  1. goal

GOAL: Preston 0-1 Bristol Citypublished at 19:51 BST 1 September

    Scott Twine (4 mins)

    More misery for Preston.

The Lilywhites have lost all three league games so far and they trail early at Deepdale.

Lorent Tolaj scuffs a low cross (or is it a shot) that runs perfectly into the path of Scott Twine to tuck away.

  2. 'Wolves are not sitting back'published at 19:51 BST 1 September

    West Ham 0-0 Wolves

    David Kelly
Former Wolves and West Ham striker on BBC Radio WM

    Wolves have turned up.

They're not sitting back that's for sure. They're here to win a football game.

  3. Postpublished at 19:50 BST 1 September

    West Ham 0-0 Wolves

Wolves enjoying a lot of the ball in the opening stages and strung probably 50 passes together in that move before Mateus Mane went down under pressure on the edge of the box, only for his appeals for a foul to be waved away.

    Japhet Tanganga (4 mins)

    Bolton's lead was short-lived.

Blades skipper Japhet Tanganga heads his side level from Sydie Peck's clipped free-kick.

    Ooft, some start!

  5. goal

GOAL: Sheff Utd 0-1 Boltonpublished at 19:47 BST 1 September

    Xavier Simons (1 min)

This wont have improved the mood in Bramall Lane!

Xavier Simons was sent off on his last visit to this city in the Carabao Cup first round against Sheffield Wednesday in the first game of the season.

He's been banned since but he's after making up for lost time.

Just over 30 seconds in he volleys a rebound into the back of the net after the Blades fail to clear Thierry Gale's low cross form the left.

    Wow.

We're under way in the Nuno Espirito Santo Derby.

Former Wolves skipper Max Kilman also faces his former club while Hammers target Ladislav Krejci is on the bench for Wanderers.

This is a battle of the two pre-season favourites for automatic promotion and it should be a cracker.

Claret and blue v old gold. Perfect.

  7. KICK-OFFpublished at 19:46 BST 1 September

Six games kick-off at 19:45 BST

Here we go in the six early kick-offs, with the games at Stoke and Birmingham to come in 15 minutes from now.

It's likely to be chaos off the pitch on deadline day evening, will it be the same on the pitch for the next couple of hours?

    Let's see...

West Ham need to grab hold of this quick, but this Wolves side have got something about them.

West Ham need to get on top of this quickly otherwise the fans are going to switch.

So, I'm looking for them to pass it quicker.

Good evening from Fratton Park where it's sure to be an emotional night.

We got the sad news this morning that former Portsmouth goalkeeper Alan Knight had died aged 65 after being diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2024.

The club have said that they will do a full tribute to their former player before Saturday's home match, with plans already in place for a tribute tonight.

The club will be shortly holding a minute's applause for supporter Beau Croucher who tragically passed away recently at the age of 14.

Our thoughts are with the families of both Alan and Beau at this very sad and tough time.

  10. Vipotnik staying at Swanseapublished at 19:40 BST 1 September

    Swansea v Watford (19:45 BST)

    Gareth Vincent
BBC Sport Wales at the Swansea.com Stadium

Zan Vipotnik is on the Swansea bench tonight and the suggestion from the Welsh club is that after a summer of speculation, there is now no chance of last season's Championship top scorer moving on before tonight's deadline.

That goes down as a major boost for Swansea given that many inside the club felt the Slovenia international was likely to move on in this window.

Club captain Ben Cabango, meanwhile, is not involved this evening - but Swansea insist that is a result of an ongoing heel injury rather than the imminent transfer deadline.

Cabango was linked with a move to West Ham earlier in the day.

  11. Hammers aim to tame Wolves againpublished at 19:37 BST 1 September

West Ham v Wolves (19:45 BST)

About as big as they come in the second tier.

West Ham have drawn their opening two away games at Burnley and Watford either side of a calamitous 2-1 home defeat by Charlton to unexpectedly sit in the bottom six in the fledgling Championship standings.

Wolves left it late to snatch a draw at home to Blackburn in the season opener but have since thumped Preston and Stoke to lie second, with the chance to go top of the pile tonight.

Wanderers have a shocking record at the Hammers, however, losing on their past six visits by an aggregate score of 16-1, and it's a fixture that tends to bring the best out of United skipper Jarrod Bowen, who has scored six and assisted three against Wolves, more goal involvements than he has against any other club.

West Ham could do with him firing tonight, they are seeking to avoid losing their opening two home games outside the top flight for the first time in 70 years.

    Get the popcorn ready.

  12. Unbeaten Blades aim for first winpublished at 19:35 BST 1 September

Sheffield United are yet to lose in the league this season. They're also yet to win.

It's three games played and three draws for Chris Wilder's men in the league to date.

The Blades don't boast a good recent record in front of their home support, going back to last season it's just one win in their past eight league games at Bramall Lane.

They bring versatile midfielder Hamza Choudhury straight into the XI after he joined on a permanent deal from Leicester on Monday. Forward Callum O'Hare completed his switch to Wrexham earlier this afternoon.

