Summary

Have your say on England men this summer

  1. Eng 234-5published at 52 overs

    Lawrence 54, Smith 2

Singles apiece to Dan Lawrence and Jamie Smith after drinks nudge England's lead up and beyond 100. Smith misses one from spinner Saim Ayub. I wonder if that thumb is troubling him.

Dan Lawrence has been good on the whole this morning...

Dan Lawrence is looking a bit more uncomfortable because of the movement Mohammad Ali is bowling with.

He's trying to do everything to hit the ball but in Test cricket you can see a ball through when someone's bowling well. There's no harm in that.

  4. drinks break

    Drinks - Eng 231-5published at 12:01 BST 10 September

    Lawrence 53, Smith 0

Dan Lawrence looks a little unsettled now as Mohammad Ali starts to move the ball around a touch. Lawrence plays one wild swipe, is beaten and then deflects the ball to slip on the bounce when trying to leave.

Ali is still struggling with no-balls but he's got something going in the last 10 minutes.

His momentum is going to be halted a touch by drinks, however.

Brook is an incredibly gifted cricketer, though is his own worst enemy with the predictable brain fades.

I still can't get over that. It was a clean pick up and and accurate throw from Shan Masood but he didn't have to move far. He didn't have to hit the stumps direct either. Brook was slow to get going but Usain Bolt would have struggled to make that run.

Jamie Smith, who is struggling with an injury to his hand, joins Dan Lawrence.

Harry Brook just hits it straight to mid-wicket. Shan Masood barely had to move. Good fielding.

We saw a couple of chances yesterday that Pakistan didn't take. No century for Brook this summer.

Brook run out (Masood) 75 (Eng 229-5)

Oh Harry. Brook throws his bat in the air because he cannot believe what he has done. He's flicked the ball straight to mid-wicket and set off for a single. When the ball is collected cleanly he's run out by miles at the non-striker's end.

A hundred was there for the taking. Was it concentration? Inexplicable.

Oooof! Dan Lawrence plays a false shot for the first time in a long time as he is almost cut in half by one that nips back. It almost hits off stump and bowler Mohammad Ali thinks there's an inside edge.

His appeals are rendered irrelevant as the umpire holds out his arm to single a no-ball.

It's 51 off 47 balls with eight fours for Dan Lawrence. He has hit fifties in three consecutive matches. He never reached 50 in back-to-back games before that.

Dan Lawrence needs to go and make this score count and make three figures.

  12. 50 runs

50 for Dan Lawrencepublished at 48 overs

Dan Lawrence has batted really well this morning and now has his fifty.

It's his seventh fifty and third since his recall.

The sun is shining and the pitch flat. Can he go on to that first hundred?

Time for spin for the first time in the Test. Saim Ayub bowls a bit of everything and he's coming on now.

Pakistan haven't really looked like taking a wicket today. They have had no threat at all.

I'll tell you who will be happiest about this morning. Andy in Surrey. Harry Brook and Dan Lawrence look like they could bat all day.

  17. Eng 212-4published at 46 overs

    Brook 63, Lawrence 48

This record just needs breaking so Gilbert Jessop can rest easily. He hit England's fastest century in 76 balls in 1902 and, despite countless close shaves, still holds that record.

Lawrence has 48 from 44 balls after taking only one from this latest over.
