That's the fifty partnership in exactly 10 overs.

Josh makes a good point from Bredbury. Things have settled down as Razaullah, so impressive yesterday, returns to little effect. His pace has been down on his second day of Test cricket.

Lawrence going on the charge when Brook is with him, and then slowing down with the new batter shows a decent awareness that other batters could learn from!

Dan Lawrence will rarely win an award for his batting elegance but is fidgeting and lurching his way towards the 70s.

Ian Bell is watching on from the stands. That's a man I'd watch all day.

We haven't even got Jessop Watch to get enthused by anymore and it is showing.

Daw Lawrence defends his 76th delivery, leaving old Gilbert to rest easy for a while longer.

In 25 balls Smith has outscored all but one of the Pakistan batters.

The sun breaks back out as the Mohammad Ali v Jamie Smith tussle resumes. Ali is bowling some good stuff but the no-balls remain. Now he throws in a bouncer that's way over Smith's head and is called a wide.

In 14 balls Smith has outscored all but two of the Pakistan batters.

    Chris, Manchester

Careful! A wry smile appears on Jamie Smith's face as Saim Ayub bowls one that barely bounces. Smith just gets his bat down on it.

On Sky, meanwhile, Eoin Morgan has just been delivered a birthday cake to celebrate his 40th. That probably tells you the cricket is not the most competitive.

  10. Eng 258-5published at 55.2 overs

England have decided Sam Ayub's spin is there to be hit. Dan Lawrence clatters him over long-on now.

  11. How's stat?!published at 12:21 BST 10 September

Mohammad Ali has bowled 26 deliveries over the 85mph mark so far in this Test, he bowled just 23 deliveries over 85mph across the opening two Tests.

    Lawrence 55, Smith 21

We think it's Jamie Smith's right hand that's the problem and it comes off the bat here as he plays a defensive poke and then a flick to a leg-side delivery from Mohammad Ali. The latter zips away for four. We might have to switch our Jessop watch to Smith before long.

  13. How's stat?!published at 12:18 BST 10 September

Since his debut Harry Brook has been involved in five run outs in Test cricket as either the striker or non-striker, only Virat Kohli (six times) has been involved in more run outs.

Encouraged by that lusty blow, Jamie Smith repeats the shot but hits this one flatter. It takes a bounce before thudding into the advertising boards.

Good from Smith. England are going at six runs per over this morning.

Jamie Smith couldn't lay a bat on the seamers but that's the Smith we know. It was a six the moment it left his bat.

  16. 6 runs

    Eng 241-5published at 53.2 overs

Nice. Having struggled through that previous over, Jamie Smith lofts Saim Ayub with ease over long-on.

  17. Eng 234-5published at 53 overs

The ball tracking says that would have bounced over by an inch at most. Good decision by the umpire and a good decision not to review from Babar. Fair play.

That came off Jamie Smith's back leg and dropped short of the keeper. It's probably just going over.

Jamie Smith has been really tentative. He's really uncertain at the minute. I used to think he had an aura when he came out to bat but he doesn't seem to have that at the minute.

  19. Eng 234-5published at 12:11 BST 10 September

Wowsers! This is a brilliant delivery from Mohammad Ali which hits Jamie Smith on the back pad.

Ali wants a review. Babar Azam shakes his head. I want to see that one again.

England are so careless as a batting unit. The top sides like Australia and South Africa would never suffer a careless and needless run out when on top in the game.
