Liam Dawson going to his defensive options. He's gone to the short and wide option to stop the right-handed bowler hitting with the wind. Clever bowling, although Dasun Shanaka might consider himself a little unlucky getting an under-edge.

  2. wicket

    Shanaka c Buttler b Dawson 12 (SL 107-5)

Good comeback. Straight after being whacked for six, Liam Dawson throws it down wider. Dasun Shanaka gets an under-edge and Jos Buttler takes a smart catch.

Shanaka has got the power. He's probably the most powerful hitter in the Sri Lankan team and he got the ball exactly where he wanted.

    SL 107-4published at 13.5 overs

A rare poor ball from Liam Dawson - a shin-high full toss - is pumped over mid-wicket by Dasun Shanaka. The Sri Lanka fans in the crowd like that one.

England have still fielded pretty well even with that drop...

  6. SL 99-4published at 13 overs

The outfield had already looked slow after a lot of morning rain. That slip hints at why.

Old Trafford has had drainage issues before.

Three runs from another impressive Jamie Overton over.

Tom Banton had done all the hard work but he just slipped at the last minute. It was almost like a two-footed tackle, he didn't even touch the ball in the end.

  8. dropped catch

    SL 96-4published at 12 overs

    Oh dear!

Tom Banton moves towards a regulation catch at long-off but at the crucial moment he slips. He ends up flat on his back on the greasy surface.

It's wet down there in front of the dressing rooms in particular.

  9. SL 92-4published at 11.5 overs

These two, Kamindu Mendis and former skipper Dasun Shanaka, may be Sri Lanka's last chance of a competitive score.

Harry Brook has a slip in for new batter Shanaka but after he gets off strike Mendis reverse hits Adil Rashid over third for four.

  10. SL 87-4published at 11 overs

    Mendis 18, Shanaka 1

The call wasn't great, the fact the striker didn't move was poor. Even Charlith Asalanka's dive could have been better.

    Poor cricket all round.

It almost felt like Jacks had missed the stumps, the bails took a time to fall off. It was Asalanka's call, the striker didn't have any interest in that run. A really good throw from Adil Rashid.

  12. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 10.3 overs

Asalanka run out (Rashid) 13 (SL 84-4)

It's out! The confusion between the batters resulted in Charith Asalanka being sent back and an accurate throw from Adil Rashid did the job. Will Jacks wasn't initially convinced but the Sri Lanka captain is short by a yard.

Asalanka is short of his ground here...

Is this a run-out? I'm not sure Will Jacks even broke the stumps cleanly...

You thought something had to give with Asalanka, he was chewing up balls. You have to say that's a really good shot.

    SL 80-3published at 10.1 overs

That energy drink has, indeed, done the trick for Charlith Asanlaka. He heaves Will Jacks over wide long-on immediately after the break.

Asalanka needs to get his intent up - all the other batters have tried to take the game on.

  18. drinks break

    Drinks - SL 74-3published at 10 overs

Three from Jamie Overton's first over of seamers banged in front his height. Charith Asalanka has taken 12 balls to get to seven. That's something for him to think about over his energy drink.
