I’m a big fan of James Rew. You would think this series would have been a good way to get him used to Test cricket in a climate where you would expect England to win? Especially when Smith is under pressure and Cox probably subbing out for Bethell in SA?

It's looking very difficult out there for Pakistan at the moment. Full credit to England, they've kept it very consistent.

  3. Pak 4-1published at 2 overs

Shan Masood is immediately off the mark, flicking Jofra Archer fine for four. Pakistan are up and running, but they need another 234 runs to even level the scores.

Might be time to start coming up with more activities around Leeds for Tobias (@ 11:06), whose day four ticket feels in real jeopardy.

It's almost come off the outside edge of the bat, Imam-ul-Haq doesn't drop low enough.

Day four is a long way off for Pakistan.

A short one from Jofra Archer, just a little brush of the glove through to Jamie Smith.

It's looking pretty bleak for Pakistan.

    Imam-ul-Haq c Smith b Archer 0 (Pak 0-1)

Short from Jofra Archer and Imam-ul-Haq, bending backwards, can't get his gloves out of the way. Simple catch for Jamie Smith behind the stumps.

The batter shrugs and walks off for a five-ball duck.

There's still plenty of seam movement out there. But, the overheads are perfect for what you'd want as a batter.

Calm leaving and blocking from Azan Awais. Maiden.

This is the worst I've seen Pakistan in my time. I hope they show a huge amount of fight and comeback. That's what Pakistan cricket is all about.

They've got players who can hold the bat, they just lack a bowling attack.

  11. Pak 0-0published at 0.2 overs

A confidence booster for Azan Awais. He leaves the opening delivery of Pakistan's second innings well alone before pressing forward and defending solidly.

England will be delighted with their first two and bit days of work. It's all about Pakistan now, can they show some spirit with the bat in hand? Can one or two players get into the surface and go big?

It's a long way off, I would say to them, go and get into day four.

Ollie Robinson will once again take the new ball for England.

    Azan Awais takes strike.

The players are back out in the middle. Pakistan trail England by 238 runs.

Nervy moments for Pakistan opener Azan Awais. He fell to the first ball of the series, bowled by Ollie Robinson.

There's plenty out there, we saw it yesterday with the old ball, Muhammad Abbas was moving it around.

If England can get their lengths right, they can create some chances.

Here's a reminder of how Ollie Robinson and Josh Tongue dealt with Pakistan's batters in the first innings.

They took 5-51 and 5-46, respectively, and were rewarded with half a match ball each.

Will the Headingley groundstaff need to get their saw out again at the conclusion of Pakistan's second innings, I wonder?

Still very early days and hard to call. But personally I'd be leaning towards Cox than Smith for the gloves role. Smith has been very frustrating to watch bat recently. Gives his wicket away way too often.

Is it too soon to say that Jordan Cox could be challenging Jamie Smith for a spot in future Test sides?

Four half-centuries - Jordan Cox (73), Joe Root (66), Harry Brook (91), and Dan Lawrence (51) - and a handy late cameo from Jofra Archer (23*) as England post 409 in reply to Pakistan's 171.

England added 43 runs to their overnight score of 366-8.
