    Derbys v Kent 236-8 (Target: 434)

A potentially significant moment in that over.

Brett Randell, who has two wickets to his name today, tempts the edge of Hasan Mahmud and the ball flies to the side of Matt Montgomery.

The slip fielder does very well to even get near it but for a moment it looked as though he might have held onto it - it would have been a screamer and another welcome breakthrough for Derbyshire had he done so.

We are now into the final 16 overs after another maiden.

    Derbys v Kent 236-8 (Target: 434)

The new ball yields another maiden.

Bertie Foreman had the odd opportunity in that over to get down to the other end and add to his own tally, but he decides against it.

With the final ball Foreman looks to nudge Ben Aitchison into the leg side but the seamer finds a leading edge - Foreman gets away with one as the ball drops safely.

Brett Randell is coming on at the other end.

Just saw the video of the Stewart LBW - I agree with Grant - definitely going down leg, not that it matters now. Not an easy job umpiring, but a lot of shockers this year.

Methinks Kent don’t want promotion after all , prefer to play it safe in Div 2 instead of being spanked every week in Div 1

    Derbys v Kent 236-8 (Target: 434)

The removal of Grant Stewart gave Derbyshire renewed enthusiasm that they can still claim victory here, but Hasan Mahmud looks determined not to give away his wicket for nothing.

He clips Martin Andersson away for four first up and then remains very respectful throughout the remainder of the over to come out the other side.

The new ball is now available.

    Derbys v Kent 232-8 (Target: 434)

Bertie Foreman has to play this situation a little differently now to how he might have had Grant Stewart still been at the other end.

He faces five balls from Luis Reece and they are five dots, but from the sixth ball he clips really attractively down to the long on boundary. That leaves Hasan Mahmud on strike for Martin Andersson's next over.

  7. Postpublished at 16:41 BST 11 September

    Derbys v Kent 228-8 (Target: 434)

A maiden over from Martin Andersson, who bowls at Kent's number ten Hasan Mahmud.

He gets under a bouncer, attempts to cut away a wider delivery which does not beat point and leaves the final ball in order to allow partner Bertie Foreman back on strike.

Luis Reece is about to bowl for the first time in the match.

    Derbys v Kent 228-8 (Target: 434)

Bertie Foreman sweeps two consecutive, good looking, shots to the boundary from the bowling of Jack Morley - but Derbyshire might not mind the second four, the final ball of the over, finding the rope.

It leaves new batter and tail-ender Hasan Mahmud on strike and facing Martin Andersson.

It was on the final day of the 2025 season that Durham were relegated from Division One of the County Championship.

They were playing Yorkshire at Headingley and knew all they had to do was bat out the final day to stay up. Hampshire had lost earlier and were set for the drop. Durham didn't even make tea and lost by an innings.

There was much soul-searching during the winter and many questions asked about what went wrong? Many, including me, thought Alex Lees would lose the captaincy, but the club decided to stay with him.

And now they are celebrating promotion less than a year on, with nine wins in 12 games and an unbeaten record in Division Two.

They've all played their part, whether it's David Bedingham's 1,000+ runs, or the bowlers who have worked tirelessly across the season.

Having Ben Stokes unexpectedly back in the ranks - along with Brydon Carse - has also been a bonus.

One thing is certain, the celebratory champagne will certainly be better than the bitter taste of relegation a year ago.

  10. wicket

WICKETpublished at 16:31 BST 11 September

Stewart lbw Andersson 65 (Derbys v Kent 218-8, target 434)

    Huge wicket!

Seamer Martin Andersson, who has 179 runs and three wickets to his name in this match, is back into the attack to break what was becoming a monotony of spin.

With the final ball of the first over of his spell, he strikes. It is a bit of a celebr-appeal as Andersson sprints down the wicket having rapped Grant Stewart on the front pad.

Umpire's finger is raised, to Stewart's bemusement. He seems to think it was maybe going down leg - that, or it is simply dejection that he had done so much hard work and has to go.

Nevertheless, an applaudable knock in the circumstances.

  11. Postpublished at 16:24 BST 11 September

    Derbys v Kent 217-7 (Target: 434)

Grant Stewart cuts away Jack Morley with the first ball of the over for a couple before he is forward to the left armer, who is coming round the wicket.

A single leaves Bertie Foreman to deal with three further deliveries, which he does with minimal fuss.

Five overs until Derbyshire can get their hands on the new ball, should they wish to.

Durham will be a major force in Division One next season, especially if England don't come calling for some of their top performers!

    David, Durham

With Gay already in the England team and Ben Stokes retired from international cricket, it's hard to see many more than McKinney, Carse and Potts who might come into the selectors' thinking.

  13. SUSSEX DRAW WITH SURREYpublished at 16:20 BST 11 September
    Breaking

    Sussex 393 & 167-3 v Surrey 321

There is speculation that a draw could be formally agreed at 1620.

So this might be a leisurely over. Ollie Pope is going to bowl medium pace - we think. With one slip and no discernable run up.

This time he comes in off four paces and bowls leg side.

A very full, loopy ball is patted down safely by James Coles.

Another very slow ball is played leg side. A field change. Dom Sibley comes up from deep mid-wicket.

James Coles pushes the ball leg side and here come the handshakes...

Sussex take 14 points, Surrey 13.

Both teams are clear of relegation worries though Surrey will need ideally a win or at least to avoid defeat in their last two games to be sure to stay up.

A rather farcical end to an otherwise competitive three days of cricket - after day one was lost entirely to rain.

Surrey were under severe pressure at times, falling to 47-3 and 251-7 in response to the Sussex first innings total.

Crucial half centuries from Ryan Patel, Ben Foakes and Mahipal Lomror steadied the ship, taking time and pressure out of the game.

We saw seam movement with the new ball and spin with the older ball, though much of the latter was slow and predictable on quite a featherbed surface.

George Thomas fell early to Matt Fisher give Surrey hope after losing their last three first innings wickets quickly this morning, but 63 from Sussex skipper Tom Haines and an unbeaten 37 from Oli Carter steered Sussex to safety.

Adam Thomas to continue and Oli Carter defends. Possibly his last over and the penultimate one of the game with a draw to be confirmed soon.

A short ball is pulled leg side for no run. Maiden over.

    Derbys v Kent 214-7 (Target: 434)

Left-arm off-break Jack Morley is getting left-hander Bertie Foreman sweeping - and he has set the field accordingly.

Remarkably we have a short leg, a short leg gully and a short mid-wicket, all wearing helmets.

Rahul Chahar will at some point bowl, though it should be noted that one or two fielders are sitting down and Oli Carter needs to put his gloves on. Ready.

Chahar tosses the ball up and Carter lets it go.

A full toss is driven to Dan Worrall down the ground for one.

James Coles defends into the off side - and Chahar removes his shades for the final ball of the over, pitching short and dabbed way for no run.

  18. Postpublished at 16:13 BST 11 September

    Derbys v Kent 213-7 (Target: 434)

Remarkably, 46 of the 72 overs bowled by Derbyshire in this innings, in pursuit of match-winning wickets, have been spin - and yet they have not reaped a single breakthrough.

Shoaib Bashir and Jack Morley, who are continuing now, have bowled some decent stuff in their respective spells and have gone close on more than one occasion, but all seven Kent wickets have fallen to seam.

There are eight overs until the new ball when we shall surely see Ben Aitchison and Brett Randell return.

With the points secured for both teams this game does indeed feel a bit moribund now, plus there's still a lot of cricket left for these players to prepare for in the last couple of rounds.

A legside ball ends the latest Adam Thomas over, leading to four leg byes.

    Here come drinks.