Bolton's decent start to life back in the Championship hit the buffers on Saturday when they fell to a 1-0 defeat at home to also promoted Lincoln City.

Wanderers make three changes from the weekend, Ben Davies and Gaizka Larrazabal are in in defence and Xavier Simons comes into midfield after serving a three-match ban.

  13. Swans & Hornets join to remember Kenny Jackettpublished at 19:33 BST 1 September

    Swansea v Watford (19:45 BST)

Swansea welcome Watford for what promises to be an emotional night in south Wales as the two sides meet for the first time since the death of Kenny Jackett, who played such an important role in the history of both clubs.

The Swans have penned a special tribute in tonight's programme to their ex-manager, who died in June aged 64.

While both sides will share memories of Jackett before the game, on the pitch they both have an unbeaten record to protect.

The Swans are third in the fledgling table on the back of impressive away wins at Derby and Stoke, but were held to a goalless draw by Sheffield United in their only home league match.

Watford are in ninth place after kicking off their campaign with a statement 2-1 win at home to relegated Southampton, before showing great resilience in successive 1-1 draws against Wrexham and West Ham.

  14. Imps welcome infrequent visitors Roverspublished at 19:31 BST 1 September

    Lincoln v Blackburn (19:45 BST)

Blackburn boss Tony MowbrayImage source, Shutterstock

This is the first league meeting between these sides since January 1958*.

Lincoln will be looking to build on Saturday's win at Bolton, in what was their first victory at this level since 1961.

The Imps have made two changes to the XI that started the win in Lancashire, Tom Bayliss and Rob Street come in.

Blackburn suffered their first loss of the campaign on Saturday with a 2-1 home reverse by QPR but have a strong recent record on the road with just one defeat in their past six league road trips dating back to last season.

Boss Tony Mowbray makes two alterations from the 11 given the shirts on Saturday, Aysnley Pears comes in in goal for Balazs Toth, who has been linked with a move away but misses out tonight (and presumably on any potential transfer) with a groin injury, and Sam Morsy comes into midfield.

*A 1-1 draw in the second tier if you were interested.

  15. Preston in need of home comfortspublished at 19:29 BST 1 September

Preston v Bristol City (19:45 BST)

Preston boss Paul HeckingbottomImage source, Shutterstock

Things can only get better for Preston after a wretched start to the campaign.

The Lilywhites have lost all three of their Championship matches and were hammered 4-0 at home by Everton in the Carabao Cup second round last week.

Boss Paul Heckingbottom gives first starts to Caleb Wiley and Stan Mills after they featured from the bench at Charlton.

Bristol City picked up their first win of the season on Saturday with a 2-1 win over Portsmouth and have lost just one of their past five visits to Deepdale.

The visitors make three changes from the weekend, as Noah Eile, Adam Randell and Sam Greenwood come into the XI.

  16. Motivating factors for Pompey and Derbypublished at 19:27 BST 1 September

    Portsmouth v Derby (19:45 BST)

The death of former Portsmouth goalkeeper Alan Knight will put football into context at Fratton Park tonight.

Nevertheless, both Pompey and visitors Derby County will still be pulling out all of the stops to add to their points tally, albeit for different reasons.

Portsmouth's players and manager John Mousinho will be eager to dedicate their performance to Knight and his family, but will also want to bounce back from Saturday's disappointing defeat and performance at Bristol City, which left them 15th in the Championship table.

Derby, meanwhile, are down in 21st and still searching for their first win of the league season.

Rams boss John Eustace said that Saturday's 3-0 defeat at home to Swansea "had been coming" and that his side "lacked confidence" after kicking off their campaign with consecutive draws.

  17. Knight's 'legend' status 'speaks volumes'published at 19:25 BST 1 September

Portsmouth host Derby County on a night when players, staff and supporters will join to mourn the loss of a former player still known fondly as "The Legend".

Tributes have poured in today following the news that beloved former Pompey goalkeeper Alan Knight had died of prostate cancer, aged 65.

Knight played for the club across four decades, making 801 appearances between 1978 to 2000, a record for a keeper at a single English club.

He went on to serve as a coach and ambassador at Fratton Park before being awarded an MBE following his retirement, and was also handed the Freedom of the City of Portsmouth.

In a touching tribute, the club said "the fact that Alan was still known as The Legend at Pompey more than 20 years after hanging up his gloves speaks volumes".

A minute's applause will be held before Saturday's game against Cardiff City, rather than before tonight's match, as a similar tribute has already been planned for Pompey fan Beau Croucher, who passed away aged 14.

The club said it had made this decision "with the blessing of Alan's family". A book of condolence will also be set up at Fratton Park.

Still early days but Wolves head to West Ham knowing a win at the London Stadium would take them top of the Championship, for at least 24 hours.

Swansea are waiting to pounce on any slip-ups and could take over in first place with a home win against unbeaten Watford, if they win by a larger margin than Wolves do.

At the other end Preston will seek to pick up their first points of the season as Bristol City head to Deepdale while Stoke will seek to do likewise in one of the late games as they host Norwich.
