Hasan Mahmud going for just one run off Martin Andersson as his figures read 2-16 off nine impressive overs.

  2. Postpublished at 13:17 BST 8 September

    Leicestershire v Somerset 9-0

Nathan Gilchrist may not have played with Josh Thomas at Kings College, Somerset or Leicestershire before today, but the controversial last-minute loan signing (signed on the very last day legal - 8 September) gifts Josh Thomas and Somerset nine runs from the opening over.

Four with a boundary off Thomas' blade, five in extras.

  3. Postpublished at 13:17 BST 8 September

    Worcs 41-2 v Northants

    Notts 108-4 v Hampshire

Scott Currie has the ball as he runs into the leading run-scorer in Division One, Joe Clarke.

He lunched on 29 not out and he plays and misses at a good one from Currie.

His wicket is the prized one for the Hants bowlers.

    Derbys 89-4 v Kent

Khaled Ahmed takes the first over of the afternoon session to Luis Reece.

  6. Glamorgan to bat against Bearspublished at 13:14 BST 8 September

    Glamorgan v Warwickshire

We are going to see some action at Sophia Gardens after the entire morning session was washed out.

Glamorgan skipper Kiran Carlson has opted to bat first after winning the toss and they give a first-class debut to 19-year-old Jack Hope-Bell, who hit a century against Sussex at Neath in the One-Day Cup in July.

Unsurprisingly, third-placed Warwickshire retain the Xi which dismantled Hampshire by an innings and 129 runs in the previous round.

    Play will begin shortly.

  7. Play at Grace Roadpublished at 13:12 BST 8 September

    Leicestershire v Somerset 0-0

Ben Mike and Alex Green join Nathan Gilchrist in coming in for the Foxes for Josh Davey, Tom Scriven and Ian Holland who apparently all got injured at Trent Bridge last Saturday.

Somerset saw the pitch and brought Jake Ball in for Lewis Goldsworthy, but will not get to bowl in these overcast conditions.

Nathan Gilchrist does to his old side, representing his fourth country, he has previous for doing well in a Kent shirt in September v Somerset, but today, on loan from Warwickshire takes the first ball against a man who was to young to be his teammate, Josh Thomas.

Thomas of course, as well as Lewis Goldsworthy did play on loan here last summer though.

  8. Play to resume at Old Traffordpublished at 13:08 BST 8 September

    Lancashire v Glos 11-1

The players are returning to the field at Old Trafford after lunch.

That brief shower has not delayed the restart and Gloucestershire batters Ollie Price and Joe Phillips are ready to go again.

We have a possible 73 more overs today.

  9. What are the substitute rules?published at 13:07 BST 8 September

This season has seen substitutes being used regularly in the County Championship for the first time.

Some have been highly contentious - others have hardly been noticed.

But what exactly are the rules covering the use of subs?

  10. Good session for Middlesexpublished at 13:01 BST 8 September

    Durham 80-4 v Middlesex - lunch

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

There were nine minutes to go to lunch when I noted the importance of Durham needing to reach the break without losing another wicket.

They were 76-2 at that point but by the time the players headed off for their sarnies, Durham were 80-4.

Indian batsman Mayank Agarwal couldn't get bat on ball and was finding the conditions really tough.

His frustration was there for all to see and he finally edged his 25th delivery, from Sebastian Morgan, to keeper Harry Duke. He still hadn't got a run!

Graham Clark, who returned to the side this week having been left out at Northants, then hit his first ball for four. But moments later he was caught in the slips on the same score.

It was a bad over from a Durham point of view and a great one for Middlesex and Morgan.

There's is quite a bit of green on the track and it's doing a bit. It was a good toss to win for the visitors.

  11. Somerset put in by Foxespublished at 12:58 BST 8 September

    Leics v Somerset

Leicestershire have won the toss and asked Division One leaders Somerset to bat first at Grace Road.

Stevie Eskinazi is leading the Foxes in the absence of injured skipper Ian Holland and Nathan Gilchirst makes his debut against one of his former sides.

Somerset have Jake Ball in their XI as an extra pace option, replacing all-rounder Lewis Goldsworthy.

    Lancashire v Gloucestershire 11-1

Worcestershire 20-2 v Northamptonshire - play still in progress after delayed start

  14. Division Two updatepublished at 12:48 BST 8 September

Worcestershire have lost their second wicket at New Road with Rehaan Edavalath bowled by Northants skipper Luke Procter for four. Excellent delivery which just did enough to beat his defensive bat and hit off stump.

Having been put in by the visitors, the Pears are 20-2 in the 11th over.

  15. Lunch at Leedspublished at 12:47 BST 8 September

    Yorkshire 50-0 v Essex

We had expected lunch at 12.50 here but they're off 10 minutes early.

A good effort from the Tykes in tough conditions.

Adam Lyth is unbeaten on 23 with Will Luxton on 18.

Just the one chance, albeit a very tough one at first slip when Lyth edged low to Paul Walter off Jamie Porter.

On early evidence, Naavya Sharma looks like one to watch. After a period of new batsman coming through, there now seem to be a few bowlers as well.

    Luke, Herts

Lots of Middlesex fans will no doubt be impressed by Naavya's progress this season.

The sun is beating down now at Old Trafford. We have just started the lunch break. No play until 1.10pm is crazy. We had one heavy shower at 11am until 11.15. No play for 2 hours is crazy. A terrible advert for cricket. We should be playing now.

    Paul, Northwich

Watching Hampshire's bowling at Trent Bridge reminds you of Graham Gooch's quote about NZ. It's like facing a World XI at one end and Ilford Second XI at the other.

    Nigel, Derby

For younger readers, the 'World XI' comment would be a reference to Sir Richard Hadlee - and he certainly knew a thing or three about bowling at Trent Bridge. #alltimegreat

  17. Postpublished at 12:41 BST 8 September

    Yorkshire 50-0 v Essex

Change of bowling at the Kirkstall Lane End. Zaman Akhter is on for Jamie Porter.

He's wide outside off stump and Adam Lyth leaves the ball.

A better line thereafter from Akhter and Lyth defends into the off side.

    Maiden over.

  18. Due to start at 1.10 at Grace Roadpublished at 12:39 BST 8 September

    Leicestershire v Somerset

If no further poor weather then play will start for the first session of the match as the other games resume their second session at 1.10pm.

  19. Postpublished at 12:37 BST 8 September

    Yorkshire 50-0 v Essex

Shane Snater gets a bit of lift outside the off stump but Will Luxton safely jabs the ball down into the off side.

A bit of width and Luxton drives a full ball with a flowing bat through cover for four runs.

Snater fields one off his bowling and shies at the stumps but Luxton is in his crease.

The sixth ball is driven via a thick inside edge to deep mid wicket for four - and that's a Yorkshire 50 in 12 overs.

  20. Latest from New Roadpublished at 12:35 BST 8 September

After losing Dan Lategan to the second ball of the match following a delayed start, Worcestershire are having to fight hard to avoid further damage against Northamptonshire.

They are 14-1 in the eighth over, with Jake Libby 10 not out and Rehaan Edavalath on four.
