No single from the first ball this time for Joe Root - he's out caught in the covers off Sachindu Colombage instead.

He offers a bit of fielding practice for Pavan Rathnayake, who doesn't have to move and can simply take the catch above his head.

    Here comes Will Jacks.

I think Jos Buttler is going to keep positive.

He is always looking to hit the ball over the bowler's head.

That is what gets him going. The timing of Buttler. It was on his hip, and it was there for one or two runs, but he timed it so well.

  3. Eng 203-3published at 28 overs

For the third over in a row, Joe Root takes a single and Jos Buttler sets to take taking boundaries from the remaining deliveries.

The England wicketkeeper guides the penultimate ball from Asitha Fernando through mid-wicket, beating the fielder on the rope, then edges wide of Kusal Mendis for another four.

Jos Buttler has done his percentage play.

The pressure is on the bowler, Sachindu Colombage.

Buttler has changed the momentum of the game for England.

  7. Eng 194-3published at 27 overs

Sachindu Colombage's next delivery is down the leg side and Jos Buttler helps the ball on its way for four.

A dot ball finishes the over, but England still take 17 runs from it.

16 of them are Buttler's - he moves to 33 from 17 deliveries.

Brilliant from Jos Buttler. He has his focused eyes.

You can see it in his body language.

    Rinse and repeat.

Same area for Jos Buttler, same result, a second six off this Sachindu Colombage over.

Not quite as clean as the previous shot, but he got enough power on it.

  10. 6 runs

    Eng 184-3published at 26.2 overs

    Down the ground again!

Jos Buttler takes on Sachindu Colombage this time, clearing the ropes at long-off from an over-pitched delivery.

Once again England are desperately trying to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Run a ball. Boundary every over or two. Root is just the man for this. Hopefully someone will stay with him.

Jeeez, Jos Buttler smoked that to the covers. Buttler has opened up the off side so easily.

Buttler's theory in 50-over cricket is to try to get to 20 as quickly as you can. Then he feels like the pressure is off him.

Four and six to end the over!

Jos Buttler takes on Dunith Wellalage, slamming the spinner through the covers and then clearing the ropes at long-on.

11 runs off the over, Wellalage had only conceded 17 from his first four.

  14. Eng 166-3published at 25 overs

    Not wonderful from Kamindu Mendis.

Jos Buttler gets on top of a Dilshan Maduashanka bouncer and pulls the ball out to the mid-wicket boundary.

Kamindu slides to collect but manages to let the ball through for four - not what you want to be doing in front of the fearsome Western Terrace.

We've reached the halfway mark - Sri Lanka was 159-1 at this stage.

  15. How's stat?!published at 18:27 BST 24 September

Dunith Wellalage has bowled 5mph slower on average so far today (49 mph) compared to in Durham (54 mph).

You have to play well to score over 300.

England started well, and they had taken the game from Sri Lanka, but it shows how quickly this game will come back to bite you when you don't respect it.

  17. Eng 158-3published at 24 overs

Ooooh, spun past the outside edge.

Dunith Wellalage sends a peach of a delivery and Jos Buttler is beaten from his first delivery.

The England wicketkeeper gets going two balls later with a cut into the covers.

Meanwhile England's WinViz chances have dropped from 75% in the previous over to 63%.

It's a really nice piece of bowling.

Harry Brook playing the defensive shot and beating him on the inside.

I have not seen Brook miss a ball like that before, with the way he has been playing.

    Gone.

Ball-tracking has a strike on the top of leg stump - Harry Brook is sent on his way for just one.

Jos Buttler comes in with England having lost 3-14 from 24 deliveries - all of those wickets going to Dunith Wellalage.

Sri Lanka are celebrating like this will be overturned and they will get the wicket.
