Have your say on South Africa v Australia

  1. Aus 270-4published at 77 overs

    Concerns for South Africa here.

The runs are flowing pretty quickly for Australia as Josh Inglis sweeps nicely for four, before the pitch misbehaves again and some extra bounce takes the ball from outside off and past the keeper for four more byes.

A bit of everything in that over!

There's the first sign of aggression towards Simon Harmer, as Josh Inglis skips down the pitch and lofts the ball beautifully over the leg side for six.

And Harmer responds with a beauty that fizzes past the off stump, beats everyone and trickles away for four byes. How did that miss!?

  3. Aus 250-4published at 75 overs

Alex Carey misses a reverse sweep this time, but he gets himself outside the line.

A tidy start from Markram, just one from it. After a quiet hour or so, will the new ball provide another twist in this intriguing contest?

Half an appeal first ball after drinks as Josh Inglis misses a reverse sweep, but otherwise Simon Harmer's over is negotiated pretty easily.

And now South Africa turn to Aiden Markram for a burst with six overs to go until the new ball is available.

Rabada looks either injured or just miles off it physically. Pace is not too bad, but the mental strength to bowl a disciplined line and length looks beyond him right now.

  6. Aus 246-4published at 73 overs

    Trail by 83

Josh Inglis rides the bounce nicely off Rabada and guides the ball off the outside edge for four more.

The drinks' break comes at a good time for South Africa and Rabada, who looks particularly frustrated.

  7. Aus 239-4published at 72 overs

Feels like we're just going through the motions here, until the new ball is due.

Simon Harmer rattles through another over. Is it worth giving Aiden Markram a couple of overs?

  8. Aus 237-4published at 71 overs

And there is a glimpse of Kagiso Rabada's magic.

Josh Inglis plays all around a beautiful delivery which pitches on off stump and with good pace and bounce, zips past the inside edge. He looks frustrated but that should give him hope that there's still something out there for him to exploit.

  9. Aus 236-4published at 70 overs

Alex Carey edges past gully for a slightly streaky boundary, which brings up the 50 partnership between these two.

They've absorbed the pressure brilliantly since Marco Jansen's double-strike before tea.

  10. Aus 231-4published at 69 overs

    Trail by 98

    Oh, nearly!

Josh Inglis cuts a wide delivery just over the fielder at point, evading a leaping Marques Ackerman.

Kagiso Rabada looks to the sky in frustration. Nothing's going his way and Australia's deficit is now below 100.

  11. Aus 228-4published at 68 overs

Mulder is a very handy cricketer for South Africa to have as their fourth seamer. He's holding up an end nicely, and that's back-to-back maidens.

Can South Africa make the most of the pressure they're building?

  12. Aus 228-4published at 67 overs

Rabada just hasn't quite been able to find his rhythm today, he's lacked that extra bit of zip that we're used to seeing from him.

Doesn't feel like he's targeted the stumps enough, either.

Temba Bavuma does make a change. Here's Kagiso Rabada.

  14. Aus 226-4published at 66 overs

Wiaan Mulder continues to plug away, targeting the stumps as usual, and Josh Inglis plays out a maiden.

For what feels like the first time today, there's a bit of a lull.

(Cue a hat-trick, or something equally ridiculous.)

  15. Aus 226-4published at 65 overs

Not much troubling Carey and Inglis out there. They're happy to tick things along against Harmer.

Does Temba Bavuma take a gamble and turn to Jansen or Rabada now, or keep them fully fresh for the new ball? It will be available in 15 overs' time.

  16. Aus 222-4published at 64 overs

Marco Jansen didn't come straight back out after tea, but he's out there now which is good news for South Africa. He saves one run by stopping a boundary with his foot.

The things you can get away with when you're ranked number one in the world...

A really excellent Test series. One all and a great tussle in number three.

  18. Aus 216-4published at 63 overs

These two are building a bit of confidence now. Simon Harmer overpitches and Carey hammers it to the long-on boundary.

  19. Aus 212-4published at 62 overs

Short, wide and punished by Alex Carey.

He's faced 43 balls and that was his first boundary, showing how disciplined South Africa have been to him.

  20. Aus 207-4published at 61 overs

Alex Carey reverse-sweeps nicely for a couple before Josh Inglis is beaten on the outside edge.

South Africa are containing things well at the moment.
