When you're up against a good side, they're not going to give you too many loose balls so Ireland need to create a few of their own to put pressure on England.

  2. Ire 95-4published at 28 overs

Amy Hunter bottom hands a biff down the ground off Mady Villiers and the England spinner dives to her right but cannot quite get a hand on it.

The final ball of the over, Hunter has a bit of wild swish to one given a bit of air. Did Hunter edge that? UltraEdge says yes. However, Alice Capsey is unable to cling on to it.

That was a very tough chance, though.

  3. Ire 92-4published at 27 overs

    Dani Gibson bustles in.

Leah Paul and Amy Hunter play rather conservatively as they work the ball into the gaps.

Maddy Villiers is finding a huge amount of movement both in the air and off the pitch today. A combined 5.8° of drift and spin for the off-spinner, compared to 3.0° for Dean and 3.3° for Corteen-Coleman.

  5. Ire 89-4published at 26 overs

The left-handed Leah Paul and Amy Hunter content to nudge Mady Villiers around for three singles. Project rebuild for Ireland now.

    Thanks, Sam.

Ireland are heavy reliant on their top order so a lot rests on the shoulders of Amy Hunter here.

Halfway through the innings and things are looking good for England. Ireland have struggled to really get going and now find themselves four down.

Left-hander Leah Paul is the new batter and is off the mark with a single.

It's time for us to make a change so here to see if Ireland can mount a recovery, is Timothy Abraham.

A bit of nothing shot from Rebecca Stokell.

Poor option from Rebecca Stokell. Not the best ball from Mady Villiers but a rush of blood to the head. A sharp but straightforward chance for Dani Gibson.

  10. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 24 overs

    Stokell c Gibson b Villiers 3 (Ire 83-4)

    Mady Villiers has a second!

Full, flighted delivery from the off-spinner and Rebecca Stokell takes the bait.

The Ireland right-hander had shown attacking intent in her short innings, tries to hit up and over extra cover but manages only to pick out Dani Gibson.

Excellent start from Villiers and Ireland are in a bit of trouble now.

  11. Eng 80-3published at 23 overs

Rebecca Stokell is off the mark with a well-timed flick over mid-wicket. Only just over the leaping fielder but once it gets past, it looks a certain boundary.

But the outfield has been pretty slow in Derby and the ball is flicked back and Stokell has to settle for two.

Stokell tries to pull Gibson's last delivery but miscues it and is fortune that the ball falls short of the mid-on fielder.

  12. Eng 77-3published at 22 overs

A wicket-taking over to start for Mady Villiers and, in fact, it is a wicket maiden for the off-spinner.

The only runs off the over were byes as the first ball spun and stayed very low to nut meg wicketkeeper Alice Capsey.

That sounded so good off the bat and it looked to have good trajectory. I am surprised she took that option, though.

Maybe the pressure from the other end - Amy Hunter keeping her boxed in and not rotating the strike - affected her. Possibly a traditional sweep would have been the sensible thing to do on this pitch.

England have the breakthrough they needed and the dangerous player.

  14. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 21.4 overs

    Prendergast c Kemp b Villiers 25 (Ire 77-3)

Orla Prendergast tries to get things moving... but picks out the fielder in the deep!

Mady Villiers strikes in her first over and Prendergast, having seen a couple turn sharply, goes with the spin and attempts to clear deep mid-wicket.

The batter times it well but just didn't quite have the power and Freya Kemp takes the catch just inside the rope.

Both these Ireland batters going at strike rate of over 50 and they will not be pleased with that but it's what the situation dictates.

They know their depth and know what they need to score. Orla Prendergast will want to deal in boundaries but England are bowling well.

  16. Ire 75-2published at 21 overs

The innings continues to meander along with three singles from Dani Gibson's over.

The partnership between Amy Hunter and Orla Prendergast is now up to 43, they'll be pleased with that but the run-rate is going to have to increase quite significantly if Ireland are to set a total to challenge England.

It's always difficult for someone like Orla Prendergast - like Hayley Matthews for West Indies to some extent - that if she doesn't get the runs then who will.

  18. Ire 72-2published at 20 overs

Good ball to finish from Charlie Dean, gets it to skid on and beat Amy Hunter's outside edge.

Four singles from the over. England are content to offer plenty of easy singles to Ireland at the moment.

    Katherine Sciver-Brunt
Ex-England bowler on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

Orla Prendergast needs to step into the Gaby Lewis role and bat for 30 overs. The way she shapes up you can tell she looks comfortable but it's having that mind game of whether she should go, ramp or whatever.

  20. Ire 68-2published at 19 overs

Dani Gibson is into the attack and after starting with three dot balls, the fourth is swung away for four by Orla Prendergast.

The Ireland number four shuffles down the pitch and hits past mid-on. The ball went at a catching height but was wide enough of the fielder not to concern the batter.

Prendergast drives crisply to end the over but can't beat the fielder this time.
