    Price c Hurst b Balderson 29 (Lancashire v Glos 45-3)

Two wickets in three balls for George Balderson!

The other settled batter, Ollie Price, is now heading indoors.

An excellent ball in the corridor and it does enough to get a feather.

  2. Postpublished at 14:02 BST 8 September

    Yorkshire 94-0 v Essex

Was that an edge? No. Sharp movement away from the off stump by Jamie Porter and Will Luxton missed it.

Luxton gets a single off the third ball to cover.

Adam Lyth gets a two into the leg side and the return throw from fine leg knocks out one of the stumps after he makes his ground.

  3. wicket

WICKETpublished at 14:00 BST 8 September

    Phillips b Balderson 8 (Lancashire v Glos 44-2)

Joe Phillips has been tried and tested by Jimmy Anderson but it's George Balderson, who gets the reward.

Does it keep low? It feels like that on first viewing, but replays suggest not.

A fine ball which gets past Phillips' defences and crashes into the stumps.

    Glamorgan 9-2 v Warks

Glamorgan are having their work cut out here to avoid further damage with Chris Woakes bowling a testing spell with the new ball.

His first three overs have yielded only a single - but unlike Ethan Bamber, he has yet to take a wicket.

  5. Postpublished at 13:58 BST 8 September

    Notts 137-4 v Hampshire

The inexperience of youth as Manny Lumsden sends down a no-ball, he then gives up a couple and from the extra seventh ball he drops a bit short.

Mitch Hay pulls it authoritatively to the boundary for his first four.

Eight off the over and a release of the pressure valve for the batters.

  6. Postpublished at 13:58 BST 8 September

    Derbys 115-4 v Kent

Early spin in the second session too.

Bertie Foreman got two overs in before lunch and gets a third before even 2pm.

Having only gone for two in the first two overs it seems fair enough but he did bowl a couple down the legside that he got away with.

It still seems good swing or seam conditions with greenery and overheads, but Kent maybe look to rotate their seamers around the young offie.

  7. Postpublished at 13:58 BST 8 September

    Yorkshire 91-0 v Essex

Will Luxton waits for a short ball from Mitch Killeen and punches it through cover off the back foot for four.

He's on 39. The fourth ball is whipped through mid-wicket for one. 40.

Jamie Porter is on for his second spell at the Kirkstall Lane End.

  8. rain stops play

Rain stops play at Chester-le-Streetpublished at 13:56 BST 8 September

    Durham 126-5 v Middlesex

The rain reaches the county of the prince bishops and the players are coming off.

Durham have added a useful 33 between Ollie Robinson and Colin Ackermann after the loss of captain Alex Lees shortly after lunch.

Not sure it will be a definitive stop, but a stop nonetheless.

  9. Postpublished at 13:54 BST 8 September

    Notts 129-4 v Hampshire

This feels like an important passage of play.

If Notts come through this, they will be well ahead of the game. And Hampshire, considering their batting woes all summer, know they simply can't let the home side get away.

Manny Lumsden is bat into the attack and the teenager has to be careful as his first three overs went for 36 before lunch.

Once again an exciting county championship, the life blood of the sport, will splutter to an end because, due to the tip and run stuff taking up the summer, the county game concludes in the autumn. Surely this is the wrong way round. Autumn is perfect for the Hundred.

The debate around the scheduling of the county season will probably run as long as The Mousetrap, Frank.

    Yorkshire 85-0 v Essex

Zaman Akhter bowls a beauty to Adam Lyth that cuts back and flies over the top of the stumps.

    A good leave nonetheless.

Lyth gets a single, nudged from the crease into the leg side and Will Luxton sees out the over.

  12. Postpublished at 13:50 BST 8 September

    Derbys 113-4 v Kent

    Isn't cricket a friendly sport!

Cameras pan to opposition bowlers Matt Parkinson and Zak Chappell having a lovely looking chat on the balcony.

Both have not been selected for this game, the former out of favour for these conditions for a Bangladeshi overseas seamer and Chappell is unfortunately still struggling with the injury that has kept him out of the Championship six-match block resumption so far.

Rather different to Roy Keane v Patrick Viera mid-match or even Mitch Johnson/Michael Clarke to Jonathan Trott/Jimmy Anderson!

  13. Postpublished at 13:49 BST 8 September

    Yorkshire 84-0 v Essex

Mitchell Killeen is into the attack, replacing Shane Snater.

The second ball is driven on the back foot and stopped at mid-off.

Four runs squirted past backward point via a thick outside edge from Will Luxton.

  14. Rain does not stop playpublished at 13:48 BST 8 September

    Lancashire v Glos 33-1

We have had rain falling at Old Trafford but the players are still on the field.

Think of the type of squally shower you may encounter on a link golf course.

Gloucestershire batters Joe Phillips and Ollie Price have done a good job in navigating the 30-odd minutes since lunch.

Jimmy Anderson has had his hands on his head with a few deliveries that have cut back and gone over the top, but crucially no wickets.

  15. Postpublished at 13:46 BST 8 September

    Leicestershire v Somerset 33-0

Not so miserly Mike in his fourth.

Another no-ball going for four leg byes slightly ruining his efforts (though leg byes not against the bowler of course) which saw consecutive maidens to Tom Lammonby before hand.

Not Lammonby facing the no ball this time though, after he was out then not out to two of them in the 90s last week!

A wide to boot, the relegation-threatened Leicestershire a bit loose with their extras in bowler-friendly conditions thus far.

  16. Postpublished at 13:45 BST 8 September

    Yorkshire 80-0 v Essex

The signs are rather ominous for Essex, who remember are without the bowling of Sam Cook, Simon Harmer and Charlie Bennett in this match.

Adam Lyth moves to 40, steering the ball from the crease to deep third for four.

    Frustration for Zaman Akhter.

Lyth is back and across to the fifth ball, which fizzes away just outside off stump.

  17. wicket

    Carlson b Bamber 0 (Glamorgan 3-2 v Warks)

    Ethan BamberImage source, PA Media

A milestone moment for Ethan Bamber as he picks up his 50th Championship wicket of the season.

Kiran Carlson drives loosely but the ball nips back between bat and pad and just clips the outside of leg stump.

Ollie Hannon-Dalby was the last Bears bowler to reach 50 wickets in 2024, the BBC's Clive Eakin helpfully informs us.

  18. Postpublished at 13:43 BST 8 September

    Leicestershire v Somerset 25-0

Beautifully driven down the ground by Tom Lammonby for four, a teaser that has Rehan Ahmed in the chase all the way until the last moment, Josh Thomas having to push for the third equally.

Not a great start from loanee Nathan Gilchrist who is currently permitted to play in this game but remember the ECB regulations for this competition stipulate that counties cannot loan to opponents of potential title challengers "for the final three games."

Gilchrist 4-0-21-0 so far conceding 21 of the 25 runs, Somerset may well be happy for this loan being allowed, undoing the miserly Ben Mike's hard work from t'other end.

    Notts 124-4 v Hampshire

A change in the Hampshire bowling sees Eddie Jack back into the attack.

He was a bit expensive this morning. Hamsphire can't really afford something similar out.
