    Durham 252 v Middlesex 54-2

Lift, pace and bounce again from Brydon Carse and Nathan Fernandes is watchful, leaving that ball to pass him through to the keeper.

A play and a miss follows. Maiden over. Seven overs left tonight.

  2. Close at Derbypublished at 18:21 BST 8 September

    Derbys 300 v Kent 11-1

Remember Derbyshire capitulated to Ollie Price's occasional off-spin at Bristol last week, Price earning a career best 6-45 on day three.

Well it is only day one and already Kent's new Bertie is to the fore.

Foreman took 2-65 in 24 overs on day one, is that a good sign for Shoaib Bashir and Jack Morley to spin Derbyshire to win or a worry that Derbyshire may struggle even more in the second innings v Foreman as they did v Price last week?

Ther Bangladeshi quicks took seven between them too, making the most of overcast early conditions, but with less rain around the next few days, spin may be even more important.

Zak Crawley lasted the six overs along with that young, former Sussex off-spinner Foreman, who nightwatched very effectively for 19 balls frustrating Brett Randell and Ben Aitchison.

  3. Close of play at Headingleypublished at 18:20 BST 8 September

    Yorkshire 241-6 v Essex

A forward short leg comes in for Mitch Killeen - bowling to George Hill.

Two leg byes in the over.

Matt Critchley will bowl the last over of of the day.

Dom Bess drives the leg spinner to cover but there's no run.

He gets one off the next ball through backward point that could've been four but for a diving stop.

One more fielder comes in - to leg slip and this is played on the bounce by Hill to silly point.

A topsy turvy match that began with an opening stand of 121 in murky conditions followed by the loss of five wickets inside nine overs for 18.

Matthew Revis (61) and Hill put on 94 after that point, but Essex have dragged a bit of momentum back with the wicket of Revis, LBW to Killeen.

Hill survives on 24 with Dom Bess on six.

  4. wicket

WICKETpublished at 18:20 BST 8 September

Leach lbw Patel 0 (Leicestershire v Somerset 344-8)

Jack Leach falls to his second ball, his first from Ajaz Patel with two slips in place.

Left-arm spinners never like getting out to fellow left-arm spinners, though he may be excited by a little turn so early.

This makes Lewis Gregory's knock more questionable if James Rew runs out of partners now with just the run shy Miggy Pretorius and Jake Ball to come.

Somerset's batting weakened with Ball for Lewis Goldsworthy beefing up the seamers for this one remember.

  5. wicket

WICKETpublished at 18:15 BST 8 September

    Young b Hamza 60 (Glamorgan 69 v Warks 129-3)

A disappointing dismissal for Will Young, who tries to chop the ball down to third man but only succeeds in dragging it into his stumps.

A bonus wicket for Mir Hamza and Glamorgan towards the end of what has been a very sobering day for them.

  6. wicket

WICKETpublished at 18:14 BST 8 September

    Gregory c Ahmed b Patel 27 (Leicestershire v Somerset 340-7)

    Reckless?

    Or a bonus quick 27?

He is the skipper so hard for any of his teammates to argue with his plan.

He is a quality ball-striker, but that sweep, the ball after the six, is top edged and taken behind square on the legside.

Loads more overs until the 110 over mark, or even the next new ball.

Hard to judge that innings until both sides have batted.

Jack Leach could have been in at nine, or like the old days when he used to be a nightwatcher, either way there are six overs to come on day one.

  7. 'Nervous weeks' ahead for Glamorganpublished at 18:12 BST 8 September

    Glamorgan 69 v Warks 117-2

    Nick Webb
    BBC Radio Wales

Warwickshire cruised into the lead after Ethan Bamber’s dramatic exploits with the ball, though two wickets from off-spinner Ben Kellaway did slow down the Bears’ progress slightly.

Rob Yates clubbed and caressed a couple of straight fours in one Kellaway over before top-edging to fine leg, then Dan Mousley sliced to wide mid-off.

Kiwi opener Will Young, building his first score of his spell with the Bears, smashed a Kellaway delivery straight at short-leg Asa Tribe, who understandably left the field for medical checks.

While Warwickshire look towards the scores of their title rivals, it looks like being a nervous few weeks for Glamorgan who have not got anywhere near a batting point in the last month.

  8. Postpublished at 18:11 BST 8 September

    Leicestershire v Somerset 340-6

As Notts just closed their day one with 377 on the board, Somerset decide to attack and see if they can get to a higher score in far less overs than their title rivals managed not far away in another of the three East Midlands games in this round.

Lewis Gregory sweeps Ajaz Patel for four then uses his feet to deposit him into the stands.

    27 from 16 deliveries already.

Somerset do not want weather to stop them taking maximum points in this game.

  9. 150 runs

150 up for Glospublished at 18:11 BST 8 September

    Lancashire v Glos 157-6

Into the dying embers of day one at Old Trafford and Gloucestershire's score has ticked past 150.

India spinner Sai Kishore and Daz Ahmed have put on 38 so far for this seventh wicket, with no dismissals since the latest resumption.

