    Somerset 469 v Essex 123-5

A 78-ball half-century for Matt Critchley with six fours and a six, who surely simply must now go on and make a big hundred if Essex are to get back in this game.

  3. Tea at Northwoodpublished at 16:09 BST 21 August

    Middlesex 147-8 v Kent 350

That wicket of Zafar Gohar sparks the tea break at Merchant Taylors' School after a glorious session of seven wickets for Kent.

Five wickets for Matt Milnes in the innings and three for fellow Matt, Quinn, have put them in total control.

Middlesex are 203 behind and could well be batting for a second time this evening.

  4. Postpublished at 16:09 BST 21 August

    Derbys 1-0 v Durham 283

Steady start for Derbys Caleb Jewell on 1 and Harry Came yet to score from 11 deliveries.

  5. Tea at Cheltenhampublished at 16:07 BST 21 August

    Glos 150 v Worcs 122-3

Comparatively slow stuff at the Festival compared to some of the other matches, but Worcestershire are putting in the hard yards to set up the game.

They only trail by 27 thanks to Rehaan Edavalath's unbeaten fifty, and with wickets in hand, they will expect to build up a good lead over Division Two's bottom side.

  6. Tea at Edgbastonpublished at 16:06 BST 21 August

    Warks 111-8 v Sussex 156

This is a pretty silly game at Edgbaston so far with 18 wickets going down in just 85 overs.

Warwickshire scrap their way through to tea Michael Booth, 13, and Ethan Bamber 3, but need more from their lower order to try and get on terms.

Sean Hunt superb for Sussex with 4-18.

  7. Tea at Leicesterpublished at 16:05 BST 21 August

    Leicestershire 151 v Glamorgan 117-8

There's a battle on for the first innings honours at Grace Road as 11 wickets have fallen on day two so far.

Glamorgan might be said to have recovered a bit, having been 55-6 at one stage.

No batter has managed more than 23 so far but Mason Crane has a chance to be the first as he goes into tea on that mark.

The session has belonged to Ben Mike who's taken 4-28 in his nine overs.

  8. Five-wicket haul for Matt Milnespublished at 16:04 BST 21 August

    Gohar lbw b Milnes 1 (Middlesex 147-8 v Kent 350)

Oh, Matt Milnes is having an afternoon to savour.

A fifth wicket for him as coming round the wicket to left-hander Zafar Gohar, he thuds one into the pads.

Little doubt about that one and Milnes has 5-34 to drive home Kent's advantage.

  9. wicket

WICKETpublished at 16:03 BST 21 August

    Thain lbw b Leach 10 (Somerset 469 v Essex 117-5)

Noah Thain had clipped Jake Ball for four to long leg before driving Migael Pretorius sweetly past mid-off.

But then he falls lbw to Jack Leach, playing back when he should have been forward and misses a straight delivery to be caught plumb in front.

  10. Tea at Old Traffordpublished at 16:02 BST 21 August

    Lancashire v Northants 248-7

A super effort of 66 not out from George Bartlett is leading Northants into a very good position as they head off for a cuppa.

Northants are close to a first batting point as they have recovered from 92-5 and 134-6 thanks to Bartlett and Lewis McManus' 47.

Plenty of head scratching for Lancashire about how to quickly end this innings.

  11. 50 runs

50 for Rehaan Edavalathpublished at 15:59 BST 21 August

    Glos 150 v Worcs 122-3

Only a substitute for this game, but Rehaan Edavalath is making a fine contribution for Worcestershire.

It's a second half-century for the 22-year-old as he patiently compiles the runs to inch the Pears towards parity and beyond, with 10 fours so far in his knock.

  12. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:57 BST 21 August

van der Gugten LBW Patel 11 (Glam 116-8 v Leics 151)

In a match where the ball has done all sorts for the seamers, spinner Ajaz Patel strikes in his first over.

The delivery may not have done much but it traps Timm van der Gugten LBW.

    Glamorgan still 35 runs behind.

  13. Tea at Derbypublished at 15:57 BST 21 August

    Derbys v Durham 283

The innings break has coincided with the arrival of the cake trolley at the County Ground with play set to resume in a few minutes.

  14. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:56 BST 21 August

    Jani c Haines b Unadkat 14 (Warks 104-8 v Sussex 156)

Warwickshire are doing their best to claw their way a little nearer to what seemed like a paltry Sussex total - but now seems very competitive indeed.

But then they lose another as Vansh Jani's resistance ends.

He'd scrapped it out for 40 balls but then aims a big drive at Jaydev Unadkat and is very well caught at second slip at shoulder height. That was travelling.

  15. Tea at Southamptonpublished at 15:56 BST 21 August

    Hants 197 v Yorks 173

A 24-run lead, even in a low scoring game, is not a match-winner in itself but Hants will be pleased enough to have their noses in front at the halfway mark.

Some lower order hitting from Felix Organ (24) and Ben Brown (23) got them there but Yorks won't be too downhearted given they have last use with the ball of a pitch that will surely deteriorate more.

  16. wicket

HANTS ALL OUT FOR 197published at 15:52 BST 21 August

    Organ c Bess b Coad 24 (Hants 197 v Yorks 173)

Felix Organ goes for an expansive slog into the onside and it skies up off the leading edge and is bagged by Dom Bess coming in at mid-on.

That ends his innings on a useful lower order 24 and the Hants' reply on 197, a 24-run lead.

  17. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:49 BST 21 August

    Higgins b Milnes 33 (Middlesex 133-7 v Kent 350)

Kent are dominating at Merchant Taylor's School with bat and Matt.

It's now 4-3 for Matt Milnes over Matt Quinn as he produces another ripper.

Ryan Higgins decides to leave, but it jags back sharply to crash into his off-stump.

The hosts are reeling and are also 68 adrift of the follow-on target.

  18. SURREY ALL OUT FOR 162published at 15:46 BST 21 August

    Surrey 162 v Nottinghamshire 184

A first innings lead of 22 for Notts as Olly Stone sends Tom Lawes off stump cart wheeling spectacularly out of the ground, Lawes gone for 18.

It's a sixth wicket for Olly Stone who has been outstanding.

The conditions are favourable to the bowlers but Stone has been a constant threat, never letting the batters settle and he ends with figures of 6-44.

Surrey may not agree right now but it's great to see Stone back after he missed nearly all of last season.

Tea is being taken before Notts start their second innings.

  19. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:46 BST 21 August

    McManus c Harris b Noman 47 (Lancashire v Northants 225-7)

Minutes after his countrymen have lost the first Test to England, Pakistan left-armer Noman Ali has his first Lancashire wicket.

A well-flighted delivery from round the wicket tempts Lewis McManus and he edges it into the palms of slip.

Still a very valuable knock from the Northants wicketkeeper who added 91 with George Bartlett.

  20. 6 runs

Postpublished at 15:45 BST 21 August

    Surrey 160-9 v Notts 184

Tom Lawes, who took five wickets in the Notts innings, slog sweeps Patterson-White for the first six of the Surrey innings.
