An absorbing day, it seems highly unlikely it’s going to go into a fourth day. We’ve seen some really interesting cricket.

WICKET AND CLOSE OF PLAY AT GRACE ROADpublished at 18:16 BST 15 September

    Green c Weatherley b Abbott 9 - Leicestershire 148-7 v Hampshire 214

Short from Kyle Abbott and Ben Green has pulled that to square leg in the final over of the day.

That's the close with five balls left in the over.

Leicestershire had been picking up a bit of momentum there.

That's a disappointing end to the day for the hosts, still 66 behind with Hamza Shaikh on 50 not out.

The 80 not out from Hampshire captain Ben Brown earlier in the day on a pitch offering bounce and movement is looking ever more valuable.

Unsurprising with franchises, Bazballs, and attention spans, but the current crop are all flat track bullies. As soon as the ball moves in the air or off the pitch, any bowler who can hold a line will feast. The best know how to profit from patience.

  5. Close of play at Chelmsfordpublished at 18:12 BST 15 September

    Essex 134 v Warwickshire 151-9

We don't quite get 20 wickets in the day - we'll just have to settle for 19.

Sam Hain saw out the final maiden over from Matt Critchley and will resume tomorrow on 58 not out alongside last man Olly Hannon-Dalby.

Brilliant entertainment with the wickets tumbling with both batting sides really struggling to score runs and build partnerships and it ends with Warwickshire's noses just in front, with a slender lead of 17.

  6. Postpublished at 18:12 BST 15 September

    Leicestershire 148-6 v Hampshire 214

A bit of luck for Ben Green, who is very close to pushing Scott Currie to Kyle Abbott at mid on.

    Single taken.

  7. wicket

WICKETpublished at 18:11 BST 15 September

    Dudgeon lbw b Bailey 0 (Kent 117-7 v Lancashire 161)

Another wicket for Lancashire and Tom Bailey has two in one over!

Keith Dudgeon is trapped in front for a three-ball duck and all of a sudden, Kent are in real danger of falling short of matching Lancashire's first innings score.

Bailey (3-29) joins his opening bowling partner Jimmy Anderson (3-25) on three wickets.

  8. Close of play at Bristolpublished at 18:11 BST 15 September

    Gloucestershire v Middlesex 324-9

Toby Roland-Jones and Danru Ferns safely negotiate the final over of play as Middlesex survive the opening day after a lower-order fightback at Bristol.

They lost both openers with only 15 on the board and despite 49 by Caleb Falconer, found themselves on 222-8 when Harry Duke and Zafar Gohar were both run out just before tea.

Since then bat as held sway over ball with Seb Morgan (38) adding 74 with Roland-Jones, who was 44 not out at the close, before being bowled by JT Langridge.

Matt Taylor, Sai Kishore and Langridge each took two wickets for Gloucestershire, who are seeking a third successive Championship win.

Scott Currie is leg side and Hamza Shaikh glances the ball away for 50.

He has been a run machine in the One-Day Cup, but this is his first championship 50 of the season.

    89 balls and seven fours.

  10. Postpublished at 18:09 BST 15 September

    Yorkshire 212 v Somerset 67-5

Craig Overton sees out the Ben Coad over with a safe push to mid off.

Three overs left tonight and Kuldeep Yadav will continue from the Howard Stand End.

James Rew drives from the crease but doesn't penetrate the off side field.

He squeezes a single pushing forward to square leg off a no ball.

  11. wicket

WICKETpublished at 18:07 BST 15 September

    Foreman c Jones b Bailey 1 (Kent 117-6 v Lancashire 161)

Bertie Foreman lures himself into dabbling one outside off stump from Tom Bailey and it's backfired.

He edges one to fourth slip and Michael Jones takes the catch.

Foreman goes for just one run from 16 balls.

In comes Keith Dudgeon for Kent.

  12. Postpublished at 18:06 BST 15 September

    Essex 134 v Warwickshire 151-9

The final over of the day coming up.

Will we see 20 wickets fall on day one or will the Bears cling on until morning?

    Critchley to bowl it.

  13. Postpublished at 18:05 BST 15 September

    Kent 117-5 v Lancashire 161

Every run helps Kent's cause in their quest for promotion and a wide that goes for four certainly does just that...

Mitch Stanley is the guilty party for Lancashire.

Bertie Foreman then gets off the mark with a single and Zak Crawley flicks off his legs for two to move to 49.

Kent are within 44 runs of Lancashire's first innings total.

  14. Postpublished at 18:05 BST 15 September

    Leicestershire 139-6 v Hampshire 214

Scott Currie replaces James Fuller in the Hampshire attack and Hamza Shaiks chips the first ball safely down to long off for four.

He gets a single off the next ball to move to 48.

  15. Close of play at Chester-le-Streetpublished at 18:04 BST 15 September

    Durham 437-7 v Worcestershire

A day of dominance with the bat for Division Two champions Durham as they collect four bonus points against Worcestershire.

Alex Lees marked his 100th first-class game with 40 at the top of the order but it was a stand of 105 between Mayank Agarwal and Ben Stokes which really made the Pears bowlers suffer.

Stokes fell for 50, but Agarwal hit a six and 31 fours in his superb 177, also adding 71 with Colin Ackermann and 149 with Ollie Robinson, despite 3-92 by left-armer Ben Gibbon.

Robinson is still there on 78 not out at the close and they will only need another 13 on the second morning to complete the full set of batting points.

WICKETpublished at 18:03 BST 15 September

    Bamber lbw Critchley 0 (Essex 134 v Warwickshire 151-9)

    Two wickets in the over!

Matt Critchley's spin is doing the business for Essex and he takes two wickets in four balls.

Ethan Bamber was brilliant with the ball in hand but can't get off the mark with the bat.

Those two wickets have changed the complexion of the game yet again - just as the Bears looked to be building a lead they are now nine down and only 17 in front.

  17. Postpublished at 18:03 BST 15 September

    Yorkshire 212 v Somerset 63-5

Indian left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav is in the attack.

The first ball is a drag down and smashed through mid-wicket by Craig Overton for four, his first runs - off his ninth ball.

A better length from Kuldeep this time and Overton defends down the ground.

A no ball follows - and Overton punches the last ball of the over through the off side for two.

    Double change.

Ben Coad comes on for George Hill from the Kirkstall Lane End.

    Sussex v Notts 205-8

Tom Price beats the outside edge of Tom Giles' bat but it's wickets Sussex really want to be dealing in at this stage.

Somerset and Warwickshire fans will want them to rattle through these last two quickly as well.

But Sussex need to break this partnership between Giles and Brett Hutton first. It's now worth 55 runs - the highest of the match so far.