  10. wicket

WICKETpublished at 18:11 BST 8 September

    Robson c Ackermann b Carse 26 - Durham 252 v Middlesex 51-2

Ben Raine strays down the leg side and Nathan Fernandes nudges the ball away for four - taking Middlesex past 50 in 8.5 overs.

Fernandes subsequently plays and misses but survives the over.

The umpires are having a chat. Are they worriesdabout the light?

We're playing on. Here comes Brydon Carse, who has run in hard and generated genuine pace.

Edged by Sam Robson and taken by Colin Ackermann at third slip!

Max Holden is captaining Middlesex in the absence of Leus du Plooy - and he is coming in to bat.

  11. Close of play at Trent Bridgepublished at 18:10 BST 8 September

    Notts 377 v Hampshire 12-0

The end of a full day's play at Trent Bridge and a very entertaining one at that.

Hampshire's decision to bowl first looked correct given the green surface and even more so when Nottinghamshire slipped to 20-3.

But Joe Clarke produced another fine performance in scoring 106, well supported by New Zealander Mitch Hay, who made 49 on debut.

However, fireworks from Liam Patterson-White who hit 92 with the tail catapulted the total up to 377 for the title chasers and three batting points.

Kyle Abbott and Scott Currie both claimed four wickets and the openers have come through a tricky four overs unscathed, but the bottom side are up against at stumps and will need to produce their best performance of the season with the bat on day two.

  12. Postpublished at 18:08 BST 8 September

    Leicestershire v Somerset 329-6

James Rew's whippy wrists at their best as he hits Ben Mike for four to bring up his bowling gallon; 19.4 overs bowled, 2-103.

Off stump is leg stump for professional batters who bat on off to seamers, expecting not to miss it.

Rew putting the hammer down not batting for close here.

Slogging him for a third four of the over off the top edge straight after.

Somerset's scoring rate back above five for the day.

  13. 50 runs

for Will Youngpublished at 18:07 BST 8 September

    Glamorgan 69 v Warks 114-2

    Will YoungImage source, Getty Images

Will Young pushes Jamie McIlroy away for a single and reached his 50 from 94 balls. He's looking pretty solid too - which is bad news for Glamorgan.

Another eight overs scheduled before the close.

Get Involvedpublished at 18:07 BST 8 September

Surely, England have to look seriously at Liam Patterson-White? Scoring runs and holding down an end with his spin, should at least get a squad call up.

  15. Postpublished at 18:02 BST 8 September

    Notts 377 v Hampshire 9-0

A pleasing stroke from Nick Gubbins down past the vacant long-on gets him four runs, his first runs and the first boundary of the Hampshire innings.

    Two overs to go.

  16. wicket

WICKETpublished at 18:01 BST 8 September

    Revis LBW b Killeen 61 - Yorkshire 233-6 v Essex

Matthew Revis misses an attempted forward block off Mitch Killeen and is struck on the knee in front of off stump. Plumb.

A very valuable 94-run partnership even so and here comes Dom Bess to have a bat.

  17. wicket

WICKETpublished at 18:00 BST 8 September

    Cullen c Bartlett b Chahal 64 (Worcs 200 v Northants)

Henry Cullen slaps Calvin Harrison away for four and then picks up a single to keep the strike for the next over and bring up a 50 partnership for the 10th Worcestershire wicket.

He goes aerial from the first ball of the next over, bowled by Yuzi Chahal, and is well caught by George Bartlett right on the boundary edge.

Cullen hit two sixes and five fours in his 105-ball knock.

  18. Near run out of Robsonpublished at 18:00 BST 8 September

    Durham 252 v Middlesex 40-1

    Calamity at Chester-le-Street.

Nathan Fernandes defends and Sam Robson is two-thirds of the way down the ground to try and pinch a single.

Brydon Carse runs to the stumps and invertedly knocks the bails off with his hand.

Frustratingly, the return throw is good.

The ball deflects off the top of the stumps as Robson hurries back to make his ground - then runs away for four.

Robson could've been out for 20 there.

  19. wicket

WICKETpublished at 17:59 BST 8 September

    Compton c Bashir b Aitchison 4 (Derbys 300 v Kent 4-1)

Ben Aitchison gets the first breakthrough for Derbyshire yet again.

The ever impressive man gets one with a pretty average ball though, a very un Ben Compton way to get out, to arguably the worst ball of the first over.

Short, wide and cut straight to Shoaib Bashir at point.

Why Bashir is at point is a very good question with no obvious answer, but he takes it comfortably enough.

Fellow offie Bertie Foreman comes in as the nightwatcher.

  20. Not outpublished at 17:57 BST 8 September

    Leicestershire v Somerset 309-6

Wow, drama there, James Rew is fortunate, slash very skilful there.

He runs down to Ajaz Patel too early, the kiwi spinner fires it in at his legs, it hits Rew's inner thigh and rolls towards the stumps.

Rew's reactions are superbly quick from his years of playing squash, tennis and padel as well as cricket, and these save him, knocking the ball away from his stumps with the bat.

Could have been bowled or stumped, but is neither in the end.
