A team has never started an innings worse than Pakistan during a series in England - Pakistan's second wicket in this series has fallen with the score of 6 and 13 at Leeds, 16 and 7 at Lord's and 14 when the second wicket fell here, so a total of 56 runs for the first two wickets.

An average partnership of 5.6 and 11.2 runs for the fall of the second wicket this series.

They are set to break a record set by Australia in 1888 who averaged just 16 for the fall of their second wicket in that series.

    Drinks - Pak 35-4published at 12 overs

Beauty from Gus Atkinson, rushing Babar Azam and seeing the ball fly just past the outside edge.

And another to end the over. Good start from the England seamer. A maiden and now it's time for drinks.

Very dark and gloomy here at Edgbaston and a spot of rain around. Brollies being opened, hoods being pulled up and a few fans not dressed for the weather beating a retreat to the concourses.

  4. Pak 35-4published at 11.3 overs

Gus Atkinson is into the attack, replacing Jofra Archer.

He's taken just one wicket this series, at 125, but he has bowled a whole lot better than that.

That's the way it goes sometimes and he'll be hoping his luck turns in this match.

The more I see of this England team, the more impressed I am. They exude confidence, despite the odd dropped catch. They give the impression of being around for a while.

  6. Pak 35-4published at 11 overs

There's four to help edge Pakistan closer to their lowest ever Test score. Byes as Ollie Robinson errs down the leg side, the ball just flicking the gloves of Jamie Smith, who continues up to the stumps.

A thick edge then brings Saud Shakeel couple more as rain begins to fall at Edgbaston. Let's hope it's nothing more than a passing shower.

England have improved their numbers when catching in the slips/gully off the quicks this summer, even after the earlier drop from Ben Duckett.

England's slip/gully catching percentage off pace bowling:

    • 77% - this series
    • 78% - v New Zealand
    • 65% - Ashes 25/26
    • 68% - v India 2025

We are firmly in the territory of looking up Pakistan's lowest totals now aren't we?

Pakistan's lowest total in Tests is the 49 they were bowled out for against South Africa in February 2013. Their lowest in England is the 72 they were dismissed for on this ground in August 2010.

Ominous grey clouds linger over Edgbaston.

Oof. That is a beauty from Jofra Archer to welcome Saud Shakeel to the crease.

Fast, fiery and moving away off the seam as he rears up past the left-hander.

Saud much prefers the fuller ball that follows and he drives through mid-off for three.

That's a shocker. I feel for Pakistan because this is embarrassing with everything they've had to cope with in the last week.

You can clearly see they're shot for confidence. From a decent player that's a shocker.

Shan Masood just poked it to the fielder. That's an extraordinary dismissal.

Jofra Archer has another one. That looked so tame.

Oh dear. The tamest of dismissals.

Jofra Archer digs this one in short and Shan Masood shapes up to go after it, seems to realise his mistake but a moment too late - and just sends the ball looping gently to mid-on.

Two wickets apiece for Archer and Ollie Robinson and Pakistan are crumbling again.

It's a really good start from England again. There's just enough movement for them out there.

Pakistan are really low on confidence.

  15. Pak 26-3published at 9 overs

Babar Azam is in at five and turns his third ball around the corner to get off the mark with a couple.

He just about jams his bat down in time to keep out Ollie Robinson's last delivery.

The seamer now has figures of 2-4 from his first five overs.

Ollie Robinson is running in and expecting to take a wicket every single ball. And he's not far off.

Abdullah Shafique looks like he's lost his confidence. The skipper comes in 42 minutes into this Test match and he's in too soon.

    Ollie Robinson gets another.

Dan Lawrence with a good low catch and Robinson is continuing this fabulous run with the ball.

  18. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 8.2 overs

    Shafique c Lawrence b Robinson 3 (Pak 24-3)

That's Test wicket number 101 for Ollie Robinson.

He angles the ball in at off stump, not a huge amount of lateral movement this time but Adbullah Shafique's bat comes down at an angle and the edge is found.

It goes fast and low to gully and Dan Lawrence takes a good catch.

Another wicket for Robinson. What a series he's having.

I'm not judging a bowling attack against this kind of team. They have all the credentials and skill sets which is what you require but away in South Africa will be the big challenge.

Will this four be able to play three on the trot in the heat? This attack will have success against Australia in English conditions but you can't assess it against a batting side like this.

When you are up against better batters they put you under pressure. We think the accuracy is there but you never know.

  20. Pak 24-2published at 8 overs

Shan Masood is off the mark with an edge that flies just wide of the slip for four.

Streaky but he'll take it. A couple of singles follow and Pakistan will take every run they can right now.
