Slower delivery and Madushanka hit it a long way in the sky. Very easily taken, England have had an easy day.

  3. wicket

Madushanka c Brook b Baker 0 (SL 124 all out)

There you go. After four painful dot balls, Dilshan Madushanka skies a catch to mid-off, meaning Sonny Baker finishes with 2-17 and Sri Lanka are bowled out with seven balls unused.

  4. SL 124-9published at 18.3 overs

Sonny Baker won't get many better chances for an international wicket. These two tailenders don't look up to much.

The dismissals have been unbelievably soft. They've found strange ways of getting out from the start.

  6. How's stat?!published at 16:00 BST 19 September

Since the start of 2025, 41% of Jamie Overton's deliveries have been behind 8.5m in length, an increase from 25% in 2023-2024. Coming to his pace, he has bowled 53% of his deliveries over 87mph in 2026, compared to just 20% in 2025.

  7. SL 124-9published at 18 overs

Nuwan Thushara is jumping away to square leg as Jofra Archer fires down the final ball of his over. Sri Lanka have been really poor again.

No-one noticed, not even the fielders! One hand off the bat, just touching the wicket and removing one bail.

  9. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 17.5 overs

Hasaranga hit wicket b Archer (SL 124-9)

This sums it up. Wanindu Hasanraga hits his own stumps with his bat while having a wild swipe to Jofra Archer.

    Archer doesn't even celebrate.

Hasaranga needed the strike, but really well done from Liam Dawson, swooping and throwing across his body.

  11. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 17.2 overs

Malinga run out Dawson 0 (SL 120-8)

England can do no wrong. Liam Dawson swoops in from extra cover and fires down the stumps with a direct hit.

Sri Lanka have lost four wickets for 13 runs.

  12. SL 119-7published at 17 overs

Eshan Malinga does not exude much batting confidence as he pokes at Jamie Overton's last ball. Overton finishes with 1-15. Impressive.

A disappointing innings for Rathnayake, a missed opportunity for him. He's considered an all-rounder, but he's not shown anything with the bat.

  14. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 16.5 overs

    Rathnayake b Overton 3 (SL 119-7)

And now a deserved wicket for Jamie Overton as Tharindu Rathnayake gets an inside edge onto his stumps. Sri Lanka are being outclassed again.

  15. SL 117-6published at 16 overs

New batters Tharindu Rathnayake and Wanindu Hasaranga are smirking towards each other after a nothing mix-up over the running. On this occasion they stutter but get home.

Archer's second over goes for only three - an improvement on his 15-run first effort.

A nothing shot. His weight's on the front foot, Mendis is not in a position to play that pull shot, it's more of a pick-up shot he's trying to play. This is what really disappoints me, that England aren't really having to do anything extra.

  17. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 15.1 overs

    Mendis c Jacks b Archer 35 (SL 114-6)

    He liked it...

Just as I was giving him that build-up, Kamindu Mendis pulls the returning Jofra Archer to deep-ish mid-wicket.

Sri Lanka batters have made starts today but have been unable to go on.

  18. SL 114-5published at 15 overs

Kamindu Mendis scored a century at Old Trafford when he went on that run of three tons in three Tests against England in 2024. He likes it.

That sat up. Overton's length has been quite predictable, this was a slower one into the pitch that allowed Mendis to play that shot.

  20. SL 113-5published at 14.3 overs

Ooo shot. No-one has got after Jamie Overton today but this bouncer, one that's not quite high enough, is pulled for six by Kamindu Mendis.
