Ethan Bamber's two wickets in that over have taken him to 66 in Division One this season, two clear of Hampshire's Kyle Abbott at the top of the standings.

He's been one of many key men in the Warwickshire team that is likely to be crowned county champions in the next 24 hours or so.

As an Essex fan of 60 years, whatever the rights or wrongs of other counties pitches, they deserve to go down. After seven games they were top of the table. Second half they have barely scored a bonus point. Not fit for 1st division.

    Peter, Malaga

An hour ago I said Essex might avoid the follow on by tonight. That aged well.

    Andy, Cambridge

As an Essex fan I can't remember such a dismal end to the season. Don't laugh but we've already renewed our membership. Things can only get better unless Leicestershire win their appeal.

50 up for Essexpublished at 17:14 BST 25 September

    Glamorgan 505 v Essex 53-5

Essex limp to 50 for the loss of five wickets.

It has been a horror show from the visitors in Cardiff.

Remember, Leicestershire are appealing against their deduction of 27 points so the relegation issue is far from over.

200 up for Northamptonshirepublished at 17:13 BST 25 September

    Middx 255 v Northants 103 & 200-5

After trying his hand with a bit of spin with the old ball, Ryan Higgins is back into his more accustomed medium pace role.

Saif Zaib pushes a single as Higgins strays on to the pads to bring up 200 for Northamptonshire.

    The lead stands at 48.

Two wickets in three balls for Ethan Bamber!

That's a peach of a delivery, nipping away to clip the top of Rishi Patel's off stump.

Warwickshire nudge ever closer to their first Championship title since 2021.

    Kent 353 v Glos 229 & 8-1

In the fifth over of their second innings, Tommy Boorman scores Gloucestershire's first runs with a square drive for four off Matt Milnes.

Ollie Price follows suit by opening his account with a boundary off Matt Quinn, who makes a despairing dive to his left to try and make the save.

    Gumbs lbw b Bamber 4 (Warks 372 v Leics 125 & 39-1)

Ethan Bamber makes the breakthrough for Warwickshire with his 65th Championship wicket of 2026.

From around the wicket, he traps Sheridon Gumbs lbw. Gumbs had just received treatment for an injury and is now walking back to the pavilion.

The Bears need nine more wickets.

    Middx 255 v Northants 103 & 199-5

Middlesex are offered the second new ball as we tick to 80 overs and skip Max Holden takes it immediately.

Who else but Toby Roland-Jones to get first use.

Bang on the money but Calvin Harrison plays out a maiden without alarm.

It looks pretty dark at Edgbaston, with the floodlights shining brightly.

But Sol Budinger is seeing the ball quite well - he's made 29 off 16 balls so far and Leicestershire have already taken 33 runs out of their deficit on first innings.

  12. Postpublished at 17:00 BST 25 September

    Kent 353 v Glos 229 & 0-1

Almost a repeat as Matt Quinn goes past the outside edge of Ollie Price's bat with his first delivery. Two maidens to start with by Kent.

  13. Postpublished at 17:00 BST 25 September

    Notts 251 & 42-3 v Yorks 179

Jack Haynes is beginning to find his rhythm as he helps himself to two driven boundaries from Ben Cliff's first over.

He goes to 16 and needs 36 more to get to the prestigious landmark of 1,000 Championship runs for the season.

They're going to be hard-earned out there. It remains pretty gloomy.

  14. Lawrence gets England callpublished at 16:59 BST 25 September

    Somerset 204-3 v Surrey 422

Dan Lawrence made a century in the Surrey first innings and picked-up a wicket as well but his time at Taunton is done.

He has been called into the England squad for Sunday's ODI against Sri Lanka.

Nikhil Gorantla will replace him in the Surrey side.

    Middx 255 v Northants 103 & 194-5

Ryan Higgins thinks he has Saif Zaib trapped in front here but the umpire does not agree.

The Northants batter gets down to sweep a ball which turns a lot and hits the back pad in front.

Perhaps doing too much? It looked a good shout.

Much of Northamptonshire's hopes lie on Zaib's shoulders.

    Somerset 200-3 v Surrey 422

A gentle single for Tom Abell who moves to 49 not out and brings up the Somerset 200.

Surrey have not been helped by not being able to bowl their Indian leg-spinner Rahul Chahar because of illness.

Ralphie Albert has now replaced him in the game.

  20. Play abandoned for day at Old Traffordpublished at 16:54 BST 25 September

    Lancashire 10-0 v Durham 493

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

The umpires have taken the decision to knock this one on the head rather early and it hasn't gone down well with some of the spectators in the ground.

The players left the field at 16:20 BST and the announcement came 25 minutes later. It is gloomy and the covers are now being put back on the square. The lights have been on since midday as well.

So, Lancashire will resume their first innings tomorrow on 10-0 after earlier bowling Durham out for 493.

35 overs have been lost today. They will try to recover eight of those tomorrow, if the weather and the light play ball.
