  1. England's victory push halted by rainpublished at 17:55 BST 10 September

Well rain has denied England a two-day victory. Had it not intervened this series may be over.

Full details of today's play, another day dominated by the hosts, is available in Stephan Shemilt's match report.

The best clips, analysis and reaction are below.

We'll be back on Friday from 10:30 BST for day three. Make sure you don't miss the start. It could be done in a hurry.

  2. Lawrence 'bitterly disappointed' not to get centurypublished at 17:53 BST 10 September

England batter Dan Lawrence: "Loving being back in the team. It's a pleasure every time you play for England. Thankfully I got a few scores. I would've liked a few more but I'm really happy to contribute again."

On whether he had a century in his sights: "Yeah, of course. Every time you get in the fifties and sixties you start thinking about it. I certainly wasn't planning on scoring quickly this morning. I got into a rhythm and me and Brooky [Harry Brook] were going really well. Thankfully it paid off.

"Bitterly disappointed to get out in the sixties. Something I've prided myself on this season is kicking on. I really wanted to push on and get a big hundred today. At the start of the day if you offered me 65 I would've taken it.

"To get 450 on the board on a pitch that was pretty tricky yesterday was a really good effort."

On if he's happy with where he is in the line-up: "I'd be happy to play and bat anywhere. I feel like number six suits me really well. It's a position that I'm more familiar with and in the knocks I've had this summer I feel like I've given it a pretty good crack."

Bowling has been good on some very friendly tracks against a very poor Pakistan side. Not sure we've learnt a lot about the team from this series as opposition has been so poor. South Africa away will show what the side's made of. Lack of 100s a concern

England are two wickets away from, on the basis of the first innings, blowing the innings away. Babar Azam has the chance to go out on a high tomorrow which would be nice to see.

When it was finally Pakistan's turn to bat, they could not have made a worse start. It summed up their tour.

Saim Ayub was flown in as one of the seven changes for this match, having not played a first-class match in almost a year.

A first-ball duck means he departs England with a pair.

Dan Lawrence followed Harry Brook for 65 but there was still time for Jamie Smith and Ollie Robinson to reach fifty as Pakistan toiled.

Smith played nicely again, as he did in the second Test at Lord's. His runs came despite a finger injury which has prevented him keeping in Pakistan's second innings.

A century looked to be at Harry Brook's mercy as he reached 75 with little worry. He carelessly ran himself out 50 minutes into the morning session, however. It means he ends the summer without a ton.

In all likelihood, this series will end without an England batter scoring a hundred.

The morning started with a flurry of runs from Dan Lawrence and Harry Brook. Any suggestion Pakistan may fight back into the Test was quickly snuffed out as the ball went to all parts.

    Lawrence played really well.

And on that note. Play has been called off for the day.

Pakistan will resume tomorrow on 52-2, still trailing by 268 runs.

The rain has eased a little but pools are starting to appear on the groundsheets either side of the pitch and behind the bowlers' run-ups so the groundstaff would need a little bit of time to get things on. We wait the inevitable call that play has been abandoned for the day.

Ollie Robinson made another stunning start with the ball but he also made his first Test half-century since February 2024 earlier.

You'd think the rain might stop in the next 10 minutes or so but all the covers are on. Action must resume at 18:08 BST for more play today.

The fifty partnership came up in 11.3 overs after being 0-2 after four balls.

It's the sixth time Pakistan have been 0-2 in their Test history and this is the second time against England. The other was on this ground in 1982. Ian Botham got both.

The groundsheets covering up the bowlers' run-ups are being brought out now. Only the die-hard optimists have remained, huddling together under whatever bit of cover they can find in the stands.

This is more significant rain now. It may be the end of the day's play but we have a little while to wait until they would call play off.

The rain has increased in its intensity. Looking out beyond the City End to the highrises in the centre of Birmingham there does not appear to be too many breaks in the clouds.

And they're going off again. The umpires have decided the rain is too heavy again. The light is poor too.

It's important from a batting point of view to remain in the present moment. Shan Masood has played a few great innings under pressure before.

They can't think about the massive target they have to try and make.
