is more of a thick outside edge than anything, high and wide of gully.

A single keeps him on strike.

That's another dismissal for Babar Azam against high pace in this series - all three of his dismissals have come against deliveries clocking 86 miles per hour or faster.

How do Pakistan conquer this? There's mental fatigue and turmoil in the dugout, I can understand that. But from an individual point of view, I think Pakistan have been waiting for the ball to come and damage them completely.

They have not been proactive at all. They have to have a plan. This is a flat pitch, it's not a demon-like pitch, like the third day at Lord's.

  19. Pak 64-6published at 17 overs

This has been a brilliant morning for England but an absolute shocker for Pakistan.

Who knew sending home half your squad and sacking the coach mid-series wasn't a recipe for success?

Ghazi Ghori will remember his first ball in Test cricket fondly but he won't want to remember his fifth.

He was absolutely beaten for pace.
