  1. rain stops play

Rain stops play at Old Traffordpublished at 14:28 BST 8 September

    Lancashire v Glos 58-3

We have more rain this time - almost coming in sideways over the 'Party' Stand if you know Old Trafford.

This is enough to get the players running for cover.

A relief for batters James Bracey and Miles Hammond as they have been really tested by George Balderson and the pace and bounce of Mitch Stanley.

  2. Postpublished at 14:26 BST 8 September

    Notts 172-4 v Hampshire

This is a bit cruel. The Notts batters are really milking young Manny Lumsden, who is struggling with his radar.

His seven overs have gone for 66 and in the context of the game, that's massive.

  3. Latest from New Roadpublished at 14:26 BST 8 September

They are back out in the middle in Worcester and Jake Libby has just steered a ball from Ben Sanderson through backward point for four.

The home side are 61-2 in the 25th over following a delayed start and belated lunch interval, with Libby now 35 not out.

  4. 50 runs

50 for Adam Lythpublished at 14:24 BST 8 September

    Yorkshire 112-0 v Essex

Adam Lyth gets a short ball from Mitch Killeen, duly swivel-pulled through square leg for four. He's on 48.

The fifth ball is stroked through point for four more and that's his 50 off 88 balls with 10 fours.

This is his fifth score of 50 or more this season with a best effort this summer of 141, made in this ground against Surrey in May.

    Leicestershire v Somerset 82-0

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

    Thanks to my personal statistician.

This is the third consecutive 50-run opening partnership from these two.

    For the first time since...

Marcus Trescothick and Tom Abell back in 2015, 11 years ago.

  6. Postpublished at 14:20 BST 8 September

    Derbys 123-4 v Kent

Good batting from Luis Reece and Martin Andersson, without many frills, prompts Kent to turn back to their Italian Stallion Grant Stewart.

123 for four (/12344 in text speak) always deserves a shoutout and has to ignore rules on how it should be typed out for people following along around the world to have a minor chuckle.

    It's the little things.

    Tribe c Smith b Bamber 9 (Glamorgan 32-4 v Warks)

Asa Tribe takes a couple of steps down the pitch and clips Ethan Bamber through square leg for the first four of his innings.

It's his final scoring stroke, though, as he tries to drive the next one and edges through to the keeper.

Glamorgan are being well and truly Bamber-boozled at the moment.

  8. Postpublished at 14:18 BST 8 September

    Yorkshire 103-0 v Essex

Jamie Porter is nearly through Will Luxton with his second ball, possibly inside-edged into the thigh pad.

    Another maiden over.

  9. Yorkshire look for big scorepublished at 14:16 BST 8 September

    Yorkshire 103-0 v Essex

    Nick Gledhill
    BBC Essex commentator

Despite an 80-minute delay for intermittent light drizzle, Yorkshire’s openers did well enough in the opening session to justify batting first on the pitch used for the first Test against Pakistan.

It looked like it should have been a bowlers morning but the players were off the field when batting might have been at its most difficult.

Jamie Porter pitched the ball up, looking for movement, and came closest to a wicket when Adam Lyth edged low to Paul Walter’s right at first slip. Both Lyth and Will Luxton became more fluent as the cloud lifted before lunch.

Yorkshire’s game plan will be a big first innings score to allow attacking fields for their spinners. Essex, without both Sam Cook and Simon Harmer, need to ensure that Yorkshire don’t get away.

  10. Glamorgan top order in a 'mess'published at 14:15 BST 8 September

    Glamorgan 20-3 v Warwickshire

    Nick Webb
    BBC Radio Wales

Another fine mess Glamorgan have got themselves into in Cardiff - with Ethan Bamber claiming three early wickets after the hosts chose to bat.

Bamber moved past 50 Championship wickets in the process as the Bears looked like the title hopefuls they are in the early exchanges.

