If Gloucestershire win today and beat Lancashire this week, Lancashire could finish bottom of championship for the first time in history. Utterly embarrassing

    Paul, Manchester

I hope that there is no silly declaration from Gloucestershire again today. Take the points for a draw rather than lose badly chasing the unlikeliest of wins

Matt Milnes has been brought into the Kent attack in the last few moments in a bid to shake things up a bit.

He's been a handful this match and tests out Brett D'Oliveira with a short, sharp one but the Pears skipper gets into the perfect position immediately and pulls it away to mid-wicket straight out the screws.

    Bang.

    It's a 10th four. He's up to 75.

    And just like that...

Henry Cullen has gone. So has his leg stump.

Kent will hope that signals the door wide enough to fully open.

    Kent 238 & 358 v Worcestershire 217 & 200-4

Worcestershire creep up to 200 as they start the afternoon session with the desire to very much repeat what they did this morning.

If they can, then saving the game is a real prospect.

  6. Essex fight hard but fall short against Sussexpublished at 13:04 BST 5 September

    Essex 177 & 281 v Sussex 275 & 230 - Sussex win by 47 runs

    Nick Gledhill
    BBC Essex

Essex fought hard this morning in search of the 132 further runs they needed but, as always seemed likely, their dramatic first innings batting collapse proved decisive.

Matt Critchley, stranded on 19 in the first innings, got more support in the second with Shane Snater’s 35 off 45 balls giving the visitors some concern. Critchley was last to go, four short of his century. He could not have done more.

Sussex are now the only side in what may be termed mid-table obscurity. They won’t mind that. What they have achieved this season has been admirable in the circumstances.

Essex are now in the relegation pack just above Leicestershire. Short of an overseas player, an injury crisis has compounded their problems. They now go to Headingley for a vital clash against Yorkshire.

    Notts 451-8 dec v Leics 361-9

A remarkable first session on the final day comes to an end in Nottingham.

The hosts looked set to enforce the follow-on when they had Leicestershire 259-9 early on, but Tom Scriven and Josh Davey took them past the target of 302 and have since stretched their last-wicket stand to 102.

The Foxes trail by 90 and it's game safe.

Not sure what I've just witnessed this morning. A thoroughly entertaining game but 13 wickets in the session wraps up an emphatic win for Durham. Chahal took 9 wickets in the game but is outshone today (or should that be out spun) by Callum Parkinson's 6-20.

Josh Davey cuts a rank long-hop from part-time spinner Jack Haynes for four and that's the century stand with Tom Scriven.

    Davey moves up to 46.

Leicestershire's highest 10th-wicket stand is 122 - shared by Lewis Hill and Callum Parkinson against Kent in 2017.

That's in danger the way Tom Scriven and Josh Davey are batting. They look untroubled in a stand of 95.

What a knock this has been by Tom Scriven.

His partnership with Josh Davey is up to 93!

    Absolutely bonkers!

Ben Stokes takes the last wicket - Yuzvendra Chahal slashing him to David Bedingham at first slip.

A stunning performance from Durham - that's what champions are made of.

Callum Parkinson superb for his 6-20 from 11 overs. Matt Potts barrel-chested brilliance saw him take 2-13 from seven.

Stokes' late entry to the party brought 2-9 from 26 balls.

Northants will wonder what on earth happened. They hit the first ball of their chase of 204 for 4.

Then lost 10-39. TEN FOR THIRTY NINE!

It's the sixth time they've been bowled out for 50 in first-class cricket.

It's their lowest first-class total against Durham.

The leaders take an eighth win in 11 as their march back to Division One continues.

    Worcestershire 199-4, target 380 v Kent

Worcestershire have battled well. They've only lost one wicket in adding 105 this morning.

Brett D'Oliveira continues to play a captain's innings - his half-century has been full of typical character and determination to get his side as close to saving the game as possible.

Young Henry Cullen has also played in a mature fashion as he offers sensible support.

Kent won't panic yet, but with Northant's impending doom against Durham, they know a win here could bring a big swing in the promotion race.

They still need six more wickets.

  18. Lunch at Bristolpublished at 12:35 BST 5 September

    Glos 237 & 268-3 v Derbyshire 278 - Glos lead by 227 runs

A serene morning for Glos batters Miles Hammond and James Bracey who have helped themselves to a century and half-century respectively against Derbyshire's muted bowling attack.

The hosts have added 119 runs in the morning session and built their lead up to 227 which they will feel probably isn't enough to declare so on we will go into the afternoon session.

For now, time for some lunch.

On and on this Leicestershire last-wicket stand goes.

Tom Scriven and Josh Davey have been batting for more than an hour and a half with their stand worth 78.

How crucial will this be in the Foxes' fight to avoid relegation?

How damaging will it be in Nottinghamshire's quest for the title?

  20. 100 runs

100 for Miles Hammondpublished at 12:27 BST 5 September

    Glos 237 & 266-3 v Derbyshire 278

Miles Hammond completes his century as Gloucestershire continue to build up their lead before lunch - it currently stands at 226.

    How many will they want?

I don't think we can use Northants' current effort as a yardstick in that department.

A fruitless morning session for Derbyshire.
