Essex would have been happy enough at around 12.30, having taken four of the five Somerset wickets they needed at the start and denied them a fourth batting point.

But they'll have been much less happy when they went into a belated lunch 48 minutes later, James Rew and Migael Pretorius having put together a last wicket partnership of 72 to shift this game significantly in Somerset's direction.

Pretorius, whose batting average for the season before this game was a meagre 5.5, was a revelation, whilst Rew stuck to his guns, despite not being in anything like his best form.

The pitch is offering some help for both seam and spin, and Somerset will be fancying their chances of keeping Essex to below the follow-on target of 320.

We’re heading for a low-scoring game at Leicester on a strangely-cut pitch of uneven bounce.

Kiwi seamer Ray Toole ended with 3-48 as the Foxes’ last three wickets added just 38 runs.

But the home bowlers were quickly in the money as Ian Holland had Zain Ul Hassan edging to slip and Josh Hull had a frustrated Kiran Carlson caught behind slashing at a wide delivery.

The pitch is providing mental as well as practical challenges, and I’d be surprised if we’re here on Sunday.

Kevin, we think there are probably followers of 17 other teams who would contest this title!

An entertaining morning at Derby has just tipped the hosts' way with Durham losing three top-order wickets for 103.

Alex Lees (53) and Ben Stokes, with a most entertaining if not chanceless knock of 53 in just 60 balls with 11 fours, have added momentum to the Durham total.

After losing all but 16 balls of the first two sessions yesterday, it was sensible batting from Stokes trying to push the game along.

The bowlers are very much on top in the glorious Cheltenham College setting.

Gloucestershire eked their way to 150, hindered by Ben Allison's career-best 5-19 in nearly 18 overs of parsimony.

The wicket of Dan Lategan offers them some comfort at lunch, but Worcestershire will expect to go past that total at some point later today.

Max Holden and Luke Hollman have added 41 so far for the second wicket after the early loss of Sam Robson in Middlesex's reply.

They claimed 4-51 with the ball earlier on as Kent made it to 350 with Toby Roland-Jones clocking up a 36th five-wicket haul of his career.

The visitors lead by 303 but things feel nicely poised.

The morning session is extended at Taunton to see if Essex can take this final wicket.

The 10th wicket stand now worth 61 and Essex will be really feeling it after what was a good session.

It is time for a break as the first session comes to an end, with Felix Organ (0) and Ben Brown (7), and it has probably been Yorkshire's, just.

The 59 runs added, the bulk of which came in a decent partnership between Tom Prest and Nick Gubbins, have cost two wickets with Adam Lyth taking both.

Hants still trail by 54 runs.

A recovery from Northants as George Bartlett and James Sales have taken them from 92-5 with a few scares to their current position.

Ben Walkden's 3-23 from nine overs on debut is the stand-out contribution in the Lancashire attack as they claimed three wickets cheaply in the middle of the session.

Not a bad morning for the Notts bowlers but it should have been better.

They've dropped Adam Thomas twice, one a difficult chance behind, the other a relatively straightforward slip opportunity. Brett Hutton has been the unlucky bowler both times.

Thomas has taken advantage with some nice drives and he lunches on 46.

He shared in a half-century stand with Rory Burns who was watchful at times but fell to a loose shot, caught at third.

Ollie Pope was dismissed in the same Olly Stone over and this game remains very nicely balanced.

A superb morning for Warwickshire as they scythed through the Sussex middle order, taking 5-1 in three overs, to skittle them for just 156.

Chris Woakes with 4-36 and Michael Booth 3-9 in just 4.4 overs.

They've lost Zen Malik in reply but otherwise a strong start and a great chance this afternoon for the Bears to take total control of the game.

It continues to be a battle for the batters on a two-tone pitch at Leicester.

The home side managed to eke out 38 more runs for their last three wickets but Ian Holland's 23 ended up being their top score as Ray Toole finished with three wickets on his Glamorgan debut.

Holland had one success with the ball dismissing Zain ul-Hassan for a duck and just before lunch Kiran Carlson fell as Glamorgan also find runs hard to come by.

Adam Lyth was one of those Yorkshire players who were clearly incensed when Tom Prest who looked to be stranded at one end when attempting a single, turned in an arc that not only put himself between thrower and stumps but also took his return path straight down the line of the wicket.

The Yorkshire players had a point and the umpires came to together to deliberate and decided there was no infringement, not on purpose anyway.

Step forward Lyth the part time off-spinner.

Not only did he send Nick Gubbins back to the pavilion, but he’s just hit the top of Prest’s off-stump.

His celebrations for both wickets especially the latter suggested he’d just heard he’d won the lottery!!!

Derbys v Durham 205-5

Two fours off the bowling of Brett Randell and off the bat of Graham Clark moves Durham past the double hundred mark.

He moves to 26 and Ollie Robinson has eight.

It had been Essex's morning. A comeback from 312-3 yesterday to 397-9 was a good effort.

But this final wicket stand has given Somerset the ascendancy again.

A fifty stand in 58 balls with Migael Pretorius playing superbly on 34 with five fours and James Rew continuing to go well on 71.
