    Somerset 731 v Surrey 422 & 114-5

Archie Vaughan does switch ends, so Somerset are trying everything to try to winkle out another Surrey batter.

Just the single from it but nothing too threatening to Surrey.

    We have 18 overs remaining.

Being undefeated all season, albeit in the second division takes some doing. I guess we'll find out next season how good Durham really are. Assuming England don't pinch too many players.

    Somerset 731 v Surrey 422 & 113-5

    Tom Kohler-Cadmore gets another bowl.

This could be just so Jack Leach and Archie Vaughan can change ends as Leach was in discussion with the Somerset captain Lewis Gregory.

    A tidy maiden from Kohler-Cadmore.

  4. Postpublished at 16:02 BST 27 September

    Somerset 731 v Surrey 422 & 113-5

It has just gone a bit quiet in the field for Somerset.

Ben Foakes and Mahipal Lomror have not gone into their shells and are taking runs when offered the chance.

They get nothing from the latest Jack Leach over though.

  5. Postpublished at 16:00 BST 27 September

    Somerset 731 v Surrey 422 & 113-5

Archie Vaughan has a go around the wicket to the right-handed Ben Foakes to change the angle of attack.

Surrey scamper a single and Mahipal Lomror shuffles down the pitch to clip a boundary to the mid-wicket fence and then hits him straight for another four.

The visitors trail by 196 runs but that is not on their minds, this is about survival.

  6. Postpublished at 15:57 BST 27 September

    Somerset 731 v Surrey 422 & 104-5

Jack Leach gets a bowl at Mahipal Lomror.

There is some lovely looking rough outside the left-hander's off stump and Leach gets a couple to spit into the pads.

    Another maiden.

  7. Postpublished at 15:54 BST 27 September

    Somerset 731 v Surrey 422 & 104-5

Somerset do start to crowd the bat and bring in a second slip for Archie Vaughan bowling to the left-handed Mahipal Lomror.

One run from the over and we have 23 remaining.

Surely the only way we'll get a fair County Championship is when the calendar is adjusted so that each county plays each other twice? If it has to be 3 divisions, OK, otherwise a complete revision is needed.

    John, Norwich

Interesting point, John, but in a three-division scenario, how many games would each team play during a season? Three tiers of six with home and away would only mean 10 fixtures per team - four fewer than now.

  9. Postpublished at 15:52 BST 27 September

    Somerset 731 v Surrey 422 & 103-5

Ben Foakes is still happy to play the drive despite Jack Leach spinning the ball away from him.

There is a diving stop to prevent him piercing the in-field.

Foakes then whips one to leg-side for a couple of runs.

Leach would probably like to have a bowl at Mahipal Lomror.

  10. Postpublished at 15:50 BST 27 September

    Somerset 731 v Surrey 422 & 101-5

Archie Vaughan bowls with four men around the bat.

Somerset are not going to lose so, could they crowd the batters even more?

    Somerset 731 v Surrey 422 & 100-5

A Ben Foakes edge along the ground for a couple of runs brings up the Surrey 100.

    It goes barely acknowledged.

  12. Postpublished at 15:47 BST 27 September

    Somerset 731 v Surrey 422 & 98-5

A successful over for Somerset and Jack Leach.

They will feel they can get these final five wickets and there is a loud shout for lbw from the final ball of the over, but it is met with a shake of the head from the umpire.

  13. LANCASHIRE DRAW WITH DURHAMpublished at 15:45 BST 27 September
    Breaking

    Lancs 397-6 v Durham 493

Umpires Sue Redfern and Hassan Adnan have made a second pitch inspection after tea and taken the decision to abandon the game.

It means Josh Bohannon's hopes of rounding off the season with a double century have been scuppered by the weather - he ends on 190 not out.

Champions Durham go through the entire campaign unbeaten, claiming a whopping 258 points in total.

That's more than double what Lancashire mustered and they end the season in their lowest ever County Championship placing - one above Gloucestershire, who take home the wooden spoon.

    Gorantla c Overton b Leach 28 (Somerset 731 v Surrey 422 & 98-5)

    Game on.

A classic left-arm spinner's dismissal as Nik Gorantla edges Jack Leach to Craig Overton at slip.

Mahipal Lomror is out to join Ben Foakes.

  15. Postpublished at 15:43 BST 27 September

    Somerset 731 v Surrey 422 & 96-4

Ben Foakes nails a slog-sweep for four off Archie Vaughan.

With no-one in the outfield it was a relatively safe shot.

Vaughan comes around the wicket and Foakes flicks it away but there is a tumbling stop to prevent further runs.

For those who don't know much about Nikhil Gorantla, he's another graduate from the South Asian Cricket Academy to enter the first-class ranks.

Born in Cambridge, he spent some time with Essex before being picked up by Surrey and signed his first professional deal last year.

He was named for his first Championship appearance against Essex last month but substituted out of the game when Ollie Pope became available.

The batting glove is on the other fist in this game after he was drafted into the team when Dan Lawrence was called up by England.

    Somerset 731 v Surrey 422 & 91-4

Jack Leach's run of maidens ends at three but just the two runs come from the over.

Nik Gorantla and Ben Foakes continue to survive.

    There are 28 overs remaining.

  18. Postpublished at 15:37 BST 27 September

    Somerset 731 v Surrey 422 & 89-4

Just a single from the latest Archie Vaughan over.

Nik Gorantla did get a leading edge to one but it went along the ground.

Batting is far from easy out there.

  19. Postpublished at 15:34 BST 27 September

    Somerset 731 v Surrey 422 & 88-4

Just a look at that ball that rolled back into Nik Gorantla's stumps in the previous over - it hit the stumps quite hard and you might expect the bails to be disturbed but he is a very lucky young man.

Oh and Jack Leach bowls a third successive maiden.

  20. Postpublished at 15:32 BST 27 September

    Somerset 731 v Surrey 422 & 87-4

Nik Gorantla picks up another boundary with a late cut off Archie Vaughan.

Vaughan tosses the next one up and Gorantla accepts the invitation to drive for four more runs and he moves into the 20s.

The youngster almost goes to the next ball as he plays defensively and it rolls back into the stumps, hitting the base of middle but the bails stay on.

    Wow...
