Harry Brook got it way too close to Hasaranga. He knew he was in trouble once he set off for that single.

Brook run out (Hasaranga) 34 (Eng 107-2)

The skipper falls before the close.

Harry Brook nudges Wanindu Hasaranga's delivery into the leg side and sets off for a quick single.

The spinner collects sharply and throws down the non-striker's stumps, dismissing Brook with a direct hit.

    Target 125

    Oh dear.

One more off side wide from Dilshan Madushanka and then another one down the leg side goes away for five runs - that's England's century up.

A 10-ball over from the seamer.

Remember, England are still missing Phil Salt and Jacob Bethell.

  5. Eng 95-1published at 7.3 overs

A wide from Dilshan Madushanka is reclassified as a no ball after an over-step is spotted - Harry Brook takes two in the covers off the free hit.

The Sri Lanka seamer then bangs a ball that's so short it doesn't pass the wide line.

His next bumper is a little better and Harry Brook sends a top-edge spiralling, but neither wicketkeeper Kamil Mishara nor the fielder at backward point claim it definitively and the ball drops between the two of them.

Brook has had his problems against leg-spin but he seems to have found a way to score runs against them now.

  7. Eng 88-1published at 7 overs

    Target 125

Four singles and closing dot in the rest of Wanindu Hasaranga's over.

The quietest over of the innings by some distance.

These two make it look so easy with the options they take and their clarity under pressure.

  9. Eng 84-1published at 6.1 overs

Spinner Wanindu Hasaranga into the attack now we're out of the powerplay.

Jos Buttler sends the over's opening delivery out to the point ropes, where Lahiru Udara does some good work to tip the ball away from the boundary.

"The best thing they've done all day," says my colleague Matthew Henry.

The quickest England have chased a score over 100 in T20s is 9.4 overs. That chase of 116 was against USA in Barbados at the 2024 T20 World Cup.

Sri Lanka haven't done the basics well enough. England have been really good - it's really good to see how they have taken the game on.

  12. Eng 82-1published at 6 overs

    Target 125

A fifth four for Jos Buttler, turning Eshan Malinga through backward square.

Three wides in the over from Malinga don't help matters for his team, who have essentially lost the game by the end of the powerplay.

I am not sure how much bowling with both arms matters on flat wickets. If the ball isn't turning it makes no difference. When the ball is turning the benefit is that you can take the ball away in both directions.

  18. Eng 66-1published at 5 overs

    Target 125

One more four in the over for Jos Buttler, whipping Tharindu Rathnayake through backward square.

Harry Brook then gets in on the act, making room and launching the ball through the covers for a one-bounce boundary.

20 runs off the over and England are already halfway to their target.

That is such a good shot from Jos Buttler. The bowler hasn't done much wrong. Where do you go from there? He now knows he can't hit the top of off stump, which is what you are told to do.

  20. Eng 56-1published at 4.3 overs

Jos Buttler hasn't had much of the strike in this innings, but he gets motoring here.

The England opener twice hits Tharindu Rathnayake through the covers for four, either side of seeing a ball drop just short of the mid-wicket ropes, taking two on that occasion.

The first of those boundaries brought up England's half-century.
