    Lancs 385-6 v Durham 493

Frustrated by two or three near misses, Callum Parkinson is left to simmer in the field for a while as Colin Ackermann replaces him in the attack and sends down a tidy over for a single.

Lancashire pick up two more runs from the next, bowled by Shaf Ghafari.

  2. 50 runs

50 partnership for Bohannon and Baldersonpublished at 14:15 BST 27 September

    Lancs 382-6 v Durham 493

Josh Bohannon has slowed down again a little now - and, at the moment, the sunshine suggests he's got plenty of time to get to 200.

The Lancashire batter's career-best looks a bit more of a stretch. That stands at 231, which he scored against Gloucestershire in 2022.

For now, Bohannon is 184 not out, with George Balderson slamming a Shaf Ghafari full toss to the boundary to reach 22.

    Somerset 731 v Surrey 422 & 53-3

Sadly the covers remain firmly on at Taunton with the rain continuing to fall.

The skies have brightened a little from when the players went off but with rain falling there is no prospect of a resumption at the moment.

  4. Postpublished at 14:05 BST 27 September

    Lancs 371-6 v Durham 493

Shaf Ghafari has been a tad expensive in this spell and he's wide outside leg stump, with George Balderson capitalising to crack him to the fence.

It's still spin at both ends, which means Durham are rattling through the overs fairly swiftly. Officially, there are 49 more to go, but you won't find anyone who expects anywhere near all of those to be bowled.

Although the sun's out at the moment, there is further rain forecast later - so Josh Bohannon might be wise to get a move on if he wants to end the campaign with a double hundred.

He's on 174 not out, having survived a drop at slip off Callum Parkinson not too long ago - and edges another one in this over, but the ball falls just short of Kasey Aldridge.

    Lancs 355-6 v Durham 493

Callum Parkinson must be despairing at his chances of getting that five-for.

George Balderson gets right underneath a pull shot and skies it in the direction of Duanne Olivier in the deep - who misjudges the flight of the ball totally.

Parkinson is getting the ball to spin, but he's having no joy at the moment. Lancashire trail by 138.

Essex supporter. I get the appeal, but suspect the best Leicester will see is their match points restored. The 8 point pitch penalty I suggest will stand which will bring them to 130 points and still relegated.

    Derek, Hampshire

Been following Essex for a long time. Sadly the team has been in decline for a while. If they stay up I fear the same for them next year.

    Lancs 350-6 v Durham 493

In theory, there are 55 overs yet to be bowled in this game. It'd be surprising if that proves to be the case.

Callum Parkinson is still hunting that fifth wicket as he completes his 46th over of the innings. He'll have to be patient for a bit longer, though.

Josh Bohannon has 166, with George Balderson nine not out.

  9. Lancashire avoid follow-onpublished at 13:38 BST 27 September

    Lancs 345-6 v Durham 493

That, you would think, puts paid to any prospect of a Durham victory as Lancashire move past the follow-on target.

The vital run comes from two byes, with a ball from Callum Parkinson shooting out of the footmarks outside left-hander George Balderson's off stump and beating both wicketkeeper and slip fielder.

Parkinson won't have enjoyed that - or the chance that Kasey Aldridge put down at slip earlier in the over when he found the edge of Josh Bohannon's bat.

  10. Anxious wait for Essexpublished at 13:35 BST 27 September

    Glamorgan 505 v Essex 129 & 351-6 - match drawn

Just to clarify what we said a few moments ago, Essex's draw in Cardiff means they end the season in eighth place with 136 points.

Leicestershire, in ninth, have 111 - but their appeal is pending against a 27-points deduction imposed after they were charged with breaching pitch regulations following last month's game against Glamorgan.

Should all those points be returned to them - they would have 138, thereby sending Essex down to Division Two.

  11. Durham on course for club-record points tallypublished at 13:31 BST 27 September

    Lancashire 336-6 v Durham 493

    Martin Emmerson

We have a wicket at Old Trafford.

Ben Walkden looked to pull the ball through the leg side and edged Callum Parkinson to Brydon Carse at backward point. He was out for 36.

He added 82 with Josh Bohannon, who has 158. Given the forecast for later this afternoon I can't envisage any other result here than a draw.

That would see Durham finish on a club-record 258 points. And at an average of 18.4 points per game, it's the highest tally by any promoted side.

When Somerset won Division Two in 2007 with 266 points, that was a 16-game season and batting points were easier to come by.

  12. Postpublished at 13:26 BST 27 September

    Lancs 334-6 v Durham 493

George Balderson is off the mark, steering Callum Parkinson for a leg-side single and now this is something of a personal tussle between the spinner and Lancashire batter Josh Bohannon.

Parkinson will be looking to end the season with a five-wicket haul, while Bohannon must surely have his eye on a double hundred.

  13. GLAMORGAN DRAW WITH ESSEXpublished at 13:26 BST 27 September
    Breaking

    Glamorgan 505 v Essex 129 & 351-6

What a shame. Just 21 balls possible on the final day as the umpires waste no time in abandoning the match as a draw.

Not, perhaps, the way Colin Ingram, Chris Cooke and Billy Root would have wanted to end their Glamorgan careers before retiring.

Essex take nine points from the game - one bowling bonus point and eight for the draw - but for them, it is now all about what happens when Leicestershire's appeal against their points deduction is heard.

If the appeal is upheld and the 27 points returned to the Foxes, the men from Chelmsford could find themselves playing in Division Two in 2027.

    Walkden c Carse b Parkinson 36 (Lancs 331-6 v Durham 493)

Not the best shot from Ben Walkden...

He attempts another powerful pull shot, this time against Callum Parkinson, and top-edges it to slip instead.

That's a fourth wicket for the Durham spinner and Lancashire are still 13 short of avoiding the follow-on as George Balderson comes to the middle.

  15. Postpublished at 13:21 BST 27 September

    Lancs 331-5 v Durham 493

Ben Walkden is enjoying himself and unveils the slog sweep to dispatch Shaf Ghafari for another boundary.

So enjoyable, in fact, that he tries to do it again later in the over and misses completely. The ball stays low as it zips on, but the stumps remain intact.

This is what we feared might happen - a disrupted final day, having only got out there at one o'clock.

Rain stops play at Cardiffpublished at 13:18 BST 27 September

    Glamorgan 505 v Essex 129 & 351-6

Just three and a half overs are possible before rain arrives and the players return to the dressing room.

What a shame, because there was some enterprising batting from Essex prior to the dismissal of George Bell.

  18. rain stops play

Rain stops play at Tauntonpublished at 13:17 BST 27 September

    Somerset 731 v Surrey 422 & 53-3

Those clouds have produced some precipitation at Taunton.

    The players are heading off.

We hope this won't last long but Surrey might not be too bothered.

  19. Postpublished at 13:16 BST 27 September

    Lancs 324-5 v Durham 493

Ben Walkden now has his highest first-class score as he leg-glances Shaf Ghafari for four to move to 30 not out.

That overtakes his 28 against Middlesex at Merchant Taylors' School last month - and he must surely have his eye on a maiden 50 as Lancashire progress towards safety.

    Somerset 731 v Surrey 422 & 53-3

This is Nik Gorantla's first innings in first class cricket.

He defends the final three balls of a Lewis Gregory over and is yet to get off the mark.
