Summary

Have your say on England men this summer

  1. Eng 210-4published at 45 overs

    Brook 63, Lawrence 47

Blimey. Dan Lawrence is on one this morning. An extravagant flick through mid-wicket. A drive with a bit more flair through backward point. He's even catching the throws hurled back at the stumps for the Pakistan fielders.

He's scored 30 runs from 16 balls this morning.

You can see slightly different roles emerging in this England team. The role that Dan Lawrence is playing used to be played by Harry Brook.

It's like one of them is being patient and one is allowed to have a dash.

  3. Eng 201-4published at 44 overs

Dan Lawrence is another England player who could make the selectors' decisions for them with runs today.

That is the 50th partnership in just 9.4 overs.

  5. Eng 196-4published at 43.2 overs

How times have changed. Jamie Smith's fans were hidden away at the start of the summer.

Dan Lawrence adds two more boundaries, meanwhile, as Mohammad Ali fails to slide tackle the ball on the boundary. It was a poor effort.

Hope Smith's finger injury isn't too serious and keeps him out of keeping for more than the rest of this test. Statistically England's best ever keeper when looking at percentage of dropped catches. Nobody else really knocking on the door to replace him except maybe Foakes, so we need Smith.

Edgbaston is quiet - quiet enough that you can hear the limited chatter from the Pakistan fielders as Muhammad Abbas hurries in.

The stands are by no means full again. A bunch of bananas have space to stretch out in the Hollies.

These two are on their bike this morning. Good running and anytime there's anything straight they try to sneak a run.

They've slipped back into the momentum they had yesterday after the hard work at the end of the day.

  9. Eng 181-4published at 42 overs

    Brook 60, Lawrence 22

Now an edgy drive for four by Harry Brook.

Should Pakistan have another slip in? They only have two and a gully. This first hour is their chance to get back in the game.

Pakistan need to be careful here. At the end of a long tour the wheels might start to come off.

Runs are flowing and I don't know if that helps Andy in Surrey or not. Now Dan Lawrence gloves a Razaullah bouncer not too far wide of the wicketkeeper.

In response to Andy in Surrey (11:01), I'd say a rain dance is your best bet!

    Andy better pray for rain.

Two more boundaries to Dan Lawrence.

First he flicks to leg as he did in the first over but then he gets a genuine edge through the slips.

Bowler Muhammad Abbas shakes his head.

  14. England wicketkeeper Smith injures finger on day onepublished at 11:07 BST 10 September

We have a bit of news from the England camp. Wicketkeeper Jamie Smith's finger is in a splint this morning after an injury picked up on day one.

He is expected to bat in his usual position but there is no word on whether he will be able to keep in the second innings.

  15. Eng 160-4published at 40 overs

    Brook 52, Lawrence 9

Pakistan's slingy quick starts with a beauty. Dan Lawrence tries to pretend he's left the first delivery but was definitely beaten.

Lawrence gets his own back later in the over by clipping off the hip for the first runs and boundary of the day.

Razaullah has that nice slinging release. He gives people the hurry up and makes batters realise they're in a contest.

All set? Commentary in one ear at your desk? Phone hidden where those in charge can't spot you checking the score?

The players are out in the middle in the Birmingham sunshine.

Dan Lawrence is on strike and, as expected, the exciting Razaullah is going to bowl.

We've got Sarah Taylor coaching Pakistan out in the middle. She's just helping out and giving a few tips to the keeper.