Debutant Jack Hope-Bell was bowled with the fourth ball of the innings, captain Kiran Carlson’s struggles continued as he saw his leg-bail removed and Ben Kellaway drove a wide ball to cover point.

The wicket is not particularly green and should be a good batting surface once the early moisture has gone.

  11. Postpublished at 14:14 BST 8 September

    Yorkshire 103-0 v Essex

A probing over from Mitch Killeen, attacking the stumps from a good length and Adam Lyth defends.

Maiden over. Jamie Porter bowls to Will Luxton - on 49.

    Notts 159-4 v Hampshire

A win for Notts as Hampshire throw the ball to spinner Felix Organ.

This partnership is now up to 61 between Joe Clarke and New Zealander Mitch Hay on his debut.

The alarm bells will start to ring for Hants skipper Ben Brown.

  13. Early spin at Grace Roadpublished at 14:13 BST 8 September

    Leicestershire v Somerset 71-0

With conditions seamer-friendly in September this seems a surprise, but like just up the M1 at Derby, spin comes into the attack inside the first session, and not just one over before the interval.

Mind you, no disrespect to young Bertie Foreman, but this is 10-test-wickets in an innings legend who will go down in the history of the highest level of our wondrous game, Ajaz Patel.

Having been with the side for months now, throughout the One-Day Cup, his teammates know him well and he is turned to for the 14th over, turning the ball into the two left-handers of course.

  14. Postpublished at 14:12 BST 8 September

    Glamorgan 19-3 v Warks

First boundary of the Glamorgan first innings as Colin Ingram drives past mid-off.

Ethan Bamber's next delivery is even fuller in length and Ingram is able to steer it square for back-to-back boundaries.

  15. Postpublished at 14:10 BST 8 September

    Yorkshire 103-0 v Essex

Adam Lyth plays Jamie Porter into the offside for one, bat close to pad.

The second ball jags in from back of a length and only just passes over off-stump with Will Luxton leaving the ball.

The fifth ball is driven and flies off an outside edge wide of the two slips for four.

That's the 100 partnership in 25 overs and Luxton is on 49.

  16. 50 runs

    50 partnershippublished at 14:06 BST 8 September

    Leicestershire v Somerset 58-0

Another 50 partnership from these two openers, arguably already the most successful homegrown opening pair for a prolonged period of a few weeks since Arul Suppiah and Marcus Trescothick.

That seems a wild statement, but after years of rotating Somerset openers, often having an overseas in there, it is light relief for Mr Abell and co to not have to run out and be the saviour at three-five as he so often has had to be since opening with Trescothick himself at the start of his professional career.

Alex Green, first change, of course extracts some extra bounce, but Josh Thomas gets away with a typically aggressive top-edged pull shot.

  17. Postpublished at 14:06 BST 8 September

    Yorkshire 98-0 v Essex

Will Luxton moves to 45, crunching a Mitch Killeen delivery through cover on the back foot for four.

Lovely flowing blade there. He sees out the over defending resolutely down the ground, pushing the ball into the stumps at the other end.

No deflection though and Adam Lyth is in his crease.

  18. 50 runs

50 for Joe Clarkepublished at 14:04 BST 8 September

    Notts 146-4 v Hampshire

    Joe ClarkeImage source, Shutterstock

    Joe Clarke's golden summer continues.

On a testing pitch, Clarke is doing an outstanding job for his side.

He has done the hard yards about Kyle Abbott and Scott Currie, so he is not going to miss out on a legside half-volley that Manny Lumsden sends down and those four take him to 51 not out.

    Kellaway c Jani b Bamber 3 (Glamorgan 9-3 v Warks)

Ethan Bamber tempts Ben Kellaway into driving at a wide one and he is gone, caught at point by Vansh Jani.

A poor shot and Glamorgan are now in deep trouble, with Warwickshire hungry for more after taking just seven overs to claim their first bowling point.

Bamber has 3-7 from his four overs so far with the new ball.
