That one kept a little low and it's an easy decision for the umpire.

Goegre Bell's fine innings comes to an end at Sophia Gardens, having put on 85 with Noah Thain.

Simon Harmer strolls to the crease with 25 still needed by Essex to make Glamorgan bat again.

    Somerset 731 v Surrey 422 & 52-3

We are back on at Taunton.

With the fall of Ollie Pope before the lunch break, Dan Lawrence's replacement Nik Gorantla has joined Rory Burns in the middle.

The cloud cover has really closed in during the interval, let's hope the weather does not ruin what could be an exciting finish.

Durham have opted for an all-spin attack now, with Shafiqullah Ghafari joining Callum Parkinson.

The leg-spinner drops one short and Josh Bohannon takes advantage, punching it to the midwicket boundary to move beyond 150.

It looks as though the Lancashire man will at least be finishing a difficult season on a high.

What a day it has been for Somerset.

Records broken all over the show at Taunton and a chance for victory.

Meanwhile, one of Somerset's own, Tom Banton has made his first senior international century in the One Day International between England and Sri Lanka at The Oval.

    You can follow that here.

  5. 6 runs

    Glamorgan 505 v Essex 129 & 351-5

Ray Toole to bowl the second over.

His first ball is short and Noah Thain pulls it to backward square for six.

Essex in a hurry to clear this deficit.

This is, by the way, only the fourth over with the new ball, which was taken last evening.

  6. Postpublished at 13:03 BST 27 September

    Glamorgan 505 v Essex 129 & 345-5

Timm van der Gugten forces Noah Thain back onto his stumps, but he opens the face and runs it down past the slips for four.

A productive opening over for Essex - 14 from it after George Bell spanks the final delivery to the cover boundary.

    We have play.

Timm van der Gugten to bowl.

George Bell and Noah Thain are the not out batters.

Essex need 45 runs to avoid an innings defeat.

  9. Postpublished at 12:59 BST 27 September

    Lancs 303-5 v Durham 493

Callum Parkinson has a short leg in, as well as a slip, and he did get one ball to fizz up at Ben Walkden in his over of the day.

Nothing doing in the spinner's next over, though, and again it costs him two runs. Josh Bohannon has 144, with Ben Walkden on 22.

    Lancs 298-5 v Durham 493

Callum Parkinson is given his first over of the day, having collected three wickets earlier in this Lancashire innings, and concedes a couple of singles.

The second of those, to Ben Walkden, brings up the 50 partnership with Josh Bohannon as the batting side edge closer to that follow-on target - just 46 away now.

The skies above Cardiff are a bit darker than they were when the umpires decided play could begin at 1:00pm and the floodlights are on.

Let's hope this won't result in a further delay.

  12. Plans 'have all come together' - Bears skipper Barnardpublished at 12:48 BST 27 September

It was a fabulous day yesterday for Warwickshire as they wrapped up a ninth Championship title by beating Leicestershire. Here's what captain Ed Barnard had to say after receiving the trophy.

"The cricket we have played all season but especially in the last six weeks has been amazing and it has been pretty special to be part of," he said.

"It's been very special to see it all come together in the last six weeks. You don't plan to have the perfect game but we have had two or three of them and it's been really special."

Barnard said it had been a collective effort but that it was right that the Bears' bowling attack led by Ethan Bamber, Chris Woakes and Olly Hannon-Dalby would take many of the plaudits.

"Ethan, Woakesey and Olly have been brilliant and Manny (Suthur) has come in and given us just what we need. We have played on a lot of bowler-friendly pitches this year and scored the runs we needed," he said.

"Ethan has been incredible. We knew the quality he had when he signed but he has gone up four levels, never mind one level. He works as hard as anybody... and he is the nicest man in county cricket as well. The whole squad has delivered and I am so proud of them."

    Lancs 295-5 v Durham 493

Here we go, then - the covers are off and the umpires are out in the middle, soon followed by the players.

Duanne Olivier, who had bowled just one delivery of his 17th over, will send down the remaining five, with Josh Bohannon on strike.

  14. 'I was questioning myself' - Kent's Hollioakepublished at 12:44 BST 27 September

    Adam HollioakeImage source, Shutterstock

Kent head coach Adam Hollioake hailed a "remarkable turnaround" by his team after their secured promotion on Saturday when they beat Gloucestershire and rivals Northants lost.

It was their eighth win in 11 games following a slow start to the campaign and they will join Durham in Division One in 2027.

“I feel like we've been working towards it for a while so I've been I've been quietly confident but I think it's just a nice relief to have it actually done," Hollioake said.

“I wasn't confident at all last year at all and even after three games this year we were I was questioning myself as a coach and I think all the players were questioning themselves as well so it's been a pretty remarkable turnaround and credit to all the players for the way they've responded.

"Their ability this year to go out and execute the plans and pick themselves up, after what was a really tough start to the season, has been the main reason for our turnaround and our success.”

Good news - play will begin at 1:00pm at Sophia Gardens.

Glamorgan say tea will be taken at 3:00 followed by an "extended evening session".

We wouldn't count on the latter being necessary.

Another very good morning for Somerset as they stretched their overnight 691-8 to 731 all out with Tom Abell making a triple century before becoming the last man out for 307.

Frustratingly it left him one run short of the season's top run scorer, Joe Clarke.

They then removed Dom Sibley, Ryan Patel and Ollie Pope before lunch to remain in with a chance of forcing a victory.

Rory Burns (22*) has gone about his business quietly for Surrey but his side are in deep trouble.

There is still plenty of life left in this game.

    It had been coming.

Ollie Pope has looked all at sea and his misery is over as he gloves Archie Vaughan into the hands of Josh Thomas at short leg.

Pope looks angry with the decision but there did seem to be something there as well as the pad.

  20. Postpublished at 12:27 BST 27 September

Jack Leach bowls a maiden to Rory Burns.

We will get at least one more over before lunch.

A third wicket for Somerset would be huge at this stage.
