    Breakthrough for Somerset!

    The hundred partnership had come up in 121 balls with Paul Walter and Matt Critchley trying to take the game back to Somerset.

    Walter had thumped Jake Ball through mid-on to move to 48 but two balls later goes to whip him leg side and finds Jack Leach at midwicket.

    A very tame end and Essex back in huge trouble.

    Still no batter has got beyond 23 in this game.

    Sean Dickson falls to an excellent diving catch from Sheridon Gumbs to give Ben Mike his fourth wicket.

    It ends the biggest partnership of the match so far, they added 42.

    A wild swing outside off-stump from Callum Parkinson and he edges Anuj Dal behind to Brooke Guest.

    And that is the end of the Durham innings, 17 short of a second batting point.

    Surrey 153-9 v Nottinghamshire 184

    Surrey's lower order hasn't been able to match that of Notts who added 80 for their final two wickets.

    But the away side have at least reached the 150 landmark as their number 11 Dan Worrall plays a typically flamboyant shot to get a four.

    Ben Aitchison again with one that straightens slightly and beats the outside edge of Matthew Potts.

    It's five wickets for the Derbyshire bowler who has 5-70 from 28 overs.

    George Hill strikes again, pinning Kyle Abbott lbw to give himself a five-wicket haul (5-27).

    A fifth wicket since lunch for Notts who are one strike away from securing a first innings lead.

    Josh Blake, who substituted the injured Ryan Patel in this game, gets a slight edge to be caught behind and gives spinner Liam Patterson-White his first wicket.

    Three wickets for Matt Milnes and now three for Matt Quinn.

    Middlesex are being Matted by their visitors.

    Quinn gets a bit of extra bounce that troubles Joe Cracknell and he edges behind off the back foot.

    A stand of 59 between him and Ryan Higgins is broken.

    Mitch Stanley is back into the attack and George Bartlett steers one down to backward point for four.

    That takes him past 50 off exactly 100 balls thanks to his seventh boundary.

    From 92-4, he has helped Northants into a position of relative strength with this partnership between him and Lewis McManus now worth 74.

    With Finlay Bean standing up to the stumps, Andrew Neal is caught between a rock and a hard place to anything pitched perfectly.

    The Hants batter plays inside the line and the top of off-stump is pinged.

    And then Chris Woakes goes first ball!

    Full delivery that he tries to whip to leg but gets a leading edge and is taken easily at extra-cover.

    Sean Hunt on a hat-trick! But Michael Booth survives!

    Hunt now has 4-18 in six overs and Sussex could take a lead here.

    Ryan Higgins whips away a lovely on-drive from Ekansh Singh and that fairly races away across the Merchant Taylors outfield.

    It is also the 50 partnership between him and Joe Cracknell as Middlesex try to work their way back into the game.

    A long way to go, though.

    Another for Sussex and it's Sean Hunt again.

    Alex Davies was the beneficiary of four overthrows but then Hunt finds an edge into the cordon.

    It's the shoulder of the bat to second slip as Hunt finds a bit of bounce. But on the angle, Davies probably could have left it alone.

    This game is moving on nicely now after a frustrating first day of rain and delay.

    Brydon Carse took on a hook from Brett Randell and has feathered it through to Brooke Guest behind the stumps, the keeper taking a good tumbling catch.

    Durham have two wickets still standing and, for starters, a second batting point in sight.

  15. Somerset 469 v Essex 77-3

    A long way to go and little margin for error having lost three wickets so early but Essex are working their way back into the day.

    Paul Walter has crashed Migael Pretorius off the back foot for four through cover-point before tucking Jake Ball through midwicket for his sixth boundary.

    The scoring rate remains very healthy as Somerset continue to attack with so many runs on the board. All round entertaining cricket at Taunton.

    Say it quietly but Glamorgan might actually be building a partnership here.

    Two experienced batters who played in The Hundred, Sean Dickson and Mason Crane have added 27 for the seventh wicket so far.

    This looks like a low-scoring pitch where every run will be crucial and Hants now have three wickets in the tank to build an advantage at the halfway mark.

    Yorks and George Hill have a new ball in their hand and two slips as they try to limit the damage.

    We may have lost 58 overs to the weather yesterday but this game is certainly rattling along today.

    Ben Aitchison has just taken his fourth wicket of the first Durham innings. He bowled Ollie Robinson for 28 moments ago and has 4-69 so far.

    At CLS earlier this year he took a five-for and looks set to do the same again.

    Graham Clark has been the top-scorer of the innings, but he was caught off Aitchison at the end of the first over with the new ball. He edged to Caleb Jewell at second slip and departed on 64.

    Earlier Ben Stokes made 53 and Alex Lees 63. There have been starts but nobody has managed to turn them into big runs so far.

    There's still plenty of action to come. It's a 104-over day and we still have 55 overs left to bowl.

    Ben Aitchison has been the clear pick of the Derbys bowlers and that was just about his best yet, firing one through the airy drive of Ollie Robinson and sending wood in all directions.

    It is a beautifully pitched delivery, with the Durham man unsure whether to go back or forward. He does neither really and looks accusingly at the wicket.

    Dillon Pennington strikes Jordan Clark on the back pad and it's a clear LBW.

    It's some collapse this from Surrey. They were looking pretty good at 84-2 and Rory Burns may be reflecting on his rather soft dismissal at that point which started the rot.
